Bacon’s Rebellion was an armed rebellion held by Virginia settlers from 1676 to the following year. It was led by Nathaniel Bacon against Governor William Berkeley. It was the first armed rebellion in the North American colonies. I also learned that some loyalist troops got stoned on Jimsonweed while battling Bacon’s forces.
Rain in DC this morning so I deferred my run until this afternoon. I've become such a wuss in my old age that I waited even though the rain amounted to a big five-hundredths of an inch. Glad I waited though as I went around an island in the Potomac I sometimes run and around sunset saw a bunch of deer and the turkeys roosting up in the trees.
According to a book by Michael Schmidt, Donald Trump wanted to nuke North Korea and then literally blame it on a third country. John Kelly had to convince him it was a bad idea and pandered to his narcissism by convincing him that the public would see him as a great salesman if he could negotiate with North Korea rather than nuke them.
This article has some proposed stadium details. Without looking at the Oakland proposed stadium pictures, the Portland one looks very similar to the Oakland one as I remember.
In the article it is mentioned that the new franchise fee for a could be as high as 2+ billion. However, a relocating team doesn't need to pay it. I think Fisher wants to move the team to Vegas. Some other team would probably have to move to Portland. Not sure what other team is looking to move.
There’s going to be no shortage of jokes about the Vikings this week. Their fraudulent path to the No. 3 seed was a road littered with near-losses to mediocre teams. The play inside the Giants game was uninspired, boring, and failed in key places at the worst possible times. Even their future is looking kind of bleak. Minnesota is projected to be well above the salary cap, and without much draft capital to get younger — or better in the process.
At the center of this is Kirkland Cousins — which I’ve decided is now his name because he’s a Costco brand franchise quarterback. I know that sounds like slander, but it’s really not. I have great admiration for Costco items. They are absolutely functional facsimiles of high end products. They will get the basic job done for you — but nobody is going to be spreading the word about the Kirkland charcuterie platter you brought to the box social.
"My goodness does the man have more than an even share of people willing to defend his play to the death. I’m convinced there are more people who would take up sword to extol Kirkland’s virtues, comparing him to Joe Montana — than the reality that he’s Derek Carr without the eyeliner."
The Cowboys dominated to the point where I should be worried about the matchup next week. And yet . . . I think the Bucs were pretty bad and probably worse than the Seahawks, so it's not that surprising they got blown out.
I'm not sure I'd worry if I were a 9ers fan. The parts of the game I saw, Bucs couldn't/didn't run much so Brady had to throw and isn't a threat to run. 9ers can run the ball so I think the Cowboys can't pin their ears back and rush the QB like they could against the Bucs. Bucs just have to hope it doesn't come down to a FG to win it.
Brady looked so old. At the end of the game the announcers said that there were 3 teams interesting in picking him up if he comes back. Did they watch him play?
Pro Bears Bryan Anger (Dallas) and Marvin Jones Jr. (Jacksonville) are on active rosters of NFL teams that were victorious in NFL Super Wild Card Weekend games and have moved on to the Divisional Round next Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 21-22.
Anger and the NFC's fifth-seeded Cowboys closed out the Super Wild Card round with a 31-14 victory at No. 4 NFC seed Tampa Bay on Monday, while Jones and the AFC's fourth-seeded Jaguars came up with the fifth-largest comeback victory in NFL Playoff history on Saturday when they rallied from a 27-0 deficit to defeat the visiting No. 5 AFC seed Los Angeles Chargers, 31-30. Anger punted four times for 189 yards (47.3 avg, 38.8 net), had one punt inside the 20 and a long of 52, while Jones had three receptions for 29 yards including a six-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter during the comeback.
BERKELEY – The California men's basketball team is back in Haas Pavilion this week to host the Oregon schools, starting with a clash against the Ducks at 7 p.m. PST on Wednesday night.
Cal (3-15, 2-5 Pac-12) will look to continue its recent success at home, where it went 3-1 during a four-game homestand from Dec. 21-Jan. 6 before being swept on the road by Washington State and Washington this past week. Oregon (10-8, 4-3) has won three of its past five since resuming Pac-12 play and most recently knocked off No. 9 Arizona 87-68 in Eugene on Jan. 14. The Ducks are 1-2 in just three true road games at this point in the season.
The Cal men's water polo team placed nine student-athletes on the 2022 MPSF All-Academic Team, including a fourth consecutive nod for Marko Valecic.
Nikolaos Papanikolaou, Adrian Weinberg, Warren Loth and Jake Stone each earned a third All-Academic accolade, and Garrett Dunn received the honor for the second time.
Max Casabella, Roberto Valera and Jordi Gascon each garnered All-Academic recognition for the first time.
BERKELEY – The California men's tennis team makes its 2023 home dual-match debut when the Golden Bears (0-1) host Saint Mary's (0-1) on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. and then host 12th-ranked Stanford (1-0) in the Big Slam on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
Admission is free for regular-season home tennis at Hellman. Fans can watch home matches through the Hellman live stream by clicking here and can also keep track of the Bears on the team's Twitter @CalMensTennis.
I'm sure its a lot of work activating scholarships, enrolling each student-athlete, or athlete-student now, getting housing arranged, academic support, and all that with multiple departures and additions. Whose job is this???
The Bears figure to be better than last season, but it probably won’t result in any more W’s, unfortunately. Schedule got tougher and the other P12 teams are getting better quicker.

Why would MLB expand? If anything I think a current team like the A’s simply relocate to Portland.
In the article it is mentioned that the new franchise fee for a could be as high as 2+ billion. However, a relocating team doesn't need to pay it. I think Fisher wants to move the team to Vegas. Some other team would probably have to move to Portland. Not sure what other team is looking to move.

What is crazy is he is basically their e tire offense. They have no running game at all
That was part of the problem. I think Brady got rattled and started making mistakes. Still the GOAT and some think he’d be a good fit with Niners.

Not bad, except that half the conference is above them.
And we haven’t gotten any OL via the portal.
Literally the only position on the entire team where improvement was essential for success, and Wilcox actually got worse, if that’s even possible.
Ott, Jackson, Cardwell, the TN guy with 3-names, Hightower…none of it matters if they can’t block. 2 TE’s are not the missing pieces for the OL.
The Bears figure to be better than last season, but it probably won’t result in any more W’s, unfortunately. Schedule got tougher and the other P12 teams are getting better quicker.
