Like 1.5x per week. Urban school with small play yard. City field next door, which they rent several times per week. But that’s to cover like 8 grades. Granted I grew up in the burbs – not that far from HSB and HAG – but it seems such a small amount.
No. I want to say it was 1 to 2 days a week, most likely 1. No 1 went to St Elizabeths (around 1999-2003) in Oakland and maybe he had it a couple of days a week. In Louisville for 5th grade and on it was once a week I think (Catholic school). No 2 and 3 were definitely once a week.
I wish! It’s just 2x a week and not so much by design as by the fact that they don’t have the money for a full time PE teacher so in our district the PE teachers cover multiple elementary schools. Also the PE teachers’ salaries are funded entirely by donations from parents, and we have been getting desperate emails from the school district about how the donations are a bit low so they may have to let one of the PE teachers go. Prop 13, baby!!! What a stroke of genius. When these kids become overweight and diabetic and need to go on meds, who will pay for that?
By the way, I this is just one manifestation of a failure begging for a reframing of how we think of kids. Currently, our government views them simply as a liability on the balance sheet, and so the focus is just on cost control. In reality, our citizenry is our biggest asset, and we need think of spending on childhood education as an investment that (a) will pay dividends in the future, and (b) is necessary to compete with other countries in an increasingly globalized and competitive landscape.
yes, 10th grade they still do. but they dont have to do anything physical if they dont want to!
also, it is just "go play basketball" as opposed to any sort of organized effort around playing or learning basketball.
i had PE thru 11th grade and it was graded HARD. i got B's in PE all thru high school because of all the various forms of athletic achievement (or lack thereof). and it was certainly from no lack of trying ...
As I look back, PE is where I realized I kind of liked and was decent at running. I can remember both in junior high and in HS the PE teacher getting pissed off at us and making us run all period. It never bothered me.
In the middle of PT. Just came back from it. Sore but getting a bit stronger. Still can't lift my heal with my body weight. But it's only been about 10 weeks since surgery.
Physical coming up on Thursday. I lost 20 pounds of fat on advise from my last physical six months ago and put on about 10 pounds of muscle since then, but I suspect that I will still get a chin wagging about my blood work. I mean, he won't be wrong. I enjoy pork way more than I should.
We had Schintzel steaks last week, covered with thin layer of bread crumbs, fried with a thin layer of oil, eaten with a super tasty flavored sour cream thing, and purple cabbage & apple salad to go with it.
1 - annual physical today, probably high cholesterol, etc etc
2 - surgical procedure tomorrow getting metal plates taken out of collarbone from cycling injury last year. probably a week of recovery and 3 wks before working out again.
Was at the Giants game Friday night. Before first pitch was explaining to a Japanese student about splash hits and how the Giants have hit 99 in their 23 plus years in the park. A few minutes later Lamond Wade Jr. hit the 100th.
Agreed! And they have beaten some really good teams to get here! Bucks and Celtics were arguably the two top teams in the East. It’s not like they got lucky with match ups, as sometimes happens
As an Arsenal fan (for many decades) I deeply resent and am angered by this remark. Arsenal supporters are among THE BEST in England, far outshining the yobs at such places as ManU, Chelsea, Millwall, Leeds, Newcastle and other clubs followed by neanderthals. Arsenal itself is a relatively progressive clubs in such areas as its early embrace of players of color and from other countries, it's support of LGBTQ fans etc.
Leeds had a bad rep back in the day. All the teams had their "firms". I wouldve put Millwalll and West Ham as the most notorious but they ALL had baddies. I was bemused to see fond remembrances from older Oxford United fans about their days in the "South Midland Hit Squad" and causing various opponent firms to "run". Quite the culture...
Sorry. It was meant to be a joke. I don't think badly of Arsenal fans, nor do I doubt their efforts for positive social impact. Jokes are more impactful when they are specific, so I googled "who are the worst fans in the EPL" and multiple articles came up Arsenal - so I ran with it. So, you have my apology at my glib drive-by hack.
Fully accepted. I tend to over-react and be a drama queen. Surprised that Arsenal fans would come up. Within England the clubs I mentioned along with Wet Ham and Stoke have the worst reputations. BTW I could tell you stories about my encounters with opposing fans while living in England in the seventies and my encounters in my many visits over the years including last month. some other time....
Saw boygenius yesterday at Stanford's Frost Pavilion - great show, Lucy, Phoebe and Julien are having so much fun. Each of them did a solo song from their own discography as well.
The Diplomat (Netflix, 16/19 WB). Finished the series. Very well acted, engaging story line, and smartly written. It's not perfect, but it's a tidy little first season. I am looking forward to S2.
Yes, I quite enjoyed that show - watched an episode of Transatlantic last night - which is ok, not quite a great show, but set in France in 1940, so I'm kind of sucker in wanting it to be good.

UPDATE: The pool boy drained the pool in October 2022 at Mar A Lago and it ruined all the backup tapes at Mar A Lago. I, for one, totally think this is not suspicious at all - just a beautiful, perfect coincidence. Ask anybody.
Rep Boebert missed the debt ceiling vote and caught flak for it despite rumors that she just plain old missed it because she was tardy. She then doubled down that she skipped it as a protest. Stanford softball got to the 9th inning with Oklahoma tied 9-9. . . then Oklahoma got two more runs across. Oklahoma softball has now won 51 games in a row.
I wore my Cal soccer jersey to the gym. Got a favorable reaction from a guy at the gym because he father went to Cal. It wasn't a "Go Bears!", but I'll take it.
Saturday morning I did my usual stop at the farmer's market. One of the booths had a young woman working it wearing a Cal hat. I stopped and talked to her and she's an incoming freshman. Said she was going to study international relations. Go Bears.
100!
Parents of the DBD: do/did your kids have PE every day?

I just heard a story on the radio that Alexandria, Virginia may have teachers of PE, music, and art have to cover more than one school in the future.
Yup, our music teachers all cover more than one school. We have no art teachers

No. 1 semester of PE in four years of HS.
yes, 10th grade they still do. but they dont have to do anything physical if they dont want to!
also, it is just "go play basketball" as opposed to any sort of organized effort around playing or learning basketball.

It definitely wasn't like when we were in school. We had it every day and it rotated sports every 2-3 weeks.
As I look back, PE is where I realized I kind of liked and was decent at running. I can remember both in junior high and in HS the PE teacher getting pissed off at us and making us run all period. It never bothered me.
plus during block scheduling we go extra long periods to actually get good at something.

As of last month our doctor's office no longer requires face masks. After three years, it feels weird not wearing one in a medical setting.
how is achilles recover @HAG?
In the middle of PT. Just came back from it. Sore but getting a bit stronger. Still can't lift my heal with my body weight. But it's only been about 10 weeks since surgery.
Dead, apparently.
Foot surgery next month. Nothing major. Miss a day of work, wear a "boot" for two weeks than good to go back to the gym.
They put something in my blood today, takes at least a half hour.
Pork doesn't have to be bad for you.
You've eaten pork several times with me, Cugel. Are you surprised?
We had Schintzel steaks last week, covered with thin layer of bread crumbs, fried with a thin layer of oil, eaten with a super tasty flavored sour cream thing, and purple cabbage & apple salad to go with it.
Tasted very very good, and not at all unhealthy.
Cabbage and apple salad. Sounds healthy to me.
Also, not all fried, that then roasted on a metal grid in the oven to finish.
Bad for the pigs who get slaughtered for it, also bad for the environment.
No where near cows 1/5 vs. 1/13
2 appts this week
1 - annual physical today, probably high cholesterol, etc etc
2 - surgical procedure tomorrow getting metal plates taken out of collarbone from cycling injury last year. probably a week of recovery and 3 wks before working out again.
Turns out I have a lot of ear wax
I'm guessing dry ear wax? I think Asians are dry ear wax.
I didn't realize plates were later removed after recovery from a broken collarbone. Good luck with the surgery!
they said i can keep them in if i wanted. however there is a pesky little screw head that is right where a backpack strap would be.
normal backpacks are mostly fine, but a hiking or backpacking type weight would be long term annoying.
Got a physical today too. Being over 50 now means the doc will talk colonoscopy, I'm sure.
oh right. i got to ask about that too. but only because it has been 2 years already.
All went well and I lost 18 pounds since my last visit, so lost all the COVID weight and then some.
