College of San Mateo CC WR Transfer Mason Starling Commits to Cal
Big bodied WR with a good offer lists commits to Cal
Hailing from Seattle, Washington, the Bay Area local CC WR recruit commits to Cal after taking an OV. Despite having a 2* rating from 247, Mason holds offers from Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and Tennessee.
His 6’5”, 200 lbs frame would rank as the tallest WR on the roster.
Scouting report via SGBear:
Mason Starling was a 3-star class of ’18 WR out of Rainier Beach High School in Washington who got an offer from Oregon State and 7 other lesser non-P5 programs. It appears he took a year off in 2019 and then played in ’20 and ’21 for CCSM, including becoming their top receiver. He committed early to FAU, but flipped to Cal.
I couldn’t find any tangible on him apart from his 6’4” height and 185 pound weight. However, he looks heavier than 185 pounds. On tape, he doesn’t look to have blazing speed, but speed can be deceiving on guys who are that tall. He certainly has athleticism, so he should be a classic Z or X receiver – the who is set out wide on an island where a throw will be far and requires a guy who can outjump the defender and stretch out to create a window large enough to throw into.
While Starling’s height will draw immediate comparisons to Trevon Clark and his production at CCSM speak for itself, I can’t say for sure whether he actually has Clark’s speed. I think the better comparison is Tommy Christakos – but with more aggressive hands. I think Starling will be an interesting tool in the receiver corp – one that can add value in outs, go routes, slants, and fades – especially in the red zone. Welcome to Cal, Mason.
Welcome to Cal!
Dang. These guys are committing faster than I can review their highlights.

That College of San Mateo QB sure looked good throwing to Mason. Is he committed anywhere?
