Culinary Class Wars season 2. I can't wait to find time to watch this show. It's a show that is in Korean with subtitles so it's something that I need to concentrate and watch. I'm sure there probably is dubbing in English but that isn't the same.

Similar to when Iron Chef Japan first was shown in the Bay Area on channel 26 around 96. It was first only in Japanese without English subtitles. It was fun to try to figure out what was going on. Then they added dubbing and then subtitles.

Starting in Japanese and moving to American--that's how they hooked me and others on Ninja Warriors.

Oh I remember Ninja Warriors. Those were awesome. The guys I remember were the old Octopus guy (he was like 85), the GOAT which was the fisherman, the firefighter, the gas station guy.

The Pitt - (18/19 HBO). Cross of ER and 24, which I've said in the past. I'm now 3-4 episodes in and it's nonstop action and very good.

Pantheon, Netflix. Artificial/Uploaded Intelligence, in the near future when the Singularity has been passed. From the point of view of teen angst. First episode was sluggish, but second one has picked up speed.

sort of politics.

had breakfast w/ someone i work with this morning at Jean-Georges restaurant. a normal 2 egg breakfast + bacon cost $52 -- so you get an idea of who i was with.

he said he was considering moving out of the city for a few years w/ Mamdani being elected. he also said that even though they would keep the place in NYC they would probably move "the art" somewhere safer in case law and order totally break down.

he also voiced that if elections are suspended then maybe socialist rule in NYC is here to stay. i got the impression that suspended elections would coincide w/ no federal elections either and Trump and cohort staying in power, which he was equally worried about.

heyalumnigo's avatar

And then he'll have the pikachu shocked face when none of those things actually happen in NYC.

FiatSlug's avatar

Damn, that sounds knee jerk reactionary. It also sounds like total capitulation to whatever with a side of anxiety to go. (don't you hate restaurant analogies?)

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

indeed. there was some narrative around NYC will become this lawless place where people will just enter doorman buildings and steal art from rich people's homes. and the real life analogy was that in certain liberal states they dont stop or prosecute shoplifting anymore.

as much as people are worried about a socialist unravelling, the Fascist unravelling is much closer to a reality. i suppose the fears are stoked by these sorts of socialist unravelling scenarios.

Reminds me of a 20 something kid I was working with when Obama got elected. He said that he was going to hide his guns because the govt was going to come take them. He was from Texas that was going to University of Louisville.

A coworker and I were going to go up to him on Jan 20 and demand his guns.

@Shockingly@, nothing happened to his guns.

I'm in favor of a conspiracy theory, such as, General AI has arrived and is stoking fear and anxiety as a means of controlling all humans.

FiatSlug's avatar

It really wouldn't surprise me if there's at least a kernel of truth to that. I'm immensely distrustful of the Tech Oligarchs. Mostly because they've all turned out to be dystopian f***wits.

I haven't seen this in the news for a while, but I wonder if a lot of them are still hoping/planning to upload their brains into computer hardware.

I have been aware of that idea for a number of years now. And while I can imagine many people would want to pursue immortality in any way possible, I can't think of anything more wrong-headed and depressing than that kind of future. I also think physical and mental immortality is functionally unattainable.

I believe that people who pursue this kind of immortality are deluding themselves about not only the timeline, but what is achievable. I don't want to be an android.

And yet, I feel that those who pursue immortality in this way are making decisions based on the idea that they are like some sort of Prometheus. There is nothing more arrogant than that.

I'm OK with Andruw Jones getting voted in. He always (for the most part) was a great CF defender and had maybe a 6-7 year stretch where he was a very good hitter.

Carlos Beltran can get shot to the sun. He was an architect of the Assterisks cheating scandal in 2017.

Sharks score first but then give up 4 straight and lose to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-1.

Jonathan Kuminga’s return can’t lift Warriors to win over Raptors

https://www.goldenstateofmind.com/warriors-scores-results/107548/jonathan-kumingas-return-cant-lift-warriors-to-win-over-raptors

After 16 consecutive DNP-CDs, Jonathan Kuminga returned to the court Tuesday night and put up 20 points. The out-of-favor Buddy Hield made all six of his three-pointers on his way to 25 points. But the Golden State Warriors starters didn’t play any defense and the Toronto Raptors shot 21-for-34 on three-pointers in a 145-127 win.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

they were down 20+ pts early and never really made a game of it

heyalumnigo's avatar

I was at the gym, checked the score at around 7:25 and saw they were already gave up 25 points in the first 6 min and were down something like 25-9. Glad I didn't stick around to watch the game.

MoriBear's avatar

I watched last chunk of Q3 and most of Q4. Down 30; got within 9. Was exciting. But were facing a team shooting out of their minds!

Curious where JK goes from here…

Also curious why the game post is always from GSOM, not DNHQ

heyalumnigo's avatar

I think I was always using the sbnation equivalent for each team. But I have been reading both. I do like Eric's E1P videos

heyalumnigo's avatar

So I use TBLA (which I've been reading for a long time), Fear the Fin which is no longer sbnation, and silver and black attack. Was also including silver screen and Roll when we had Lakers fans (clapdoc)
