She does have a valid excuse though since SpaceX exploded a rocket 1mi from their launch pad (the one that had the facebook satellite on top) without giving a warning to the JPL team that was working on their pad. They needed to have a 4mi radius cleared to explode the rocket and ignored that. Her team was lucky that the winds were in their favor or their entire team would have been in jeopardy (they had 18 employees on the pad and only 14 of the masks that would have been needed to save their lives)

I wonder if they didn't explode on purpose, since there was a payload, but maybe not giving enough notice of having a pressure test so other launch sites could clear out? I think SpaceX does, or used to, a pressure test X days before launch.

South to the Bay would take me to Oyster Bay or Marina Park in San Leandro, which would also probably be pretty decent. All the way to the Pacific would be near Natural Bridges in Santa Cruz, which would be great.
North to an ocean-adjacent body of water would land me in or around Seattle, which sounds good. All the way to an ocean would be way up in the icy-cold Northwest Territories of Canada, near a place called Paulatuk. Probably not much fun, unless you're really interested in native Inuit culture.
East (if we're bypassing all lakes and rivers) to the Atlantic would be around Newport News or Virginia Beach. Visiting the latter would not be bad.
I do all the time. I am just across the Potomac from the National Mall so if I head east toward the ocean I'm visiting the Smithsonian Museums, National Gallery of Art. Nats Park is pretty much in line too. All within just a couple miles. Forgot to add the Kennedy Center in there too.

There are no extra tactics with no-DH, there are fewer tactics.
Every time you pinch hit for the pitcher in the late innings it's an obvious choice. Every double switch is even an obvious choice. These are not difficult tactical decisions - they are obvious and every high school coach would make them the same way as an MLB manager.
What is more difficult - not less - for a manager to decide on is whether your pitcher has one more batter left in him, or whether to stick with the lefty in a bad match-up when the next part of the order after that guy all bat left. Or whether to pinch hit based on the match-up with the pitcher.
With no DH, a lot of those actually tough decisions are taken out of the manager's hand.

TBS or Fox Sports (forgot which did the NL that year) did this once with Justin Turner while in the field and talked with him between pitches. That was shut down real quick when he had to tell them to give him a sec so he could get ready for the pitch.
They had the game on at Duke's seafood but with CC so I couldn't tell if he was talking during the pitch or not. But I guess postseason games have much more on the line.
He would...and there's no doubt that Votto seems like a real likable guy, and was funny...that really helped, as did having Ozzie Albies on at 1st after a basehit.
This is like 2008 and 2016 when we had to start all new at WR position with departure of stud WRs.
In 2008 we started with Sean Young and Lareylle Cunningham but they did absolutely nothing. Ended the season with Ross, Tucker and Boateng. In 2016 Chad Hansen emerged. It helped that we had veteran QBs in both situations, but this year we are uncertain at QB. There is always excitement of who is going to breakthrough.
To be fair, it is a complicated system and often there were execution errors. A bit tough to rank him last, but then again we showed no signs of life on offense when Chase wasn't on the field improvising. viz..., Arizona loss.
I actually finally just read the article (only after extensively commenting about it). That Matrix Analytical guy was including the head coach in the equation so its not purely objective about the OC, and is also an indictment on Wilcox.
It's only tough for me to argue because I know close to nothing about the other playcallers in the conference. But I'm sure there are some fans of those teams who could argue that their's is the worst!
So Gene, agreed...I also think it's tough because the OC really can only control so much, right? He can't actually execute the plays. Kinda like Fox in hoops - he can't make a layup for the big man. There's plenty of evidence that the players struggled to make plays when they were definitely there to be made, with Moore's fumble at UW and Nikko's dropped TD in Eugene just some unfortunate examples.
That said, he arguably should be #12, at least if we're ranking from last year, based on the loss in Tucson and the general lack of production. Man, an OC has to be able to produce a game plan to win that game against one of the worst P5 football teams in recent memory, even with the COVID issue. The complexity of Musgrave's little "Pro-style offense" is my main concern...these are college kids, and pro-style offenses usually need professional players to properly execute. With the dearth of NFL talent on the the offensive side of the ball, as evidenced by the lack of Wilcox offensive players that end up playing on Sundays, maybe a more gimmicky type of scheme would lead to more points, and more wins. Something like Sonny's Air Raid, which the kids could learn in a matter of weeks, not years.
If this O could ever just be an average, top 8 P12 O, you're looking at 7-8 wins per year, easy...and that's one way you build a program.
Until Cal starts getting professional type players from a talent perspective, either on the OL but especially at the skill positions, it's probably fair to wonder if Musgrave's pro-style O is ever going to yield consistent success.
I generally agree, and I'm not sure what influence Wilcox has had on the offense. It sure looked like he was the one forcing that conservative style of preserving the fledgling lead, and it also looks like he's had pretty firm control over the QB situation. I was very suspicious when Glover got named QB2 basically the second he stepped on campus, particularly after Zach Johnson had arguably the best Spring out of anyone. Which leads to RE: the nightmare that was Glover @ AZ. I think the QB was the sole reason we lost that game, and I'm assuming that was 100% a Wilcox decision.
We do appear to have some talent now taking over at starting positions at WR and TE, and there's things to like about the RB committee, so I really cant wait to see what this offense looks like post Garbers (and even post-Remigio) which felt like a decade.
All said, I've been squarely neutral on Wilcox for a while, and now Musgrave, for the unfortunate reason of having lowered my expectations for the program and becoming content with mediocrity..
Would be nice if he elaborated on why Musgrave is dead last. I never got as frustrated as others about play calling specifically, but more that we were handcuffed by Chase and the receivers' inability to execute. Even the Nevada game when went away from the run, which is probably what's ingrained in many of the anti-'gravers out there. But at some point you need to have a passing game. The Oregon State game was kind of that outlier where you could see Musgrave's offense working, when the QB+WRs actually execute. I'm somewhat neutral on the 'grave, and waiting to see with the new QB and receiving corps can do.

Given the $6M price tag of 1314 Arch St. (~6,200 sq ft)., I wonder why anyone would pay $4M for 1271 Spruce St ~2,500 sq ft). The $/sq. ft. at 1271 Spruce St. is about 65% *higher* than 1314 Arch St. And the two properties were sold about one month apart. 1314 Arch St has the better views, is on a quieter street, and probably has the better backyard.
It's a mystery to me why 1271 Spruce Street sold for as much as it did.
I bought my house last year at $875k and a house nearby with the exact same floor plan but 100 square feet smaller and on a smaller lot just sold for $1.15. I could probably sale my house right today for $1.25.
My brother and sister in law checked on pricing on some new builds across a main road from where they are now in the Portland suburbs - wasn't strictly what / where they had in mind, but came with some upside for schools etc. Someone somehow managed to get in the mix to jack up the prices from the builders so they're still on the rental train for the time being - their down payment was on target for 2.5 years ago but they can't keep up with the market.
There is a good Sway episode about it. I think it may be good actually as he will be able to keep Elliott Mgmt (Wall Street activist investor) at bay for a bit. Musk is a blowhole, but as to providing direction for a tech co, he is preferable IMO to a bunch of Wall Street quants

This is like 2008 and 2016 when we had to start all new at WR position with departure of stud WRs.
In 2008 we started with Sean Young and Lareylle Cunningham but they did absolutely nothing. Ended the season with Ross, Tucker and Boateng. In 2016 Chad Hansen emerged. It helped that we had veteran QBs in both situations, but this year we are uncertain at QB. There is always excitement of who is going to breakthrough.
How many push-ups can Nyan Boateng do though?

To be fair, it is a complicated system and often there were execution errors. A bit tough to rank him last, but then again we showed no signs of life on offense when Chase wasn't on the field improvising. viz..., Arizona loss.
I actually finally just read the article (only after extensively commenting about it). That Matrix Analytical guy was including the head coach in the equation so its not purely objective about the OC, and is also an indictment on Wilcox.

Tough to argue.
It's only tough for me to argue because I know close to nothing about the other playcallers in the conference. But I'm sure there are some fans of those teams who could argue that their's is the worst!
So Gene, agreed...I also think it's tough because the OC really can only control so much, right? He can't actually execute the plays. Kinda like Fox in hoops - he can't make a layup for the big man. There's plenty of evidence that the players struggled to make plays when they were definitely there to be made, with Moore's fumble at UW and Nikko's dropped TD in Eugene just some unfortunate examples.
That said, he arguably should be #12, at least if we're ranking from last year, based on the loss in Tucson and the general lack of production. Man, an OC has to be able to produce a game plan to win that game against one of the worst P5 football teams in recent memory, even with the COVID issue. The complexity of Musgrave's little "Pro-style offense" is my main concern...these are college kids, and pro-style offenses usually need professional players to properly execute. With the dearth of NFL talent on the the offensive side of the ball, as evidenced by the lack of Wilcox offensive players that end up playing on Sundays, maybe a more gimmicky type of scheme would lead to more points, and more wins. Something like Sonny's Air Raid, which the kids could learn in a matter of weeks, not years.
If this O could ever just be an average, top 8 P12 O, you're looking at 7-8 wins per year, easy...and that's one way you build a program.
Until Cal starts getting professional type players from a talent perspective, either on the OL but especially at the skill positions, it's probably fair to wonder if Musgrave's pro-style O is ever going to yield consistent success.
I generally agree, and I'm not sure what influence Wilcox has had on the offense. It sure looked like he was the one forcing that conservative style of preserving the fledgling lead, and it also looks like he's had pretty firm control over the QB situation. I was very suspicious when Glover got named QB2 basically the second he stepped on campus, particularly after Zach Johnson had arguably the best Spring out of anyone. Which leads to RE: the nightmare that was Glover @ AZ. I think the QB was the sole reason we lost that game, and I'm assuming that was 100% a Wilcox decision.
We do appear to have some talent now taking over at starting positions at WR and TE, and there's things to like about the RB committee, so I really cant wait to see what this offense looks like post Garbers (and even post-Remigio) which felt like a decade.
All said, I've been squarely neutral on Wilcox for a while, and now Musgrave, for the unfortunate reason of having lowered my expectations for the program and becoming content with mediocrity..
Would be nice if he elaborated on why Musgrave is dead last. I never got as frustrated as others about play calling specifically, but more that we were handcuffed by Chase and the receivers' inability to execute. Even the Nevada game when went away from the run, which is probably what's ingrained in many of the anti-'gravers out there. But at some point you need to have a passing game. The Oregon State game was kind of that outlier where you could see Musgrave's offense working, when the QB+WRs actually execute. I'm somewhat neutral on the 'grave, and waiting to see with the new QB and receiving corps can do.

Last night finished Rebels on Disney+ - solid Star Wars show, we've been watching 2 episodes a week. Favorite character: Hondo

Rebels is best watched, not as a completionist, but instead through someone else's curated lists - because at its heart it is a cartoon aimed at kids. So there's a bunch of filler episodes, but its my second favorite Favreau/Filoni series.
Not yet, watching that next.

Bay Area Real Estate
I bought a house in south bay in 2014 for 950k. Sold in 2021 for 1.5M. (but profit went right into the next house). Today's zillow price is 2.2M.
So... a little while ago someone was surprised that a gorgeous 6,000 sq. ft. mansion sold for a million plus over asking (as if that's even a thing): a house at 1271 Spruce St in Berkeley sold for 4 Mil, basically a piece of crap that had some nice additions, zero views, that we wouldn't even pay list price (1.7 IIRC)

Coincidentally, 1271 Spruce St. is also within a stone's throw (maybe slightly more distant) of Casa de Slug.
Also within a stone's throw of Casa de Slug is a house (2241 Glen Ave.) undergoing what can accurately be called total reconstruction. I expect it to go on the market when it's finished. Gawd only knows what that property's listing and sales price will be.
Also not that far from the goldenone pad.

Given the $6M price tag of 1314 Arch St. (~6,200 sq ft)., I wonder why anyone would pay $4M for 1271 Spruce St ~2,500 sq ft). The $/sq. ft. at 1271 Spruce St. is about 65% *higher* than 1314 Arch St. And the two properties were sold about one month apart. 1314 Arch St has the better views, is on a quieter street, and probably has the better backyard.
It's a mystery to me why 1271 Spruce Street sold for as much as it did.
Also, the old part of the house is pretty crappy, whereas Arch looked like a jewel.

I bought my house last year at $875k and a house nearby with the exact same floor plan but 100 square feet smaller and on a smaller lot just sold for $1.15. I could probably sale my house right today for $1.25.
My brother and sister in law checked on pricing on some new builds across a main road from where they are now in the Portland suburbs - wasn't strictly what / where they had in mind, but came with some upside for schools etc. Someone somehow managed to get in the mix to jack up the prices from the builders so they're still on the rental train for the time being - their down payment was on target for 2.5 years ago but they can't keep up with the market.
I saw a 650 sq ft tear down (basically a horder's shed) on a small lot right next to the 2 freeway listed for $679k, absolutely bonkers
I just checked the price of my parents home on Zillow - it is 3x what they paid for it in 2010.
My parents is up ~4x since 98 but there was that whole real estate collapse that probably stalled the growth a bit

There is a good Sway episode about it. I think it may be good actually as he will be able to keep Elliott Mgmt (Wall Street activist investor) at bay for a bit. Musk is a blowhole, but as to providing direction for a tech co, he is preferable IMO to a bunch of Wall Street quants
