Arthur is done. PBS had the last episode of Arthur on Sunday. Arthur was one of the shows No 1 watched. I bet quite a few '09 gang watched it. Along with those with kids.
They ran a week long marathon showing all the previous episodes. My kids watch Arthur and episodes will still be available for streaming on the PBS Kids App.
I stayed up later than planned – was gonna watch an ep of S4 of Mrs. Maisel, but Amazon is dropping eps weekly, so I'll wait til they're all available – and watched Being the Ricardos. Aaron Sorkin "biopic" about Lucy and Desi. Was quite good...similar to his Steve Jobs movie in that instead of their life, it focuses on a few times in their life – in this case, one week (with flashbacks) – to tell their story.
16/19...it'd been awhile since I'd had a Sorkin fix!
Besides the better dynamic range, OLED also looks the same when you view off center. It's up to you if the advantages are worth it, but I do like our OLED quite a lot.
I have a Samsung Frame, which is a QLED. It's...fine? I don't watch it enough to pay 2x+ more for a little bit better picture. Really depends on how much you watch and in what conditions.
What I do like about my Frame is that it displays art when it's off, so it's hung on the wall and pretty much passes as a painting or framed photo, depending on what I'm displaying that day.
We got an OLED for the living room in December and it has been fantastic. The ability to display true blacks really improves scenes that would otherwise be washed out or gray-ish on traditional LCD panels. And the intensity of the colors is really astonishing when displaying a proper HDR source. Like FS said, it wouldn't be a great option for a room with tons of natural light because they can't achieve the same brightness as high-end LCD panels. But otherwise, I found it to be well worth a few hundred dollars more.
we just got an OLED and it is awesome. Basically, our research suggested that OLEDs give amazing intense definition to black and dark colors which makes it pop. If you're in a media room or an area with limited light, OLED is totes worth it. If in a high light room, regular is fine since the OLED benefit will be minimized
I bought a new 82 inch Samsung high quality LED last August and I have been happy with it. I would have preferred an OLED but the price point was still a bit too high for me.
Watched the latest episode of The After Party, it was an animated episode and it was really well done.
I have a theory on the show. I think Xavier got Jennifer 2 pregnant and when she confronted him about the baby being his he fainted and accidentally fell to his death.
I agree and I think Yasper’s musical episode is the best one so far.
The only one I can see with a reason to be upset enough to potentially kill Xavier would be Yasper. Other than him, I can’t see any one that has been interviewed so far hating Xavier enough to kill him on purpose. I could see someone confronting Xavier about something and him accidentally falling off his balcony to get out of the situation.
I watched the latest season of Cobra Kai over 5 days at the gym. I thought the season was good. A couple things surprised me in the last episode and a couple of things didn't. It will be interesting to see what the plan is for next season for a couple of characters.
It's kind of crazy how the next season has already been filmed last November (or finished them) but won't come out until the end of the year. Given the rating success, they will probably film another season by them (so the kids don't age too much).
Health. Last week the missus and I were hit by a horrific cold--tons of head congestion and never-ending exhaustion, but at least it wasn't covid--and now that it's cleared up the missus came down with some sort of horrific food poisoning the other night. Today, I am very thankful that I can breathe through my nose and eat a meal without worry that it will be violently ejected a few minutes later.
[NY Times] U.S. Soccer and Women’s Players Agree to Settle Equal Pay Lawsuit
WOW .. big news for something that seemed dead a year ago.
Under the terms of the agreement, the athletes will receive $24 million and a pledge from the federation to equalize pay for the men’s and women’s national teams.
Would US Soccer be handicapping themselves by agreeing to equal pay here? The big reason the women's teams don't get equal pay is because women's soccer simply doesn't make as much money as men's soccer.
I think the revenue sharing from the World Cups is just a percentage thing. Of course, currently there is a difference in prize money between the Men's and Women's World Cup and this lawsuit is also a push to equalize that.
Outside the international competitions, the women plays more games and those (even just friendlies) are more profitable than the men (who even played that recent World Cup qualifying game in a freezing Minnesota to minimize the number of El Salvador supporters).
That would lead to an interesting argument: that with greater support the women's game will grow and come closer to the men's game financially. That may well happen.
FWIW, I think right now the big difference is in World Cup revenue: the men's tournament absolutely dwarfs the women's tournament in terms of revenue given out to the participating national teams. The women's team was only able to claim they out-earned the men's team in a cycle when the women won the whole thing and the men failed to qualify at all, something that isn't likely to be representative going forward.
But if that revenue gap closes in the future then the argument for equal pay is stronger.
I take a slightly different view. The USSF is a non-profit that's supposed to be making fielding men's & women's teams at different age levels, improving scouting, and so on. It's not a professional organization in the sense of allocating spending purely on the basis of who generates revenue - it's already diverting revenue from men's broadcast revenue to those programs that I mentioned above. I don't have an issue with the broader question of whether the money from the women's world cup from *FIFA* is different, but there's nothing that says that USSF has their hands tied about how they allocate revenues.
At some point, I'll try to understand more about this new deal and the recent NWSL collective bargain agreements. The two things are tied together because the biggest soccer stars are paid much much more by US national team and just allocated to the US-based club teams. Trinity Rodman (daughter of Dennis) recently became the highest paid NWSL player ever a year after being the No.1 over pick, because she hasn't spent enough time with USWNT to earned the allocated player status (from what I understand).
I finally bought an electric toothbrush a few months ago following my dentist's recommendation that it may reduce tartar buildup. We'll see if it made a difference when I have my next appointment next month, but it certainly feels like it does a better job than a manual brush.
Interesting/troubling NYT piece on Ginni Thomas, Republican activist and wife of Clarence Thomas. It's alarming how far the justice system has veered from even the illusion of impartiality.
Unfortunately, due to his job being a lifetime appointment and the inability of the president to fire a SCOTUS Justice, you really have no choice but to root for either his retirement or death.
It's hard not to want to psychoanalyze him. It feels like maybe the shame of him being exposed in those confirmation hearings and Anita Hill's testimony just made him want to go scorched earth on everyone.
I read a profile on him that showed how he encountered racism in a very liberal environment. While I sympathize with his experience and agree that liberals can be very racist themselves, I think choosing respond by aligning with a political movement that is a couple of decades away from reinstituting slavery of African-Americans is a tad bit of an irrational overreaction.
I agree and maybe it was the confirmation hearings that influenced him to go scorched earth. It would be poetic justice for Biden to pick his replacement.
Sources close to Wilcox said the Oregon job initially came with some conditions related to the recruiting philosophy and possibly assistants to retain or hire. Those "spooked" the coach, one person said. Even when Oregon relaxed on some of those items, Wilcox didn't feel he could run the program like he wanted. He turned down Oregon's offer to become coach, sources said.
"It seemed like they wanted him to work in the gray area, and that's really not him," said a source close to Wilcox. "Justin is the kind of guy who likes to recruit kids that aren't interested in the Recaro leather seats. After he made up his mind, he just stuck with it."
Is it though? Cal doesn't do gray area very well. When we do, we tend to get caught. While other programs have built cultures to support that sort of thing.
I meant more paying players through NIL. I don’t consider paying players through NIL deals as gray area but it seems like Wilcox is a bit uncomfortable with this.
Somewhat understandable that the punter depth chart might not be the area most people are most on top of, but you would think the person charged for actually making roster updates and entering the data in the portal would check their work before clicking on "Save".
I think Zion is done with the Pelicans when his rookie contract is done after next season, if not before. Hell, unless the Pelicans get a vet to get him to get into shape, no way he's going to be durable next season. Either that or trade him for whatever they can get and he should hope he goes to a team with vets that gets him to get into shape and stop eating.
Reminder that minor league players not on the 40-men rosters are having Spring Training per usual. The Minor League Baseball season is also a go even if the MLB lockout is not resolved.
Dodgers AAA team (OKC) is going to be in Sacramento playing the Giants AAA team 3rd week of April. I plan on going to at least 2 of the games. One during the week and another over the weekend, probably Sunday.
[SB] Cal will face Oklahoma on March 11th. In case you missed it, the Sooners have Jocelyn Alo who is currently tied for the all-time HR mark for softball. Alo is tied with Lauren Chamberlain at, who achieve the mark in 220 games, whereas Alo has played in 205.
Nah. I'm on the college visit circuit now. All non-work dates are reserved for doing the necessary. Conditions allowing - I'm going to DC in April, California in May, London in June, and New York in July.
Cal's Veronica Nelson still holds the D-1 records for walks for career (395) and season (108, 2002). Cal holds six of the top seven walks-per-season, with Nelson holding #1, 2, 4, and 6. Can you guess which Cal player holds the other two (#3, #7)?
Went to my first gymnastics meet yesterday. Saw the Cal women defeat Arizona. Enjoyed the experience and will return. It's weird to watch a sport in which judges determine scores and athletes are not directly facing their opponents. (Might it be more interesting if when on the bars someone from the other team was trying to block you or tackle you during a vault?) But the athleticism of the women is undeniable and impressive, not to mention the enthusiasm and constant joy on display.
When I was an undergrad at Cal, the men's gymnastic team was excellent and were national champions one year, and conference champs most years. They were quite impressive to watch. The women's team was not at that level, but were still interesting to see.
It's also weird to root against someone in gymnastics. I have not seen people so vicious (yet) as to root for someone to fall off the balance beam.
Maybe this is more acceptable in men's gymnastics? Then again, I went to a men's meet where the Stanford guy screwed up on the high bars and either hit his hands (or possibly even face) on the bars before face planting on the mat. He was able to get up and shake it off though. I think it is just human instinct to not with that on anyone, even a Furdie.
I’d definitely watch contact gymnastics...like 3 opponents trying to put a body on someone during their floor routine...now that would be something. Or opponents heckling the gymnast on their beam exercise, like a free throw?

Then again, I went to a men's meet where the Stanford guy screwed up on the high bars and either hit his hands (or possibly even face) on the bars before face planting on the mat. He was able to get up and shake it off though. I think it is just human instinct to not with that on anyone, even a Furdie.
Nice!
I’d definitely watch contact gymnastics...like 3 opponents trying to put a body on someone during their floor routine...now that would be something. Or opponents heckling the gymnast on their beam exercise, like a free throw?
I miss the "Curtain of Distraction"
that was a pretty good one.
I remember seeing the Speedo Guy game.

I envision one member of each team doing floor exercises at the same time. Full contact allowed. Same with the beam.
add in a little baby oil and I'm there
But, but, it would mess up their uniforms... oh wait ISWYD
