What was your favorite restaurant when you were a child?

Expand full comment

We rarely ate out but when we did it was usually an all you can eat buffet. There was one on MacArthur in Fruitvale called George's that had a lot of Chinese food. Another in San Leandro but I can't remember the name.

I absolutely respect your knowledge, C. I'm just not a fan of Mac. Patently disobeying orders and trying to start WWIII was a bad look. While he definitely did some good things in his career, IMO all in all he's just an incredibly overrated historical figure that, like Grant, achieved much of his military success by sacrificing massive numbers of his own men. Plus, he made a mess of the Philippines as well.

Athletics fall to the Mariners in 10 innings 7-2

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2023/5/3/23710745/athletics-mariners-sears-gilbert-ruiz-extra-innings

Game two with the A.L. West rivals kicked off an hour and five minutes late thanks to a day of rain in the bay area. After a longer than usual wait, A’s lefty J.P. Sears started for the A’s against righty Logan Gilbert for the Mariners. There is always a concern with weather delays that pitchers may have warmed up early cooled down and then ramped up the heat again, but both pitchers were sharp in their first innings.

In the top of the third, Mariners Shortstop J.P. Crawford reached on a Tony Kemp error. Jose Caballero singled, driving Crawford to third and taking second on the throw. Sears blew a fastball past Julio Rodriguez for the first out. Then did it again against Ty France for the second out of the inning. A fly out to right field got Sears out of his first jam of the night.

Logan Webb couldn’t quite pull off Disco’s 8 inning shut-out performance from last night, but he came close.

Tête-à-tête with Houston Astros starter Framber Valdez for 7 innings, Webb took the mound in the 8th against the bottom of the order and started to fray at the seams. The San Francisco Giants starter nearly skated free before his old foe, bad-breathed and foul Late-Game Homer, took the form of Alex Bregman and lifted a 2-out 2-run homer to put Houston within one run.

Max Muncy’s walk-off grand slam beats Craig Kimbrel, sweeps Phillies

https://www.truebluela.com/2023/5/3/23710395/max-muncy-walk-off-grand-slam-dodgers-phillies-craig-kimbrel

For a Dodgers fan base which endured numerous squandered opportunities by Craig Kimbrel to properly fulfill the closer role in 2022, it was poetic to wrap up a series sweep against the Phillies, with a Max Muncy walk-off grand slam against the right-hander.

Wednesday’s win was hard fought, as the Phillies scored the first five runs of the game, but hard work by the bullpen, and the offense one through nine was just enough, to drive this 10-6 win, ending a perfect homeland.

May 4, 2023·edited May 4, 2023Author

The GOP installed a Tulsi Gabbard-like mole in my state's senate. Recently, she ripped off her proverbial mask and switched parties to the GOP. The GOP was only one seat away from a super-majority to overturn our Democratic governor's veto and now they have it. The irony is that the mole was from a super deep blue area, so she'll almost certainly be recalled. But before the DEMs can organize that, the GOP is ramming through every vile piece of legislation they can now. Ban abortion. No permits for concealed carry. And they just passed a bill that will make it illegal for minors to have any gender-affirming care - including hormone blockers. While the law will go into effect on Oct 1, after my kid turns 18, it will make what I did a criminal act. 80% of trans kids have thought about suicide and 42% have attempted it. My kid child had dark thoughts when he was a boy. My kid as a trans person is super well adjusted, happy, and optimistic. To those who want to force their interpretation of some iron-age scrolls on us to create a white Christian nation - GO FUCK YOURSELF - YOU'RE GOING TO GET A BUNCH OF US KILLED, YOU HEARTLESS SUPERSTITIOUS MOTHERFUCKERS.

Proud Boy Lose

Four members of the Proud Boys, including their former leader Enrique Tarrio, were convicted on Thursday of seditious conspiracy for plotting to keep President Donald J. Trump in power after his election defeat by leading a violent mob in attacking the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The jurors in the case failed to reach a decision on the sedition charge for one of the defendants, Dominic Pezzola, although he was convicted of other serious felonies.

The verdicts, coming after seven days of deliberations in Federal District Court in Washington, were a major blow against one of the country’s most notorious far-right groups and another milestone in the Justice Department’s vast investigation of the Capitol attack.
