Welcome to the DBD, a W4C community board where one can talk about pretty much anything, like…
The below picture is a play on the maneki-neko - a Japanese cat figurine that beckons patrons into a shop with one paw. They have been adopted across eastern Asia to varying degrees so that it’s fairly common to see them in shops and restaurants. Traditionally, the maneki-neko is a Japanese Bobtail. I have a Japanese bobtail cat, but she has a recessive gene so she has a longer tail, but it’s kinked. Frankly, bobtails look weird to me.
We were given one of those cats as a good luck charm before our long sailing trip in 2020. The little solar powered kitty is still sitting in the cockpit waving at passengers whenever the sun is out.
I got this picture from the internet. But I can see that it's a Singaporean company based upon the company name, which ends in Pte Ltd. as the SG QR code link and the fact that the they are selling thing denominated in dollars. The front left of the photo is a red bucket. Red buckets are quite common in Singaporean food stalls, where they are used as cash registers. Typically, the bucket is tied to a pulley that has a counter-balance on it and placed at eye height. However, this food stall has bungie corded it rather than put it on a pulley. Regardless, the bucket method is much faster than a cash register for all-cash businesses. Singapore food stalls - like this fruit stand - are always cash only and you wouldn't dream of bringing a credit card to them.
So how would this work? The worker just throws cash in and retrieves change from it? Or the customer puts cash in it and the worker pulls on the rope to bring it up to them?
Yeah - the former. It's at eye height so cash is out of sight/mind/temptation. You grab it to pull it down. The idea is that counterbalance is heavier than the bucket, so it slides back up fairly quickly so that a hawker can turn around and tend to something else. A thief can't just help himself to the bucket because it's on a cheap-o pulley and you'll hear it squeak if it's pulled.

A state lawmaker Dan Laughlin (R-PA) sued a newspaper for defamation after the paper reported in an op-ed that Laughlin was seeking a pardon from Trump for supporting 2020 Dominion conspiracy theories. This opened Laughlin up to "discovery" and his emails got subpeened. Guess who had lots of emails supporting conspiracy theories and plans to overturn the election results in PA due to direct pressure from Trump?
Marco Rubio defended Trump's mishandling of top secret documents saying that it was a political hit. He's the Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
I think half a year or more. Given all the other stuff like pull a gun on a kid that is at his house, the whole laser pointer at the Rockets (?). Ja needs something to shock him into changing his behavior, otherwise it will never happen.
Plus, Adam Silver said history will be taken into account. He did go from 10 to 25 for the second offense, but there have been other things that have come out since the first offense.
I'm glad that one was televised last night. That was a solid performance by Ohtani, although the Angels bullpen did their best to blow it in the bottom of the 9th
USA eliminates Mexico in the Concacaf semifinals via a gentlemanly match with civil behavior by the Mexican team and its fans.
Just kidding. El Tri was dirty as hell, its fans continue the tradition of yelling a naughty word during penalty kicks, there were fights in the stands, throwing stuff at players, and stopping the game early.
That was the worst Mexican team I have ever seen and they don't have much in their youth pipeline that will inspire much hope for them in the next half a dozen years or so. El Tri are now officially "Los Burros". As for their fans, they need to fuck off and die. The worst fan base of any team in any sport on the planet and its not close. They now have an official "Strike 2" for fan behavior and I will be interested to see if there is any real action by CONCACAF or FIFA. I suspect not but honestly, another of their homophobic incidents and they should be stripped of co-hosting the '26 World Cup and their team should be kicked out of the competition. That's the only way to potentially change that delightful part of their footy culture.
I despise them, and they have gotten worse - and their "goal" was to try hard to keep the US from winning the conference by creating some red cards to keep great US players out of the game against Canada.
a well know and respected Swiss rider, Gino Mader, died of his injuries from yesterday after crashing on a high speed descent. today's stage (6) has been neutralized and peloton are riding the last 30 km together in his memory.
During the fifth stage of the Tour de Suisse on 15 June 2023, Mäder fell in a turn when descending from the stage's highest point at Albula Pass. The American cyclist Magnus Sheffield had fallen at almost the exact same spot a few minutes earlier. Mäder was found to be unconscious and submerged in water. He was resuscitated and airlifted to a hospital in Chur. Mäder died from his injuries a day later.
Mader was a former stage winner of the Giro d’Italia. Speaking of Giro d’Italia, 31 riders were disqualified from the U23 race for hanging onto cars and motorcycles to cheat on the infamous uphill climb of stage 4
our kids have an "uncle Bob" who is adopted member of the family. in fact, Bob is generally included in Xmas plan by default and everyone is disappointed if he is not there for some reason.

It was something I only ever saw on tv. Never did it as a kid. It seemed woefully unsanitary

it is in fact a pretty fun activity worth trying once.
Even as a kid, I remember seeing saliva streaks floating in the apple tub and noped out of participation.
