Well, with this delay until 2021 we will have a more experienced team. I do wonder, though, if we do play in Winter/Spring if we will still play in the Fall of 2021.
I do like this full-throated support of the student athletes from all the guys at top. I mean words are wind and all, but instead of cautious optimism for the fans both are erring on the side of caution for the students.
One thing that we will likely have next spring is probably some data from schools that attempt to play football this fall. We may learn how easy it is for the disease to spread within a team and to an opposing team through a game.
We'll find out. If they can complete the season, then we'll play in spring. If they run into problems this fall, then we have successfully avoided them. I hope we'll have a season though.
Having played the game, and knowing what the COVID stats are for healthy young college age men, I would say that a Spring season should not be a problem. As long as the season ends 90 days before the Fall 2021 season starts, it shouldn't be a problem except for a few guys who will be out with injuries, that normally would have time to rehab and play the following season. They don't hit half as much in practice these days as when I played (no more three a days, and rarely full pads for two a days) and coaches and trainers do a great job, with two byes, of keeping kids healthy. I know some will say we can't do it, but ask the players. I think every kid that has pro dreams (which is all of them) would play in Spring and Fall (if they don't go to the NFL at the end of the Spring season).
Good perspective! Even with the reduced contact you point out in the college game, I believe the NFL has even less physical contact for their practices. Perhaps schools have the room to adopt an even lighter approach to physical contact to keep student-athletes safe
I'm saying that they would have been gone after fall 2020 if we played football, and we would be playing with younger guys in 2021 anyway. So they weren't going to be playing in 2021 anyway, why worry about losing them? Covid or not, they would not have been here in 2021, so nothing to worry about it.

Yes, but I wonder if the ACC, Big 12 and SEC are just delaying the inevitable. My bet is they end up canceling their seasons, too, next month.

Those guys would have been gone by spring 2021 anyway so I don't think it matters.

By younger guys, I meant guys that are not 6th or 7th year players that you are so worried about losing.
