Tomato soup. Very few ingredients, so it all comes down to the ingredients. It's a great for making in summer and freezing for a winter meal. Pairs perfectly with a grilled cheese sandwich.
I watched Cannonball Run a few months back and while I was expecting the usual sexist / homophobic / xenophobic jokes, what was really strikingly different was how much drunk driving was just played for gags throughout the film. Looks like it was a lot of fun to film though.
At the time I watched Cannonball Run, I had never heard of Jackie Chan. When I first saw a movie with him in it a couple of years later, I was like, hey, the guy from Cannonball Run that drove with Jaws.
Own that you dropped your wrestling team after we obliterated you. Again. Also, I went 4-4 in a baseball game just by dinking fly balls off your stupid right field fence net
Wrestling? Like contact Pilates? Good riddance…rolling around on a mat isn’t a sport.
That fence was admittedly a joke, tho Albany’s field sported a similar short RF IIRC. If we’re being honest, the ESAL was filled with dogschitt ball fields. O’Dowd was nice, Encinal and those St. Mary’s a$$hats had OK ones…everything else ranged from meh to garbage. We played St. Elizabeth’s on some skin infield with busted glass in the hood across from Too Short’s old house. I see fields the HS kids play on now and it pisses me off!
haha so true. Your fence was worse than ours but we had the jank center field drop off so it went from 30 feet down to 8 feet in dead center... but that was like 300 feet out. So many cheap HRs
And that St Elizabeth's field. Lawdy. I still tell the story of when we dropped our varsity team off at Skyline and we drove down E 86th to get to their field to play JV. I saw prostitution in action, drug deals, fights... my lily white ass was terrified. So we only beat them 19-0 that day. Damn their program sucked.
Agreed…I remember away games at Richmond and Kennedy HS (Richmond) - seriously eye opening experiences. I think PHS finally got booted out through the Caldecott tunnel to a league with Acalanes, Miramonte and Campo. It was fun watching Jason Kidd twice a year and playing against him in baseball for a couple of years…Newellbany played v him in hoops. That was a drubbing.
we had a week shortly after we expelled 11 of 12 varsity BBall players for receiving oral ministrations from a frosh in the lunch room were we got beat 80-18 by O'Dowd at home and 95-46 at St. Joe's (J Kidd's frosh year). Whomever made that schedule was an asshole
The 2 year old pup Jonesy is getting the snip tomorrow and I’m preparing to be confined to the house through the weekend, at the least, so I am trying to account for all the reasons that would cause me to have to run errands this weekend….grocery store, pharmacy, dry cleaners, etc.
Firmly convinced he’s on the spectrum so I need to keep him doped up so he doesn’t chase shadows and schitt like normal and rip his stitches. This little mf’er could very well be a canine junkie after this week….
I'll be in the greater PHX area for about a week to watch Spring Training. I have DBDs lined up, but don't wait for me to post topics because I'll be hung over.
Most beautiful winter day in Los Angeles that I can remember. It was cold and windy, but the air was as clear as I've ever seen and the snow level dropped to 1,500ft overnight (for the second time in the past week). Everything over 3,000 got at least a foot leading to the most snow capped mountains bordering L.A. that I've ever seen here. Look for some really fantastic photography to be coming out in the next few days.
When I went to bed last night it was raining. It was also very cold. Woke up this morning and it was still cold. After breakfast, I unlocked the pickup. Tried to open the door; wouldn't budge. Looked again at the door. Realized that the window had ice on it. The door was frozen shut. I had to body slam the door to break the ice and get it open.
mostly nice today. we got about 3-4 inches of snow overnight on Monday and i enjoyed shoveling snow for a bit on Tuesday morning. it was the first real snow of the season in NYC that lasted more than a few hours on the ground.
it is still rather cold and the snow has not melted
A nephew and his girlfriend decided they'd like to live at Tahoe for a while so are renting a place. I think he may be regretting that decision based on all the shoveling he's been having to do. Probably doesn't have time to go snowboarding since he's too busy shoveling and clearing snow.
This would be a rough winter for that experiment. I'm hoping maybe it will drive away some of the people who moved up there during the panorama to ease the housing crunch a bit.
we were getting pictures from my older daughter of Vassar getting covered with snow, very pretty (although tbh she's not that big a fan now that she's not a kid)
Mavs down by 2, Kyrie dribbles to the top of the key with 4 seconds left. Justin Holiday is open beyond the arc because the Pacers are doubling Doncic. Kleber sets a pick for Irving in the paint. Hardaway is on the right wing as an option. Of all the things he can do, he chooses to waste time and then heave a contested step-back 3 pointer and ensures that he and Luka go 1-4 together.
Warriors come back BIG for a good home win vs Portland
i almost turned this game off at halftime since Ws were down 15-20 pts. i only watched the first part of the 3rd q because i got bisy doing some work stuff.
next thing you know, Ws erase a 23 pt deficit and end up winning comfortably. i would say that Portland sort gave this one away by playing terrible in the 2nd half, but i guess they are not known for their defense ...
Athletes exist on a spectrum from Mark Prior (perennially injured) to Justin Verlander (amazing longevity/health). Zion seems much more like Prior than Verlander, and at this point almost certainly always will be, sad to say
Louisville is 4-25 (beat Western Kentucky, Florida A&M, GA Tech, and Clemson). They were down 35-27 to Virginia Tech at half. Let's check in to see how halftime went:
Arrest warrant issued for Georgia Jalen Carter - an expected top 3 pick in the draft - in connection with the car accident that killed his teammate Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy
"Milk Street Vegetables", by Christopher Kimball. It's an outstanding cookbook that takes great regional dishes from around the world, localizes some of the ingredients for the US, and then simplifies some techniques. I found it as an outstanding way to reinvigorate some of my boring vegetable side dishes. Over 300 pages. Best of all, they are almost all available for free on his website here: https://www.177milkstreet.com/recipes/collection/milk-street-vegetables
I am currently reading Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. It's apparently based on David Copperfield (which I have never read), but situated in Appalachian Virginia in modern times. It's good.
Don't know if I every thanked you. You once directed me towards several books/femaleauthors that I really liked, especially the The Dutch House by Ann Patchett, brilliant book. Been reading mostly women recently after years of (stupidly) avoiding them.

Something Korean
I watched a K-drama, Iris, on Netflix. It's a 20 episode series about two guys in a S Korean spy organization. I really enjoyed it.
that's ollllllddddddddddd, man
I'm not sure how it popped up on my recommended list. But I liked it and the main female star is cute as hell.

Don't I know it. It's my go to dinner when Mrs Slug wants an easy night. Any grilled cheese sandwich goes with tomato soup.

Eh, it was never really great if you asked me then. Just good.
Most 80s and 90s comedies. Seem incredibly sexist and often racist and homophobic today.
Revenge of the Nerds...wrong in so many ways!

Short Circuit. Acting in Brown Face is no longer acceptable.
true, but the Gandhi movie seems ok.
Bringing up Albany makes me want to say "SUCK IT, PIEDMONT! YOU SUCK"
We owned Albany.
Complete. Ownage.

No matter.
I've never heard greco-roman wrestling described as contact Pilates but it makes a weird kind of sense...

that would be my dream. free exercise every day from shoveling snow and chopping and stacking firewood. skiing would be a bonus, of course ..
a few weeks ago i noticed that a neighbor had a giant pile of firewood, so i volunteered to stack it for him.
