Cal reportedly targets Allen Brown as its second defensive backs coach
The California Golden Bears appear to have two defensive back coaches again.
After the loss of Tre Watson to TCU, Justin Wilcox has moved to find its newest Cal assistant coach. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reports that Cal has moved quickly to find its new defensive backs coach, and it will be a familiar face on the sidelines. Allen Brown, who was just hired as the next cornerbacks coach at Colorado State, is ready to come back to Cal.
Brown was a defensive quality control coach with the Bears in 2022, was an analyst with Florida in 2023, and then became cornerbacks coach in Washington State in 2024, where he helped coach up Ethan O’Connor, who then ended up at Miami. Prior to that, Brown was the Eastern Washington cornerbacks coach / defensive pass game coordinator from 2019 to 2021.
Brown would join cornerbacks coach Terrence Brown, as the Bears seem like they would keep their two secondary coach structure intact.
Why TF do we need 2 DB coaches when Wilcox played the damn position?
Idiotic.
Ok, DB coaches are not like potato chips. It is possible to stop at just one.
Has any thought been given to having a Special Teams Coach instead?
