Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) announced Friday he will resign effective April 19, leaving the slim House GOP majority with a one-vote margin that will make it even harder to pass legislation.
Under Wisconsin law, Gallagher’s seat is likely to remain vacant until January, with the November general election to determine who wins his seat.
When Gallagher leaves, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will be able to suffer only one defection from his side on party-line votes. The realities of the thin majority were on full display earlier Friday, as the House passed a $1.2 trillion spending bill by a narrow margin.

But yes! The Ohtani stuff seems obviously ridiculous. I think he most likely used his buddy to place bets for him, but will hard to prove without some sort of arm of the government getting interested and subpoenaing his texts, WhatsApp, etc. I suppose it is possible that he was just covering for his buddy also, but I dunno, would probably not wire directly out of his own account if that was the situation
Even the Japanese fans are getting suspicious of Shohei right now. We'll see if more stories come out, but at the moment it looks like he's free to play. If the Dodgers ever regret signing Shohei to a huge contract, then they might stop protecting Shohei and that would be interesting.
Time for the Seiya Suzuki to shine as the new superstar.
Bear sightings....Sandy Barbour was sitting courtside at last night's women's b-ball game. After years of Knowlton she seems like the greatest athletic director of all time. Knowlton appeared briefly at the game. He looked around and left. He didn't have his usual dopey grin. Maybe he knows the gig is up. Also at the game was Ron Rivera whose wife played b-ball at Cal.
Is it a coincidence that Barbour and Rivera are in town and that Knowlton is looking so glum?
BERKELEY – The California women's basketball team got a huge effort from Lulu Twidale and a key bucket from Kemery Martín to come away with the 65-60 win against Hawaii in the first round of the inaugural WBIT on Thursday night at Haas Pavilion. The California football team's annual Pro Day featured the usual strong performances by former Golden Bears trying to improve their pro football stock in front of scouts from approximately 20 NFL teams, as well as a few surprises including inside linebacker Jackson Sirmon's long snapping session.
"It's really just something to add value," said Sirmon about his long snapping. "If I can play linebacker, do special teams and long snap it's just something that teams might find useful."
BERKELEY – California women's tennis freshman Mao Mushika clinched for the third time this season in the 10th-ranked Golden Bears' 6-1 win over Hawaii on Thursday at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The first year Bear defeated Sheena Masuda, 6-0, 6-3, to decide the match.

She placed 16th overall after going 22.03 in the B-final.

Scientists and theologians agree that the Hokey Pokey has little or nothing to do with “what it’s all about.”
(All trivia verified by the International Trivia Foundation.)
I believe that’s due to confusion with Gumby’s friend Pokey. Gumby and Pokey, that really is what it’s all about.
Fun fact, I still know the Gumby theme song by heart. Haven't watched it in 40+ years. And no...I don't have Asperger's. I think.

March Madness:
haha...UK loses to Oakland (unsurprisingly UK fans want to part with Coach Cal)
BYU upset by a team I can't pronounce (Duquesne)
Nevada chokes away a win by Dayton
Samford got screwed on a foul call on a clean chase down block (obviously they don't have the star power that LBJ has)
NC State just keeps winning and winning by beating Texas Tech.
NC State's big man is easy to root for.
He has quick feet.
I was THIS close to picking Oakland in my bracket...fail
I thought BYU was the strongest 6 seed...fail
I had Nevada in all my brackets and thought "hey, 17 point lead with 9 mins left...I'm good!"...fail
Samford got robbed and while I thought Kansas would go out relatively early because of their injuries, I don't think they get much farther.
Had Tech going to the Final 8 in one of my brackets. Stupendous fail

Oakland is the county. Oakland is a public university, part of the Michigan State system.

Yup, Detroit is located in Oakland County, Michigan.
Correction: Oakland County is just north of Detroit.
