Closed captioning

My b-i-l needs it. When I visit it's kind of nice when we watch the Dubs games and can talk amongst ourselves while still seeing what's being said.

both of my daughters prefer to watch tv / movies with closed captioning on, it took the missus a couple of years to stop complaining about it. I appreciate that sometimes you get incidental dialog that you might not otherwise hear.

Yes! There is sometimes dialogue that is completely inaudible that is transcribed

I've gotten used to it by having a MIL who is hard of hearing, however I do not like the new trend of it coming on automatically on both the Fox Sports and ESPN streaming apps. So each time you have to go in to turn them off. On my phone they take up a big portion of the screen so you can't see a lot of the action, Fox is especially bad in my experience.

I normally make the lettering translucent, so you can see the action through it, just in case.

It is interesting the mistakes that are sometimes made on the live shows.

Yeah I like it for a scripted show. But for sports it is super annoying and unhelpful

Was a game changer for actually following and understanding GoT, Peaky Blinders, plus all the Brit shows I enjoy watching.

It also did wonders for developing a real appreciation for The Gentleman, one of the better films to come around in the past 5 years IMHO...

I started doing it with the original Shameless. Wasn't until then that I knew that the last word in the title monologue was "scatter"!

now always do it. lots of times I'll read dialog that I don't here, esp background dialog

Both my pops and step-Dad can’t hear a lick (which if you knew Ma Chitwood, you’d understand is both of the dude’s superpowers) but I love good dialogue and writing…the subs allow me to catch so much that I would’ve otherwise missed.

I dunno if it’s an A.D.D. Issue, but I have such a hard time discerning things sometime, esp song lyrics, that the CC just make easier. I would still swear to this day that Boy George and Culture Club say “carmacalize my dreams” in Kharma Chameleon

First three episodes of Poker Face dropped today.

Natasha Lyonne as Charlie Cale, Rian Johnson show-run and directed the first two episodes. She's a Vegas Cocktail waitress with the gift of being able to tell when people are lying.

Aside from the murders - it's SO MUCH FUN. I'm done with episode 1 and will crank through episodes 2-3 (maybe 4?) soon

Still rewatching Friday Night Lights 18/19 - haven't rewatched it a looooong time so like the one last night hardly remember at all. Women's football game? Also watched Star Wars "Bad Batch" - 1st episode of second season was quite good - but I know other people have complained about other episodes - we'll see.

One of my close friends recommended I watch this movie a few weeks ago, so I did that night and immediately thought it might've been his way of telling me he doesn't want to be friends anymore.

I watched it on the recommendation of my friends/family, who all seemed to like it. I thought it was garbage to middling. The donkey was great and the word play well done, but this is one of those movies that is interesting to talk about but not actually enjoyable to watch. My own view is that the primary objective of any work of fiction is to entertain. So if you fail to do that, you failed. 9/19

Taco Chronicles S3. (Netflix 10/19 WNB). The first two seasons were delightful narration about specific types of tacos. Season 3 is geography based ones, which devolves into a narration about a few different places that make tacos well and people fawning over them - which really isn't a compelling story. Even worse, I tried to visit one that was featured in the NYC one and found out that it already closed down before the season dropped. It's not a bad show, it's just not that different from other food shows.

"Night Court" - 8/19. Sigh, I really want to like this more than I do. I LOVED the original series. This one is just too much formula. Melissa Rauch is OK as the judge/Harry Stone's daughter. The rest of the supporting cast is mostly blah (especially the bailiff, who is plain awful - I miss Bull!). John Larroquette is really the only brilliance in this show, and he remains pretty hysterical, even though he looks a lot like Santa in his advanced age. I am going to give this an entire season before I (or NBC) decide to dump it from my viewing list, but I don't have much hope for improvement.

I noted the other day that I (for some reason) watched the pilot of That 90s Show. I haven't/don't plan to watch this NC reboot, but if you want to make it seem better, watch the pilot of T90S. I suspect that NC would seem brilliant

I think it's going to take a while for the non-Judge Stone/Dan Felding characters to come to life. Sitcom characters always take a few episodes - especially when we're comparing them to Christine, Mac and Roz. I'm enjoying it enough to give it a few more episodes.

That was a wild game. I wonder if the Grizzlies try harder to beat the Warriors to their detriment. Ja throws his body into the defender and frequently gets the call when it isn't deserved. Klay's second foul wasn't a foul. I think a foul could've been called on Brooks everytime he defended Steph.

CruzinBears's avatar

Not to mention the Kuminga flagrant foul appeared to be a full on flop, hard to see if he ever made contact, and if he did, pretty unlikely it would have sent him flying, clutching his face.

I heard the announcers saying Steph has only been ejected 3 times and each time it was because he threw his mouthguard

A dumb development at Duquesne/Chicago Loyola MBB game. A food delivery guy walks onto the court with a McD's bag during the game.

In a later development, a guy right next to him photographed him with a microphone on and said he went into the stands and sat down - speculating that it was just a stupid stunt.
