Meanwhile, Wilcox and Cal couldn’t even hit a game winning FG within 36 yards.

SMU is deserving of a spot in the playoff. ASU a bye, along with Boise St.

Expand full comment

Agreed but that isn’t going to happen.

Expand full comment

An SMU vs. Texas showdown in Austin would be pretty amazing. Hope it goes the way the SN projects.

Bad Wilcox juju must have rubbed off on Rhett Ashlee at the postgame handshake last week…that was a vintage Cal gag.

Expand full comment

Not sure Cal can claim credit for this fiasco; it is Dabo we are dealing with after all.

Expand full comment

Holy Dabo Batman! Clemson wins on a walk off 56 yard FG.

Deathly afraid 2 loss SMU will be cheated out of a playoff berth in favor of 3 conference loss Alabama.

Expand full comment

Yep, I feel like SMU really needed this game to go to OT and lose on like a 3OT 2 point play to stay in the playoffs.

Expand full comment

Why aren’t you squibbing the kickoff there? Stupid.

Expand full comment

Or just kicking it for a touch back. The kickoff coverage team was just jogging down the field.

Expand full comment

I mean, is there any chance that they won’t be? Seriously? Alabama’s not getting left out.

The head of the committee already intimated that Alabama would not fall past 11.

Expand full comment

Yeah, only way Bama misses the playoffs is if they have 4 or more losses.

Expand full comment

Exactly.

And what sucks is that this isn’t even a Saban team…it’s DeBoer, who lost twice to 6-6 teams. This is a blah Alabama squad.

Expand full comment

What's worse, we can fill the at large without any 3 loss teams. No way I put in a 3 loss team, especially a 3 regular season loss one, unless its necessary to fill the bracket. Go enjoy the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Absolutely, AP.

Regardless of whether Oregon pulls this out or not, Dan Lanning's poor clock and game management in big games will be a hot topic of discussion. Again.

Expand full comment

Not a problem. Ducks have beaten Boise St, Ohio St, & Penn St, all of whom are in the CFP.

Penn State line wearing them down

Expand full comment

Hmm. SMU’s exposure to us may have impacted them for the worse.

Expand full comment

I was skeptical of SMU heading into this game, given how pedestrian they actually looked last Saturday.

They look a Justin Wilcox coached team tonight.

Expand full comment

Well, I didn't happen. Diploma mill Oregon has way more talent. Go "PAC 12" teams.

Expand full comment

Quack!

Expand full comment

I really don’t care about Tosh anymore. Fail, succeed, or retire. He has no impact on Cal.

Expand full comment

Justin Wilcox has done considerably more damage to the Cal Football program and overall brand the last decade than Tosh Lupoi has.

Expand full comment

Tosh spreads his contributions all around the region.

Expand full comment

It is still early, but if Oregon does manage to botch this up, its looking like we will be talking about Tosh. Yet again. Some things don't seem to change much over time!

Watching SEC QB and PK play is...depressing.

Sark comes up short in a big game...again.

Expand full comment

Fortunately, so does Franklin.

Texas leads Georgia 6-3 at halftime. Nothing against good defense, but the SEC is not delivering a good entertainment product relative to anything seen so far this weekend.

What time is the Pac 2 championship game?

Expand full comment

Was that Cal-OSU game?

Expand full comment

They might hold one in 2026. TBD.

Expand full comment

Already happened, OSU upset WSU.

Expand full comment

OSU made it to the final? Wow.

Expand full comment

With ASU winning and going to the CFP, it shows how strong legacy p12 was. And we aren't even talking about USC and WA this year, perineal powerhouses not even in the mix this year. If OR wins tonight, 2 of 4 legacy p12 teams win 2 of 4 P4 conference championships. Quite a statement.

Expand full comment

If SMU wins tonight, ASU should not get a bye (would mean jumping Boise St, which would be ridiculous), but they SHOULD get a home game. Very seriously doubt that will happen.

Expand full comment

Agreed

Expand full comment

I forgot that DeCarlos Brooks was at ASU.

Expand full comment

Looking at ASU winning today just proves how terrible of a coach Wilcox is, Dillingham probably wins 9 games with Mendoza, Ott and Cals roster.

Expand full comment

Only if he gets a dramatically different group of o-linemen in the portal.

Expand full comment

Doubtful, I bet the combination of Dillinghams play calling and hiring a dedicated OL coach results in better OL play than what we got this season.

Expand full comment

He gets there easily.

Dillingham is a leader. Wilcox is no such thing.

Expand full comment

This Cal roster with Dillignham probably has 9 regular season wins as their floor.

Expand full comment

You could tell when Dillingham was OC at Oregon that he had a dynamic offensive mind. He almost single-handedly beat Wilcox through game plan alone last year despite a roster that was totally outmanned.

His teams are well coached and execute a game plan, regardless of talent or personnel. Cal does neither.

Expand full comment

Dillingham would beat Wilcox by 17 this season at Memorial and probably by 24 in Tempe.

Expand full comment

We should fire Wilcox and hire oregons current OC. It worked out well for us once and it is currently working out well for ASU.

Loved the Dillingham hire.

Expand full comment

It’s unfortunately quite simple.

Arizona State moved on from their disaster of a Head Coach.

We extended ours.

That’s the difference.

Way too many Cal fans still don’t understand how weak of a leader Justin Wilcox is and how poor a job he has done.

Expand full comment

At this point I look at Wilcox as a good guy who is in over his head and who should have been let go years ago. Knowlton is the main culprit in the dilemma we are facing. The extension given to Wilcox was absolutely unconscionable to the point where I genuinely believe it warrants an investigation. Some laughable rumors about Wilcox bring offered the Oregon job and he gets an extension and a raise? Now the donors don’t want to buy out Wilcox because they don’t want Knowlton making the next hire??? In other words he gets to keep his job partly because of the terrible extension he gave out in the first place? If this were any other field this whole thing would be looked at as a potential conflict of interest at best and collusion at worst.

Expand full comment

I didn’t mind giving Wilcox an extension at the time but it should have been for 2 more years and in no way should it have been fully guaranteed.

ASU up 31-10 in the 3rd. If they hold on cal might have wiggle room for a better bowl.

Looks like they might hold on. Now 45-10.
