Our pass rush was iffy last year. Love to have more depth, more talent, more flexibility. Welcome to Berkeley!

Portal entry ends Jan 18.

Iffy is kind. It was poor, and stressed our DB’s, an actual strength, considerably…

In the pass happy P12, the D has to be able to generate pressure…while this kid’s pedigree is solid, he’s been hurt most of his time in Gainesville so it will be interesting to see what he actually brings. But any and all additions to the D-line are welcome!

Go Bears!

Maybe he and BRETT JOHNSON can be injured at different times?

That works well!!

Actually, a return to partial form by BJ, even on a limited snap count, would help immensely.

I feel like that could have been our offense more than our defense. When we blitzed, we weren't always effective but it looked better than worse IMHO. But I don't think we were able to put pressure often due to being on the field so much. I wonder how our pressure play call % matches up to other defenses.

I think you have to go back to the early Tedford years to find a Cal defense with a pass rush that offenses actually feared and had to game plan for. In Tedford's latter years, not so much. I will never forget that embarrassing home loss to Nevada in 2012 when Cody Fajardo, Nevada's quarterback, just lit up the the Cal defense with both his passing and running. The Cal D line looked absolutely gassed in the decisive fourth quarter. Hard to believe 63,000 fans were in the stands for Cal's home opener that day against a Mountain West team that finished the season with a .500 record.

2008 team was the best that I have watched.

Linebackers Zack Follet, Worrell Williams, Anthony Felder and Mike Mohamed (off bench) all pressured QB. DL consisted of Derrick Hill, Tyson Alualu, Cam Jordan and Rulon Davis.

Syd'quan Thompson and Darian Hagan both had their best year. Team had 24 Ints and 35 sacks.

Wow, great to see some good additions lately on both sides of the ball. Keanu Williams from Oregon entered portal today, would be a great addition to DL if we can pick him up.

Good. Obviously some dudes are being very active (and proactive) with regard to talent appearing in the portal. Seems so far, ceteris paribus, that things for Cal are balancing out with regard to inflow and outflow of talent.

Lack of quality depth has been an issue at Cal since at least the early 1970s. NIL hasn't changed that unfortunately. The Top Teams do a lot of things that Cal struggles with, year in and year out. Just the way it is. We have Top 5 Chemistry, Physics, Swimming, History Programs.. Football? Basketball? These are the Little Sisters of the Poor at Cal.

I'm pretty sure UCSD had a better water polo team than most non-CA universities even before they were D1.
