I am in day two of a four day journey back from East Jesusville to my house. I am ready for clean laundry, my own bed, my cat, and the ability to shower with my mouth open.
the one where you keep looping back over and over again till you are sure there is no way it will come undone .. not based on any actual knot tying principle.
particularly good for the Xmas tree on the roof rack or the food sack in the tree to keep away from bears.
I thought it was bowline. At least that's what cub scouts age me remembers. It was taught as the knot you make if someone throws you a line to rescue you from the water.
BERKELEY – Trailing 8-1 in the seventh inning Carson Crawford slugged his fourth home run of the year and woke up the Cal baseball team's quiet bats. The Golden Bears rallied to score six runs in the final three innings to put a scare into No. 9 Stanford. Unfortunately, the epic rally came up just short with the Cardinal holding on to take game one of this three-game series 8-7 on Thursday night at Stu Gordon Stadium.
Cal (12-13, 3-10 Pac-12)) finished the night with nine hits, three of them home runs. It also got a tremendous pitching performance from freshman Robert Aivazian who threw a career-best five complete innings to keep the Bears in the game.
BERKELEY – California track & field kicked off the first of three days of competition on Thursday at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, completing five events in the men's decathlon and four in the women's heptathlon at a sometimes-sunny, sometimes-chilly Edwards Stadium.
Currently, Oregon's Nathan Poff stands atop the decathlon standings at 3672 points, while the Ducks' Colleen Uzoekwe leads the way in the heptathlon with 3541 points.
SEATTLE – The California softball game scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at No. 10 Washington has been postponed due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Friday.
The Golden Bears and Huskies will now meet for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch in game one of the series and game two will remain a 6 p.m. start on Friday. The first game will be carried on Washington Live Stream 2 with the second game airing on Pac-12 Washington.
BERKELEY – The No. 9 California beach volleyball team is set for a weekend of competitive matches at the Pac-12 North Invitational. The Golden Bears will face four Pac-12 teams, with matches against No. 4 UCLA and No. 13 Washington on Friday and Arizona State and host No. 10 Stanford on Saturday.
The Bears are currently riding a six-match win streak having swept Cal Poly's Mustang Invitational last weekend and hold an 18-5 record. The Bruins come into the tournament at 22-2, having won 13 of their 14 contests. The Bears and Huskies (12-10) will meet for the third time in a month, with Cal winning both of the previous meetings 4-1. The Sun Devils enter the weekend at an even 7-7 and the Cardinal boasts a 17-6 record. It will be the second meeting of the season between Cal and Stanford, with the Bears winning the Big Spike at home 3-2 in March.
BERKELEY – The No. 1 California men's rowing team will have a busy weekend as it will host the Pac-12 and Ebright Invitationals in the Bay Area on Saturday and Sunday. Cal will be looking for a repeat of last year's results when it swept every race across both events.
The Pac-12 Invitational will be streamed on the Cal Live Stream. Fans are encouraged to follow Cal men's rowing on Twitter for live results and can visit Row2K for complete results at the conclusion of each day.
The Pac-12 Invitational, co-hosted by Stanford, will take place at Redwood Shores in Redwood City and feature Cal's top two boats along with the 3V and freshman crews, which will compete in select races. This will be Cal's toughest test of the early season as all six schools competing are ranked within the top 15 of the IRCA/IRA Men's Heavyweight Varsity 8+ Poll. Each school will compete in a series of duals, with the Bears' V8+ and 2V8+ scheduled to face Boston University, Northeastern and Syracuse. The 3V8+ and freshman will face Wisconsin. Last year, the Bears defeated Boston, Northeastern, Oregon State and Wisconsin.

The Golden Bears (16-6, 2-1) ended their first two-game skid of the season on Sunday, defeating No. 12 Pacific on the road 14-6 behind 10 saves from senior goalkeeper Isabel Williams, a hat trick by sophomore Rozanne Voorvelt and multi-goal efforts from three other Bears. Cal's penultimate regular-season road outing comes against a Spartan side that has yet to defeat an MPSF team this year.
BERKELEY – USA Water Polo announced on Thursday that California women's water polo head coach Coralie Simmons – who has built one of the most decorated careers in the sport over the past two and a half decades – will be one of five members making up the 39th induction class of the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame.
One of the great trailblazers of the women's water polo world, Simmons boasts one of the most impressive resumes in the sport as both a player and coach.
College football recruiting expenses by conference: SEC stands out as Georgia spends big for success in 2022 [Note Cal's expenditure was surprisingly high]
The A’s have completed their first homestand of the 2023 season and are sitting at 2-4 after winning just one game per three-game series, first against the Angels, then against the Guardians. Both series came down to the third game, and the A’s offense showed positive momentum. After scoring just three runs in as many games against the Angels, the bats came alive and produced 19 runs in the series against Cleveland.
The maddening San Francisco Giants offense, who supported 9 walks with just 4 hits (only one coming with runners in scoring position) and a near 50 percent K-rate yesterday, came to the park and slugged out 16 runs on 20 hits and 5 home runs against the Chicago White Sox in the series rubber match.
The onslaught tied a franchise record of 13 for most home runs in a 3-game series. The previous record: Giants playing the Milwaukee Braves in April, 1961.
It took until his 13th inning for Dustin May to allow his first run of the season, but the Dodgers offense provided plenty of support for the right-hander in a 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday night at Chase Field in Phoenix.
May followed up his gem last Friday at Dodger Stadium — when he threw seven scoreless innings in the longest start of his career — with another solid outing Thursday. He kept Arizona off the board through five innings, and retired nine straight batters before opening the sixth with a four-pitch walk and a double ripped by Josh Rojas to the right field wall for May’s first run allowed in 2023.
Creepy movies.
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?
Bette Davis, Joan Crawford. Great performances by both Davis and Crawford.
That is all.

Wow. It's the last phrase that strikes an image. Good Golly, Miss Molly!

I can also do a square knot and might be able to remember how to do a bowline if I really try.
Bowlin knot? I learned like 7 knots when I took sailing lessons in Hawaii. Can't remember them very well, though.
Pronounced like BOW-lin. Spelled like bowline.

I was riding on the Mayflower
When I thought I spied some land
I yelled for Captain Arab
I have yuh understand
Who came running to the deck
Said, “Boys, forget the whale
Look on over yonder
Cut the engines
Change the sail
Haul on the bowline”
We sang that melody
Like all tough sailors do
When they are far away at sea

If you want to see 1/3rd of Korea de-populated, Kill Boksoon is an excellent 2 hours of entertainment. Lots of female John Wick vibes 18/19 WB
HBO - Succession
decided to watch pilot episode after hearing about it for so long. good, but predictable.
i get bored easily i have realized, so we'll see how far i make it ..
My sister watches the show and raves about it. I have yet to view it.
Episode 1 of The Night Agent on Netflix is in the books….toight, like a tiger. We’ll see where it goes…
I got up to E3, I think, and am already kinda tired of it. Granted it’s a diff vibe, but Slow horses much more interesting. And much better acting.
I got through it, its moderately entertaining but the main actors are B level at best and the writing is pretty cliche. 10/19 WB if drunk
Given those hurdles, it’s definitely gonna need the B-level holy trinity to maintain my interest. Not expecting to finish.
