happy to just watch it bounce around now. initially i bought some just so i would "learn to play the game" but not interested in it as an investment or anything else, yet ...
The entire current active MLB roster combined has 500 CG with 144 pitchers taking 127,272 innings pitched to get there (>87 seasons worth of games). The guy who has the fastest pace of CG per innings pitched is Corey Kluber (out of pitchers with more than 100 IP). If Corey continued to do CG at that pace, he will tie Cy Young's mark shortly after his 237th birthday.
I mean, it would take an epic, epic season…like 50 some-odd consecutive appearances, but with these guys throwing harder and harder, and strikeouts so much bigger an issue, then who knows.
Did Hershiser give up any unearned runs in the streak at all, or ALL zeros?
I was gonna say that. I remember the last person to really threaten DiMaggio's record was Pete Rose in the summer of '78 (?). If Rose couldn't do it, there's no one now that could.

Out of the things currently listed, I think this might be most likely to be broken only because MLB is actively trying to change the game. a perfectly normal 300p flight from FLL > LGA gets delayed 5-6 hours and eventually cancelled. i dont think the rain or thunderstorms were particularly bad but the system seems particularly fragile right now.
stayed in FLL an extra night and took flight first Mon morning w/ minimal hassles. same thing happened on the way to Nashville 2 weeks ago but in that case it took away a full day from long weekend trip.

Max Verstappen just won the 2022 F1 Azerbaijan GP, following both Ferrari drivers exiting the race before the halfway point, increasing his lead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in the driver's championship. The Azerbaijan GP got off to an exciting start, with Red Bull's Sergio Perez jumping ahead of Leclerc, who started from P1, after he suffered an early lockup. However, Leclerc was able to not only hold off Red Bull's Verstappen but continue to create distance. Behind Verstappen, was Leclerc's Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz.
In lap nine, Carlos Sainz went off and crashed, suffering some sort of hydraulics failure. "Something has failed," said Sainz over the radio, as his day ended early in Azerbaijan. Sainz's crash caused a virtual safety car, which allowed Leclerc to pit for hard tires, dropping him to P3, leaving Max Verstappen in P2, who followed his teammate Sergio Perez in P1. However, team Red Bull told Perez to let Verstappen by and he did, giving Verstappen the lead.
By lap 17, Perez hit the pits, which allowed Leclerc to head into P2, behind Verstappen and gaining. Just two laps later, Verstappen headed into the pits, giving Leclerc the lead and some hope to break his several-week streak of bad luck. However, just another two laps after that, tragedy struck Leclerc yet again, as he suffered engine failure, ending his day in Azerbaijan in lap 21. “It hurts, we really want to look into it to see it doesn’t happen again. It’s really disappointing. We didn’t change too much, if anything to make it better. I have no news, I don’t know what’s going to happen.” said Leclerc after his exit.
With team Ferrari entirely out of the race, only team Mercedes posed a real threat to Red Bull, as George Russell in P3 threatened Perez in P2. Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton took P4 after passing AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly. However, Mercedes' car troubles continued, as the cars' bouncing issues were causing Hamilton serious back pain, which gave team Red Bull a comfortable lead.
Last season was more an aberration than anything else. F1 is back to one team dominating again...unless Perez pulls a Nico Rosberg and actually beat Verstappen in the end

Watched the film Contact last night. It has aged fairly well. I first saw it on Showtime in 1998. I had just quit my job working on the e-commerce strategy team at a Fortune 50 firm in favor of co-founding a start up web software company. It was unfunded at the time so I was pining in real life to find an S.R. Hadden type figure to back our harebrained idea.
Loved the wormhole to Vega scene and also the bit where Jodie Foster meets her Dad on the shore of a cosmic ocean. Ironically the inspiration to watch the film again was the speech by Matthew McConaughey about the Uvalde tragedy. McConaughey has a significant part in the film. As Carl Sagan's novel turned into film it is worthwhile...
People hated on it because of the ending, but that was one of my favorite things about it.
Having rewatched it recently, I like pretty much everything related to the discovery and investigation of the alien signal. I never buy that McConaughey and Jodie Foster have any romantic chemistry, though.
Roped into watching First Kill on Netflix, a soapy lesbian teen vampire romance that's only got about three bubbles in it. The cast is mostly decent but lifeless direction and incredibly inconsistent writing make it a very difficult watch. 3/19 WNB
Banged out a Kevin Kline comedy exacta this weekend with two circa 1990-classics on HBO/Showtime....Soapdish (1991) and A Fish Called Wanda (1988). Both are just fantastic...
Rewatched Michael Clayton - really did not appreciate how good Clooney was as a guy just stuck in a terrible situation with a job that he is excellent at but appears to hate.
The Best Actor race was really tough that year: Clooney in this, Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood (he won), also Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises. Any of those could have won the Oscar in a different year.
We had quite a good meal last night, Started with a NV Rose Champagne - my fave - had Moroccan meatballs, with Taboulleh and cucumber yogurt salad w/Tahini & lemon - paired with what I think is the best Chateauneuf du Pape I've ever had: 2015 Saint Cosme.

i like this movie a lot. thought provoking and very well done in terms of the drama of building the alien communication device

The thing is that you could make this movie without any romantic subplot and it would be fine. The whole thing feels a bit forced.
The ending was very good and the whole movie is excellent.
Contact is so good. Great cast, the wormhole scene is such a fun scene. It is like being on a rollercoaster.

All three of those movies were very good. Viggo was great in Eastern Promises. The bath house fight scene is underrated.
It's a great film, and I guess due for a re-watch - only seen it the once.
Michael Clayton is a brilliant movie....Clooney's best role.

We had quite a good meal last night, Started with a NV Rose Champagne - my fave - had Moroccan meatballs, with Taboulleh and cucumber yogurt salad w/Tahini & lemon - paired with what I think is the best Chateauneuf du Pape I've ever had: 2015 Saint Cosme.
My daughter made Coriander/Pistachio millionaire's shortbread - opened a bottle of '64 Armagnac, good, but no where near as good as that '73
