VGER

GoldenSD81's avatar

I’m off on a voyage to La Paz. At CBX currently and about to use the land bridge to walk over the border and walk into the Tijuana airport. It is supposedly 90 degrees and the margaritas and beer are ice cold.

heyalumnigo's avatar

Is it better or cheaper for you to fly out if Tijuana instead of SD to South America?

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

is Tijuana even a legit airport to fly in/out of? probably internal to the rest of Mexico it is good?

this Sky Bridge thing is pretty cool ..

GoldenSD81's avatar

It is a legit airport and very nice. Not sure how their international flights are but it is great for domestic.

CruzinBears's avatar

I have a friend in San Diego who does it regularly to charter fishing boats in La Paz, it's apparently very easy and very affordable since the flight then becomes domestic. Right off the bat that is a savings of ~$170 round trip. My round trip coach flights from LAX to SJD/Cabo have been $300 (Alaskan), $450 and $650 (American). Also I think La Paz is a domestic airport so you have to fly from TJ or route through Mexico City or Guadalajara. I'm definitely considering driving to SD and using CBX for my next trip to La Paz as I'd rather do a 2.5hr drive in the US than pay for a 2.5hr shuttle from SJD to La Paz.

CruzinBears's avatar

...the $170 is international fees required by Mexico IIRC and other people can speak to the flight costs better, but I've heard TJ to La Paz can be as cheap as ~$70 each way

GoldenSD81's avatar

I’m flying to La Paz, Mexico. I find it to be easy and every time I've flown out of TJ it has been cheaper.

GB III's avatar

You can walk to TJ airport after crossing the boarder? How far is it?

GoldenSD81's avatar

Yep, it’s very close. They built a sky bridge so you walk above the border and then walk right into the TJ airport. It’s called Cross Border Crossing (CBX) and they built it about a decade ago and it has been a huge success for cross border travel. It’s in Otay Mesa, so just east of the San Ysidro port of entry. It’s super easy and convenient.

I'm disappointed that I can't drive my Miata or my Acura since I tore my Achilles. I'm guessing probably for about 3 months.

FiatSlug's avatar

That sucks.

Hope you recover soon.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I think Miss Daisy finally passed away...give Morgan Freeman a call. He can take you to the store.

heyalumnigo's avatar

I guess you missed that I tore my achilles last Wed night playing basketball and had surgery Fri morning.

TheBuckeyeBear's avatar

I did miss that. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Going to try to grow thyme, rosemary, basil, parsley and chives at home this spring.

What? No sage?

Well not test but what I had for lunch, was a great, fantastic dinner my wife made for dinner Sunday - Asian (mainly Chinese) pork ribs minus any bones - so awesome.

Mando! Season 3, Episode 5 - Andor is a much better television show, but Mandalorian is a richer Star Wars show. And Tim Meadows!

g.oso's avatar

With a Star Wars Rebels crossover!

Terence's avatar

He looked really good live-action.

Even though the shot was already spoiled in the season trailer - the mandos all dropping out of the drop ship into attack was bad-ass.

The 65th Street Session: Chris Thile, Madison Cunningham, and Jacob Collier

https://nyphil.org/concerts-tickets/2223/65th-street-mar-28

i didnt realize i was in for such a musical treat last night when someone had an extra ticket to this and invited me.

the music was anything but mainstream or classical at all, but it was amazing.

also, the new Geffen hall is very nice, modern, nice wood tones everywhere

Scootie's avatar

Chris Thile is so great. I absolutely love the Goat Rodeo Sessions with Yo Yo Ma et al.

I hear Zava is coming.

Terence's avatar

I wasn't in on his storyline at all . .. until he showed up. He's fucking hilarious.

Cugel's avatar

Latest Perry Mason was nice looking, but disappointing as a show, per plot.

Warriors looked like they were going to get run out of the gym in the 2nd Q. So many turnovers and Draymond doing Draymond things. Then they did their usual 3Q push and then extended the lead with Steph on the bench in the 4th.

*Sigh* 2023 MLB Power Rankings

30. Oakland Athletics

An unflinching refusal to spend money has left the Athletics roster resembling a mediocre Triple-A team, and Sean Murphy, Cole Irvin and A.J. Puk were the latest talented young players to be shown the door this offseason. They have a laughable projected payroll of $42.4 million and it will be a small miracle if they avoid 100 losses.

Need a GoFundMe campaign for the A's

heyalumnigo's avatar

But they were one of the most profitable teams in 2022.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2023/03/23/forbes-yankees-have-7-b-valuation-athletics-post-top-5-profit/11530150002/

Following as the fifth-highest profit in MLB, the Oakland Athletics finished the 2022 season with a 60-102 record, last in the American League and second worst in all of baseball. They still managed to rake in $62.2 million as the discussion of whether they will stay in the Bay Area continues. They are also one of the many teams at risk of having their television profits cut next year.

Has Mark Madsen been hired yet?

Oski Disciple's avatar

According to comments on the "main page" he would be a great/terrible/mediocre/okay/good hire. People love/hate Monty's supposed influence in the hire. Commenters hate/don't care that he went to Furd. He'll probably be good/okay/bad/whoknows at recruiting. Everyone acknowledges he's a step up from our last two head coaches.

goldenone's avatar

Have not seen anything. It would behoove the Bears to make it official asap.

Terence's avatar

He's got a baby due ANYTIME NOW - so I suspect next week.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

They've had 3 babies already...he can miss this one.

I want him out on the recruiting trail, working the portal which has been opened for 2 weeks.

;-)

Terence's avatar

Well I guess I was late! He's on the job now.

goldenone's avatar

Kind of hard to balance the baby and a big career change at the same time. When my first was born I got a big promotion at work the same week. But since it's his fourth I am sure he knows what he's doing by now.
