Coach Ron Rivera announced that he was diagnosed with cancer. He addressed his team, the Washington Football Team, and spoke to ESPN’s Adam Schefter regarding some details.
Washington Head Coach Ron Rivera tells me he has been diagnosed with lymph node cancer after a self check. Rivera shared the news with his team tonight but says the cancer is in the early stages and is considered “very treatable and curable”.
The 58-year-old Ron Rivera has consulted with a number of doctors and specialists and is establishing a treatment plan with the team and an outside specialist. For now, it’s business as usual for Washington but a “Plan B” is in place. https://t.co/7SsmnAfy2w

More Ron Rivera: “I’m planning to go on coaching. Doctors encouraged me to do it, too. They said, ‘If you feel strongly, do it. Don’t slow down, do your physical activities.’ But everyone keeps telling me by week three or four, you’ll start feeling it.”
Rivera played 3 years at Cal before being drafted in the second round of the 1984 draft. He played 12 years in the league, winning Superbowl XX as a player. As a Coach, Rivera was the Head Coach of the Carolina Panthers from 2011-2019 before being let go. He was hired as the Head Coach of the Washington Football Team on January 1st, 2020.
Get better soon Coach! The Cal family knows you can beat this!
The Bear does not quit. Bless you and your fight, Coach Rivera.
