Welcome to the DBD, a W4C community board where one can talk about pretty much anything, like…
Scott Adams is a cartoonist famous for drawing Dilbert. He got his BA at Hartwick College but also his MBA from UC Berkeley in 1986. His opinions are… uh… controversial.
This parody comic was done by InfiniteGuff, who can be found here. He does commissions on demand.
I've been entertained that more conservative writers who have been complaining about people getting cancelled for being woke (Connor Friedersdorf, Thomas Willliams Chatterton iirc) decided that it was okay for Scott Adams to suffer commercial consequences for endorsing segregation.
Someone who was trying to cause trouble would note that it's possible for Adams to both be a dreary bigot who plainly has been working through a variety of problems in public, and that there is not in practice a large difference between self sorting by upper middle class professionals that amounts to the same thing even if it's for different stated reasons.
Bottom of the ninth, tie game, bases loaded, two outs. Single A player Cal Conley is trying to make a name for himself and manages to get a full count. Then this happened.
He was in the box, but wasn't looking at the pitcher. Even though the catcher was standing up looking at his card.
Scherzer is loving the new power he has. Think about if a batter has already called time. Scherzer can be ready to pitch at 8, batter has to be ready, he can hold off starting until just before 0. Make the batter stand there ready to hit for 8 seconds.
Like often happens with rues modifications, I suspect there will be some relatively aggressive calls initially, and then things will moderate to a more tolerable level.
It’s a stupid rule altogether. To save, what, 12 minutes off a game? Like that’s gonna increase interest in a game that has been on the decline for 30 years?
It is. I'm curious to see what Urías gets this offseason. He's a Boras agent so he'll most likely take long over short with high AAV. I think the Dodgers would be willing to go short with high AAV but they aren't going long. He'll be 27 this offseason since he started in the MLB to early. He's probably at least 2 years younger than most top pitchers starting free agency. I've seen articles that say he's doesn't like how the Dodgers are careful with him and don't let him throw 100+ pitches.
a GOOD Warriors finish in the 4th quarter last night.
Kerr calls a timeout w/ 6-7 min left to play and it is mic-ed up. he basically says, "we are down 10. they were down 10 at home and won, so lets do the same. get a stop, get a bucket and we'll be good"
sure enough, that is exactly what happened. W's went from down 10, to up 5 in a couple minutes and it looked like they had it wrapped up until they started turning it over right at the end. luckily the game ended!
On Friday, Judge Howell released a redacted copy of her December decision about Rep. Scott Perry's defense of "speech or debate clause". While there are still steps ahead, it is another step forward to allows disclosure of incriminating evidence of the President and several sitting members of congress of them trying to coordinate a coup.
Florida State, citing their unhappiness about their revenue distribution vis-a-vis how much they bring in, threaten to leave the ACC if their ratio isn't renegotiated.
Iowa basketball, both men's and women's, had their moments too. Men scored 23 points and came back from 13 down in the last 1:34 to eventually win in OT. Women got a three at the buzzer to win over #2 Indiana.
[BASE] Bears sweep Cal Poly 2-1 and 7-3 over the weekend. They also beat UConn 4-2 and had their second game on Sunday cancelled due to water coming out of the sky.
Went with our tailgate crew to Saturdays games. There’s a pitch clock now and the games moved fairly quickly. The second game clocked in at 2h 40m. Pitching management is still suspect, but there is quite a bit of power at the plate this year, more so than I can ever remember. And not just a one man show like the Vaughn days.
[SB] Bears swept through the weekend, beating San Diego 10-1, Utah Valley 6-5, Cal Poly 8-3, Iowa 6-4, and a good Texas Tech team 3-0 despite still missing ace Sona Halajian and 3-hole hitter Tatum Anzaldo.
Women's basketball swept on the road to close regular season while Jayda Curry keeps her streak of consecutive games hitting a three alive at 51. Didn't hit her three on Saturday until the last minute of the game. She was the only player to hit a three in every Pac 12 conference game this season.

BK97 and DCBlue alert, HSB can't make dinner tonight. DCT, tbb, and I are meeting at Lapis at 7. If either, or both, want to come, please let us know.
Ironically, I'm in CA right now for work. Otherwise I'd stop by
that is a very cryptic acronym even for someone who knows exactly that is going on!
Or anyone else in the area that wants to join.
or if you want to fly in just for dinner, that is acceptable too
I'm trying to avoid feeling too rejected
I had oral surgery on Saturday and am still keeping a low profile. Thanks for the offer though.

What is this Automatic Strike? Is it for failing to get into the batter's box within a certain time?

I think the MLB is going to have to tweak it. No way the current rules work for post season.

Manny Machado gets PAID

11 year contract at age 31? @Yeah that contract is going to age well.@
I feel like every big MLB contract is a minimum 10 year contract now.
Still, while a decade is a long time, they aren’t touching the Bobby Bonilla/Mets contract.

DBD AV CLUB
Black Widow (Disney network) is my new show to watch while i work out.
i didnt really know what to expect, but it is pretty good, entertaining, a good back story of traumatized kids that grow up to be super-people.
the first episode is nearly 90 min long .. still only halfway thru
I see no Black Widow series on Disney+, just the movie and a making-of documentary. Is this called something else?
https://www.disneyplus.com/movies/black-widow/3VfTap90rwZC
ah ok .. i thought it was a series. but now i realize it was a movie!
Is this new? I didn’t know they dropped a series on this and was only aware of the movie.
you are correct. i am dumb
The Consultant…Amazon Prime. Christophe Waltz and Sydney Sweeney’s friend from White Lotus S1.
Wild.
Also, I finally got around to seeing Birdman, with Michael Keaton….just almost 10 years later. I enjoyed it. He was really good.
It's the rare case of an Oscar winner that was -- to my mind -- underrated. Keaton was brilliant.
Watched The Fabelmans.
