'College GameDay' News: Ron Rivera NIL Pledges, Rece Davis Challenges Cal Fans, Aaron Rodgers & Pat McAfee Talk Berkeley Eats
Just a very normal week in the buildup to College Gameday in Berkeley.
The news is coming at a rapid-fire pace as we race toward Saturday at 6 am at College Gameday in Memorial Glade. Let’s give you some quick hits:
The Riveras pledge NIL donations, spread awareness
Cal head coach Ron Rivera has issued a simple challenge to Cal fans. Retweet him 1000 times, and Cal gets $10,000 from him and his wife Stephanie. With the matching total, that will raise $20,000 in NIL.
We are near 500 retweets so far on this tweet! Another 500+ and we get closer to the $1 million raised, $1 million match, $2 million goal set by the Collective.
Others have also been willing to do similar sort of engagement tasks for raising NIL money and awareness (you can see these Tweets here and here) by simply liking Tweets! It’s one of the easiest things you can do to give the Bears much needed donations.
As of this post, we’re at around $370k raised, which means a $370k match, and nearly three-quarters of a million dollars to support the Cal football program and build a great team long term. We can still do more as a community!

Rece Davis issued a challenge to Cal fans.
ESPN’s College Gameday host Rece Davis has always been fond of the Sturdy Golden Bears, and he issued a challenge to the Cal fanbase.
Davis was here when basketball’s College Gameday came to Haas Pavilion in 2009. He’s aware of the noise the Bears can bring!
And he has been hearing about the Calgorithm too!
Aaron Rodgers chats up La Burrita and Top Dog
Aaron Rodgers regularly goes on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday. There was a College Gameday in Berkeley segment, as Pat will be on set in Berkeley Saturday morning.
The full Twitter clip is available here. The full YouTube clip is available below.
La Burrita and Top Dog get the shout out, as Rodgers has historically done when talking about his Berkeley experience. Blondie’s also gets mentioned, and it isn’t quite gone—it’s just rebranded as Abe’s.
Hopefully Pat will get a chance to eat a Mendoza burrito at La Burrita! Learn more about Fernando Mendoza created the burrito to support MS awareness, in honor of his mom.
La Burrita launched a new menu item Monday in collaboration with Cal Football quarterback Fernando Mendoza in order to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis, or MS.
The Mendoza Burrito will be available until December at both La Burrita locations in Berkeley, with all proceeds from the promotion being donated to the National MS Society.
“Whether one person buys the burrito or 100 people buy the burrito, I’m really just happy that we’re able to spread MS awareness,” Mendoza said.
Mendoza’s mother was diagnosed with MS about ten years ago. As a member of a family affected by MS, Mendoza wanted to spread awareness about the disease and raise money for the cause.
Then there is a bit of a curveball into the Lacy and Scott Peterson case, which I think is best not to really discuss here.
The news keeps rolling in as we move toward Gameday.
Blondie’s / Abe’s was back to being Blondies last time I was on campus (during basketball season) also it’s really bad now - or maybe it was really bad this whole time and I’ve had a ton of much better pizza
