Welcome to the DBD, a W4C community board where one can talk about pretty much anything… like bowling, the number 8, zucchini, and a what you/SO have different opinions about.
It looks like maybe there has been a change to the DBD code. Today my new replies show up open whereas the last couple of months they show up as "new reply".
The bodycam video from cops has been released about the assault on Nancy Pelosi's husband. Do yourself a favor and don't watch it. While it doesn't show it on screen, you see enough to wish you hadn't seen any of it.
A portion of the video was played on KTVU this morning. Within a few seconds of the start the attack is shown. I can't understand why the cops didn't act almost immediately after the front door opens. They froze in a critical moment. Shocking.
This wont' be surprising but a watchdog group trace $1m donation from Trump's Save America PAC to the Arizona "audit". This goes contrary to previous denials by Cyber Ninjas that any funding came from Trump
Some Republican guy announces his announces his candidacy for US President. His qualifications are that he has attended only Christian schools or online for-profit programs, never held public office but his dad has, and this...
This is what I don’t understand generally about the concept of wanting an “outsider” - if you were in the position of hiring someone for a job, any job, say a line cook at Denny’s, you would of course prefer someone with relevant experience. If you came into some money and needed to hire someone as like a business manager or trustee to help you manage your money/business affairs (ie, you were hiring someone to serve in a fiduciary role), you would really, really, really want someone with relevant experience! Why when hiring someone for POTUS, a fiduciary position of the highest order where the office holder can order you to go to war and die and where he/she has her hands on so many levers that affect people’s pocketbooks and daily lives, would you go for a fuck you shits and giggles hire? It’s bonkers!
Imagine this approach for Cal football fire, Wilcox and bring in an "outsider" someone with no football coaching experience but who was a smash in the business world. (Hope I haven't given Knowlton any ideas.)
Buddy Carter (R-GA) introduced a bill that would abolish the IRS and introduce a 30% sales tax. The Bill has no chance of surviving, yet it is another reason why extremists and uneducated nuts shouldn't run the country.
Like, Marianne Williamson has consulted her psychic and decided she going to talk to people in New Hampshire to decide whether she should run for President again
On one hand, I can understand why the Friday afternoon news dump is an ideal time to drop this to avoid media coverage. On other hand, many folks will be off work until Monday, which leaves a ton of time for protesting.
Gov. Kemp (R-GA) activates 1,000 National Guard amid protests. The fact that I read about the protests and can't tell you which of the outrageous police-related violence the current protests are about is kinda telling as to where we are in our society.
The CA State Bar has filed disciplinary proceedings against John Eastman. Eastman is the former chairman of the Federalist Society, member of conservative think tank Claremont Institute, former clerk for Clarence Thomas, and the former dean of Chapman College's law school who caught the attention of the Trump administration partly because of a false op-ed piece that claimed that Kamala Harris was not an American citizen. He joined the Save America group and when multiple people in Trump's circle pushed back that trying a coup was a bad idea, he was accepted into Trump's inner circle. He then was the architect behind having Pence reject electors and creating alternative electors. This is just the first step; Mr. Eastman has been referred to the DOJ by the J6C for prosecution.
D-Generation X is a WWE wrestling stable that has included Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Chyna, X-Pac, and the New Age Outlaws. The back story is that they're a gang of rebels who did what they want no matter how provocative. Their newest member is Charles Entertainment Cheese.
Dunno...that tackle happens countless times per game...now you're going to ask a bunch of already overmatched folks in their 50's to be the arbiters of whether a picture-perfect tackle that these guys learned 15 years prior as kids in Pop Warner is now illegal?
If you want to make an inherently unsafe game safe, just make it two-hand touch/flag already, you money grubbing whores called owners.
Any incident where somebody or something happens to land on (and as a result anchor) a foot to the ground or floor (same thing can happen in basketball), any twisting, contact, or other movement is going to run some risk of an ankle or lower leg or knee or hip injury, at least as long as gravity still exists, and even the NFL (or to a degree, the NBA) can't repeal that. Something will give to some degree.
It’s kabuki. I think they view the safety stuff as an existential threat (probably correctly) and so they need to make a show of “making the game safe” in response to high profile incidents, even if the actions they take don’t really do anything
Agreed, but man, they’re such frauds. That same play happens literally every game…but when it happens to the RB for America’s team in the Playoffs, it spurns a rule change. So silly.
[NBA] NBA All Star starters are 50% decided by fans, 25% by players, and 25% by media. While most players took the poll seriously, there are those that didn't. A case in point, several players voted for Jae Croweder, Chet Holmgren, Omer Yurtseven who haven't played a game this season.
I remember hearing the story where he didn't pick up his 2017 Warriors championship ring because he feels like he didn't earn it. Forgot if he was injured the majority of the season or what. The Warriors ended up sending it to him and I don't think he's really even opened it.
I don’t otherwise have snobby tastes, but I just can’t watch the superhero movies. I just find them absolutely ridiculous. Yet I am obviously in the minority! Like 9 of the top 10 all time grossing movies are random ass superhero movies
Same! Getting the SO’s buy in on things of that nature is a bit of a process… also her group of friends really needs like an organizer. I want them to have an annual girl’s weekend tradition, so that I have cover to do the same, but I haven’t been able to get them to set that up despite me emailing/calling each of them to suggest it many times.
Loading the dishwasher. She puts nearly everything in there and runs it when it gets too crowded. I hand-wash big, bulky things (pots, pans, large bowls) because otherwise the dishwasher would be full after nearly every meal. Fortunately the dishes are one of my chores around the house, so I don't have to put up with her inferior loading strategy.
Dishwashers are a topic of discussion between me and Mrs Slug because ours died recently. Lots of research in the last two weeks: first on repair, then on replacement.
We're replacing because the parts alone are close to the cost of a new one to say nothing of labor for someone else to install the new parts. This one crapped out after 7 years; motor(s) died.
You'd be surprised. I learned very recently that a single fill of water for a dishwasher is approximately 0.9 gallon. Even if it fills 3 times for one wash (2.7 gallons), it's more efficient than washing the same dishes manually.
Also, the most expensive part of a dishwasher load is the cost of the detergent. Depending on durability, your dishwasher cost per load may be less expensive than the detergent.
I can't recall her name, but I attended a regional conference with a keynote speaker know for self help. She talked about this same issue in her house, only to come to the conclusion that you don't want to be the person that rearranges the dishwasher or offers your SO too much unsolicited advice in this area; something to do with letting go of the small stuff. Great idea that is probably difficult for most of us to put into reality on a consistent basis. :)
I'd say unless you have to run it multiple times and affects your utility usage. My SO knows it bugs me and just lets me load it from the sink, I don't mind taking on that responsibility.
I have a different spin on the dishwasher thing. The dishwasher, as Scootie says, is much more water and energy efficient than handwashing. Where I've always differed with the rest of my family is that I actually read the manual. The manual explains and shows pictures on how to load the dishwasher efficiently, so that you get the most dishes etc. in there, without blocking the water streams, so that everything gets clean. I haven't met anyone else who has read the manual for their dishwasher.
Absolutely correct. But nearly everyone has been brought up on what their parents thought was the best way to load a dishwasher and the belief that nothing changes in this area.
This week I learned it is considerably more efficient to run the dishwasher more often than to do any dishes by hand, so I'm coming down on Mrs Bk's side here.
Running a dishwasher load takes less water and energy than washing ONE PLACE SETTING of dishes by hand.
Football. She hates it. Those of you who were lucky enough to ever meet her at the Cal@UNC game will probably never see her again because she will never attend a football game again.
Started with a 12 pound ball back in middle school. Got up to 16 in college. Currently back down to 12.
Was interested to find out that the interior weighted core of bowling balls has changed a lot over the years. It's now more cylindrical than spherical.
I have PTSD from bowling in High School where I employed that strategy and somehow managed to almost break the ankle on my plant leg by banging the ball off of it. I’ve basically bowled twice in over 30 years since, and even then I lack the commitment. I’m totally gun shy.
Probably. But I feel like I can throw an 8 lb ball harder proportionally than, for example, a 13 lb ball. Who knows. My fingers don't fit into the 8 lb balls anymore anyways.
I wouldn't really consider them a Pac-12 university but I don't think the old rules apply anymore. Probably the best SoCal option right now. I like schools being paired with a rival but it's probably not essential for scheduling anymore.
Curious why? SD St is an automatic slam dunk obvious addition, following in the path of ASU, and more recently Utah.
Pretty consistently good FB program with a good working relationship already with multiple conference members, and a brand new stadium.
Consistently good to very good MBB team. Baseball is probably better than USC's program, and facilities are better than UCLA's.
Short trip for AZ and CA schools and a manageable and attractive road trip for the NW and Mt schools, and maintains a presence in the vital SoCal recruiting area. Maintains a good presence in the 2nd largest TV market in the country, and MUCH better than it will be without them with the LA schools gone.
Almost always good weather, in a very attractive community. School is solid, and on an upward trajectory.
Probably completely willing to accept a ramping up share of conference revenue to get started.
And adding the Aztecs will preclude anyone else from grabbing them up.
Partying and alcohol consumption is a common research topic at most schools…;-)
I’m ok adding SDSU, but there’s NO other school that brings enough to the table to add. Leave it at 11 - they already basically got rid of the divisions anyways.
Interesting piece and it seems like Kliavkoff has his work cut out for him. Scott's Waterloo, among other issues, was his failure to raise $500 million for the Network.
Excuse me, but they want $150+/seat for the Auburn game?
Anybody know if we have any "Bear" skin in today's NFL games?

OVER THE LINE
i like bowling but i sort of suck at it. but it is usually a fun time and good excuse to drink some beer (as if i needed one anyways .. )
i generally score in the 130-150 range. a good game is in the 150+ range and i am pretty sure i have never scored over 200.
My best game (decades ago) was 235. Pretty much a 140-150 average.
I'm about the same. when I was young, bowling was the "sport" that I was best at. Got trophies and patches.
When I've bowled over the last 20 years, I've managed a few 200s, but mostly 130 to 160.
My strategy is throw it as hard as I can between the 1 and 2 or 1 and 3 pins.
I have PTSD from bowling in High School where I employed that strategy and somehow managed to almost break the ankle on my plant leg by banging the ball off of it. I’ve basically bowled twice in over 30 years since, and even then I lack the commitment. I’m totally gun shy.
8
lb. From what I remember, the lightest bowling balls at the alley. Helpful for throwing as hard as possible down the lane. P=mv
i think there a balance between having enough weight and it going fast no?
Probably. But I feel like I can throw an 8 lb ball harder proportionally than, for example, a 13 lb ball. Who knows. My fingers don't fit into the 8 lb balls anymore anyways.
