Right on, Scootie. I appreciate the sentiment and the perspective.

I'd love it if Bauer did just as you suggest, had an epiphany, became inspired to be a better human being, and worked on just that project. I might even gain some respect for him under those circumstances.

But bad humans tend to remain bad. So, I expect Bauer not to be introspective, not to have an epiphany, and not be inspired.

*sigh*

I second that. I used to live in Bordeaux, but I think if I went back I would go to Toulouse, is a bit bigger but not too big, and is a bit cleaner/prettier/nicer. It’s also a shorter hop from there to Germany/Swiss/Italy. The places you can go on a short weekend trip in Western Europe are mind boggling in variety, would be cool to be in a jumping off point. Boy, do I understand that.

This team was particularly close and the parents were definitely all in as well. The pain has hit home fast for just about everyone on that team.

This is not the first time death has touched this group. One of the fathers died of heart disease in January 2009, just a few months after the boys won the Northern California championship as 11 year olds. Fred's sudden death was devastating at the time. It still hurts to recall. He died way too young.

It was the Japanese nationals who seeded this idea many moons ago. I noticed that they would absolutely load up on green salad at the breakfast bar. Later, when I visited Japan - I was like "aha, salad IS breakfast food for them; and it's lettuce-based rather than cabbage, and it's 'free' rather than being crazy expensive." Ever since then, I eat salad for breakfast is there's any leftovers from dinner because it doesn't last. My wife thinks salad-for-breakfast is a bridge too far.

Bauer suspended for 2 years. Rest of 2022, all of 2023, and the first couple of months of 2024. He has appealed.

Los Angeles Dodgers' Trevor Bauer suspended for two seasons

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/33827168/los-angeles-dodgers-trevor-bauer-suspended-two-seasons

Major League Baseball announced a 324-game suspension for Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer on Friday, the equivalent of two full seasons, making it by far the most severe punishment handed out under the sport's domestic violence policy.

Bauer promptly released a statement announcing he was appealing the suspension, thus becoming the first player to appeal punishment through MLB's domestic violence policy.

"In the strongest possible terms, I deny committing any violation of the league's domestic violence and sexual assault policy," Bauer's statement read. I am appealing this action and expect to prevail. As we have throughout this process, my representatives and I respect the confidentiality of the proceedings."

The Giants were my NL team prior to '02, but that series made me draw a line in the sand. I really like those Roger Craig teams, and Candlestick had a very working class vibe. The A's crowds of the 80s and 90s were a little more suburban and I HATED those LaRussa squads (always an insurmountable barrier for some good, but not quite good enough Angel teams). That all switched with Pac Bell and the techies.
