25 million people live within a 60 mile radius of Popocatepetl volcano. An alert on the volcano was raised to "yellow phase 3" after smoke, ash, and molten rock started spewing in the sky. The next phases are Red phases 1-3 and then Brown pants level.

"Popocatepetl, which has not had a massive eruption in more than a millennium, became active again in 1994 and has seen periods of increased activity ever since."

Ominous is a word that comes to mind. I really, really hope everyone stays safe.

On May 13th, the Arlington Renegades upset the DC Defenders 35-26 to win the XFL championship. Renegades QB Luis Perez was named the MVP. Perez played JV football as a freshman and sophomore in high school and didn't play football the next two years. He walked on a Southwestern College in Chula Vista and was the NINTH string QB. Injuries, attrition, and hard-work moved Perez up to second string by the next year. The starter got injured and he started in week 3. He later transferred to a D2 school as a junior and did well enough to get looks at 9 different pro, alternative-pro, and semi-pro teams.

[Guardian] Remember when the Trump attorney Corcoran had his attorney/client priviledged pierced because the DOJ were quiet convinced that Corcoran was committing crimes. Well, the Guardian says that Corcoran knew that Trump was withholding classified documents from the FBI, Trump had his valet move records with Corcoran assisting in hiding documents, and all the evidence of this happening is now supported in Corcoran's notes. If true, Corcoran and Trump appear to be in definite trouble vis-a-vis the 1917 Espionage Act.

Expand full comment

Having read headlines of articles on calbears.com, I see nothing to indicate that a new play-by-play announcer has been named or hired.

One assumes that KGO will continue to broadcast Cal football, but even that isn't necessarily a given as what we knew as KGO effectively vanished last October with a big format change. Nearly everyone at the station was fired and all new staff was hired.

In fact, we won’t even be able to finish out the season as the lot will be closed after the USC game on October 28. [SB] Cal lost to Missouri on Friday (5-1) in the double-elimination round-robin regional, but then win their next two games vs. Hofstra (7-0) & Missouri (7-5) to set up a showdown vs. Oklahoma to see who advance. It was good while it lasted as the Bears predictably step into the buzzsaw of the Oklahoma offense, which batted around in the 1st and 3rd inning and were down 14-0 before Cal could come up to bat in the 3rd inning. Mercy ruled in the 5th inning, losing 16-3.

"The best thing that has happened is I receive a script that doesn’t describe the character as a Chinese or Asian-looking person. We are actors. We are supposed to act. We are supposed to step into roles that are given to us and do our job as best we can. That, for me, is the biggest step forward."
