Blondie’s / Abe’s was back to being Blondies last time I was on campus (during basketball season) also it’s really bad now - or maybe it was really bad this whole time and I’ve had a ton of much better pizza
In the late 80's we all believed that if you ate Blondies every day your skin and hair would turn green. It was nasty stuff, but cheap, a bad combination for poor students. My go to then was the nice boiled bagel shop further down Telegraph. I'd get 6 bagels and cream cheese. On weekends it was all about Cheese Board! God that place has fallen apart since COVID. Such a tragedy. Service has gone downhill, fewer choices, much grumpier service. The shine is gone. Long live Cheese Board.
LFGB!

Is Cheese Board no longer popular?
Still very popular, but it's expensive and hard to get to from South Side.
Fat Slice was my go to when I lived in South Side, but that's been gone for a little while I believe
RIP Fat Slice
To me Cheese Board is an after graduation type of place. It seems kinda expensive for students.
My roommates and I would walk down there after parties and maybe a few libations and get a slice or two at 2 in the morning. Very energizing
I think it's the later :D. The pizza has always been alright - but mainly the speed you can get it and proximity to campus was the big selling point.
Super cheap and the coupons were convenient to both photocopy and Photoshop.
Especially in the late 80s when it was, what, $2 a slice? Cheap and fast but not great, yeah that works.
still $1 slices in 86 IIRC
An extra quarter for pepperoni- and if that was too expensive, just add extra red pepper flakes!
Also oregano or Parmesan
So many memories! -87 alum here. That, Top Dog, Kip’s and Yogurt Park! Can wait for this weekend! Go Bears!
