My favorite suit is gone!

I might have accidentally put it in the donation bin.

We are going to a wedding in FL this weekend so I need to get a new one quick.

Comfortable shoes

heyalumnigo's avatar

My latest running shows, the Adidas Ultra Boost, are very comfortable. I had been team Nike because almost every pair I've had were super comfortable, but No 1 said I should try the Ultraboosts and they indeed are super comfortable.

BentPawn(Don)'s avatar

I've tried these before falling in love with Nike Flex about 5 years ago, and thought they were to rigid on the soles. How do they feel on your feet? I like some of the color combos they have over Nike and may give them a try again.

heyalumnigo's avatar

They feel good. I have a pair of Flex's (?), I think they are. Super lightweight with a similar heel. I wear them daily but seem to be uncomfortable if I wear them a long time or walk a long way in them.

The ultraboosts are much more comfortable, maybe because the soles are much thicker?

BentPawn(Don)'s avatar

Maybe that's the difference and personal preference. I really like the thinner and bendy soles on the Flex. Thank you for the feedback.

BentPawn(Don)'s avatar

Nike Flex line. I could live in these.

Cole Haan Zerogrand Wingtips. It's an earlier version. Super light. Really airy. I've worn them for year and without fail, I get a compliment on them every single time I wear them out in public.

Good old fashioned Converse Jack Purcells (the old style that has the blue soles that they don't make anymore). I've just about worn mine out and I have some new ones to replace them and I'm dreading the idea that they might be different enough to make them not perfect.

CruzinBears's avatar

Rainbow sandals are the most comfortable that I've found. For running shoes Asics Gel Ventures have been my go to for over a decade now. Sperrys are the best boat shoe I've found. And Vans high tops are great everyday walking around shoes for me.

Cugel's avatar

The Reebok Nano x1 are quite comfortable.

She is in my top 5 I would like to see go to jail.

Cugel's avatar

eh, It really should only be Trump, Eastman, and any other plotters of 1/6

GoldenSD81's avatar

Doesn’t that article show that she was an active plotter to overthrow the election results as well. She may not have been plotting 1/6 but she was plotting a different route to subvert a free and fair election.

My top 5:

Trump

Eastman

Guiliani

Meadows

Ginni

Cugel's avatar

She was a supporter of the plot to be sure, but I don't think she helped to organize the attack on the Capitol. Which to me is the real crime.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I agree she didn’t help organize the attack on the Capitol but I believe trying to seat illegitimate state electors is also a crime.

I acknowledge the mockworthy notion of Liz Cheney as a principled defender of democracy given who her dad is, but man, her presentation was really good and her line about how Trump will be gone but your dishonor will remain was excellent

GoldenSD81's avatar

I agree with all of this.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I thought it was well done but I am not their target audience. Hopefully the few moderates or independents saw this because conservatives/GQP/fox viewers sure didn’t watch this and if they do they probably wont find it compelling or convincing.

Down by 2, Two outs, man on second, 1-2 count - Tony LaRussa calls for an IBB against Trea Turner. It comes back to haunt LaRussa as Muncy promptly smacks a HR. LaRussa defends himself saying that Turner is great with two strikes against him vs. LHP. Data shows that LaRussa is wrong (0.261 avg). Doyers win 11-9.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Counterpoint…Muncy isn’t healthy, has been awful all year and was in his 1st game back from a 2-week IL stint, which he finished up by being awful in a brief rehab visit to AAA Ok City.

I’m no fan of LaRussa’s, but if you’re trying to keep the deficit at 2, I’d definitely rather roll the dice with Muncy v. the LHP than Turner. With 2 strikes tho, maybe see if you can get him to chase rather than the free pass. If Sousa throws 4 straight outta the strike zone & walks him “unintentionally” instead of the IBB, it’s a non-story.

goldenone's avatar

Not really surprised by this anymore. Also, note that the bats make infrequent contact, nobody is going to hit even 20 home runs, and Neuse faded away. I suppose Bethancourt, Laureano, and Pache offer the most promise. Murphy and Brown are OK but are not of the caliber of Olson and Chapman.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

You kinda get the feeling Farhan realized 2021’s 107-wins were unsustainably fluky with the players he had and did not go all in. Despite being valued at $3.5B, they were incredibly frugal in the offseason, signing 2nd tier guys that had question marks.

This is the result.

GoldenSD81's avatar

The giants are finally regressing to the giants we all expected in 2021.

sycasey's avatar

One of the lucky things about 2021 was relative good health. That hasn't happened this year; they're basically fielding lineups half full of Sacramento River Cats.

I'd expect things to improve if and when more players get healthy.

heyalumnigo's avatar

Except by the time more players get healthy, they may be out of it. Looks like the Padres are taking the place of the Giants this year.

sycasey's avatar

Out of it? They would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. Remember there are three wild cards now.

heyalumnigo's avatar

I'm not sure how the other divisions are doing. I assume the Cubs lead the East and the Phils are sucking since they fired Girardi. I forgot there are 3 WCs now.

GoldenSD81's avatar

The Pads are just living up to expectations from last season. Also a new and experienced manager is making a major difference. Actually the 2021 Pads were really good the first half of the season but fell off a cliff after the all star break.

Hopefully the Pads don’t have a repeat of 2021. Getting Tatis back for the second half of the season should help them sustain their success.

heyalumnigo's avatar

Except Tatis will dislocate his shoulder again and refuse to get surgery or go on the DL.

CruzinBears's avatar

Dubs are 4 point underdogs for Game 4, Steph says he's ready to go, Iggy and Robert Williams III listed as day-to-day. Williams has been dominating the paint so if he is hindered the Warriors have a much better shot. Bummed I won't be able to watch the game.

who am I to say, but those weights didn't look very big

O.Overall's avatar

Most are not but actually I think that is good. High weight and low rep training is not that great for anything other than competitive weight lifting. Lower weight and higher reps are better for football, I think, particularly in light of how grueling of an endurance challenge it can be.

FET: My work buddy, a fellow Cal grad, was a competitive weight lifter but now (early 40s) many of his joints are shot.

Finished We Own This City....sigh, Baltimore...

GoldenSD81's avatar

More like sigh at the “war on drugs”, broken police cultural and tactics, and our broken criminal Justice system.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Along with corruption at the highest level of government, poor leadership, and unmitigated poverty, that’s what makes it Baltimore...

GoldenSD81's avatar

All true but I feel if someone did a similar deep dive on any major metro PD or even the LA county sheriffs office they would find equally shocking amounts of problems similar to Baltimore.

The Wire could have easily taken place in any major US city.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Definitely any poor city, which begs the question - how do you measure the general wealth of a city?

Cugel's avatar

What did you think of the final episode?

heyalumnigo's avatar

we need spoiler tag support.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I thought it was good. It was sad to see Marlo take his life like that. I was confused why it is still considered an open homicide because didn’t he use his own service gun to shoot himself?

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

They said a “gun” was found under his right arm, with his walkie in his left...the cops mention that he didn’t drop it the walkie while “fighting” a suspect...maybe the other gun was a burner.

If it’s his own service weapon, it seems a pretty clear case.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Good point about the other gun probably being a burner.

Cugel's avatar

I liked most of it a lot, except the final episode seemed too editorial to me. Let me figure it out by myself.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I didn’t mind the editorial stuff only because it was based on a true story.

Terence's avatar

For All Mankind Season 3 premiered last night - so very much in for this season.

MoriBear's avatar

It was okay...seemed to cover (and resolve) too much. But I'm assuming its purpose is to set things up for the next 9 eps. Same as S2E1, which also didn't knock my socks off.

I like the (again) Margo callback.

And they have extra features available in ATV+, which are "here's the alt history that occurred", even tho they go thru it quickly at the beginning of the ep.

O.Overall's avatar

Excited as well. Mars, baby!!!

CruzinBears's avatar

The Mars sets were really cool to see in person. Hard to comprehend how many bricks had to be crushed to make the Mars dust.

O.Overall's avatar

You saw the sets? Do tell! Where is it filmed?

CruzinBears's avatar

My wife worked on S2 and S3 and I did a couple weeks of set dressing for S3. It’s filmed mainly on the Sony lot in Culver City. She did most of the dressing on the Mars science lab/rover and other surprises that I don’t want to spoil, so it’ll be fun to see her work.

O.Overall's avatar

Oh cool! You guys are what I call “real one percenters” in that you are among the 1% of population that actually has an interesting job that is fulfilling/enjoyable. I salute you from my little nook in the salt mines!

MoriBear's avatar

Just saw that. We (finally) got our visas for Japan a couple of days ago. (And our JP Pass vouchers arrived this morning!)

Leaving next Thursday, and purchased three covid test kits where you have a video call with a doctor during the testing process and they send you an official (hopefully negative) test report.

So, maybe don't need them. But will schlep them anyway, because who knows what'll happen over the next two months. Maybe the testing gets reinstated?

heyalumnigo's avatar

At first I thought you said you'll scalp them anyways.

heyalumnigo's avatar

But it's a good idea to bring them along, just in case.

MoriBear's avatar

maybe if don't need them, we will scalp them :-)

Justbear's avatar

That's great! I'm a Japanese citizen so I can go anytime, but have been waiting for the process to ease. Hopefully they get rid of requirements to enter Japan too.

MoriBear's avatar

For you, I don't think that there are any requirements now, beyond a test before the flight. But no test after landing, no quarantine at an airport hotel, etc. Just jump on the NEX and head into town (assuming that town in Tokyo). Do have do use the SOS app to register, perhaps?

My wife was born in Japan and became an American citizen about 10 years ago. Tried to get permission to visit as a Japanese citizen (or based on daughter being Japanese), then a visa for me as carry-on. But had to eventually say that she has two passports, which is verboten for Japan. Now we're all out of the family registry and everything!

And had to get "visiting family" visas, which took a fairly long time. Luckily we live in San Francisco where there is a consulate.

Hopefully in a few months, it'll just be like old times: Buy a ticket, go thru immigration, done!
