Cal tight end Jake Tonges announces he will enter the NFL Draft
A minor change in plans for Tonges and we wish him luck all the same!
Tight end Jake Tonges took to Twitter to thank the Cal Football coaches and players (as well as his family) and declare his entry into the 2022 NFL Draft.
Starting his career as a walk-on who redshirted during Justin Wilcox’s first year in 2017, Tonges developed into a useful weapon for the offense. He played in all 41 games over the past four seasons with 23 starts—including being our starting tight end in 11 of our games this year. He netted 44 catches for 563 yards and four touchdowns, but his career highlight just might be a 60-yard juke-and-score at Ole Miss in 2019.
Curiously, this announcement comes less than a month after Tonges declared he had entered the transfer portal to explore finishing up his collegiate eligibility at a different school.
Jake, we thank you for your years of hard work in the blue and gold and wish you the best of luck in the Draft and in the NFL! May you be a valuable pick-up in my future All-Cal fantasy teams.
