Things that have happened in this 30-minute interview:

1) candidate’s internet cut out

2) hiring manager muting himself mid-question

3) HR person trying to discuss interview logistics when the candidate was already in the room

4) hiring manager's cat singing the song of its people in the background

The IOC is nothing more than a criminal enterprise with international cachet, validated by major TV networks while extorting athletes' dreams of glory for their spectacle and avarice.

Just my two cynical cents.

Expand full comment
sycasey's avatar

True, but doesn't this also describe basically every pro sport?

It does in a looser sense. The IOC seems to be more or less immune to legal pushback. Not so with the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

Expand full comment
Rocksanddirt's avatar

I agree on the luster falling away. I actually think it has to do with both the expansion of coverage to cable/streaming so the broadcasters don't feel bad about chasing ratings first and foremost on the main broadcast, which means only the biggest TV sports are shown. And far to long of breaks from the action to manufacture drama with interviews and 'get to know the players' spots.

The actual competitions that I've watched have mostly been very engaging.
