Guy cuts down 32 trees to get a better view of NYC. They weren't his trees. The town fined him $32k for cutting down the trees and ordered him to restore the trees - which will cost $1.9m.

Pitching battle. Old friend Kevin Gausman was outstanding against the Giants 6.0 IP, 12k, 3 hits, 1 BB. But it's tough for the Blue Jays to score when they strike out 17 times and walk none.
I was disappointed to turn on the mlb channel last night and see the Yanks and A's. I was hoping to see the Angels and check out Shohei doing his things.
Update on former 2022 All Star and Cy Young finalist Alek Manoah who was demoted all the way down to rookie ball. In his first appearance, he was rocked for 11 runs over 8 outs. Poor guy.

Woman fired because she was absent from work as a teacher for 20 of the 24 years she was employed wants to defend her side of the story as to why she was sacked. But she can't because she's at the beach.
Double D and his girlfriend went to Ireland in early March. He brought back a bottle of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish gin. Interesting stuff. Tangentially related, Double D gifted me with a bottle of Hendricks' Flora Adora gin for Father's Day.
There's also Red Spot as well. Irish whiskey used to be hella popular, pre Prohibition Amendment - but afterwards, didn't recover. For me, it's too smooth, not enough "bite" and different flavors as Scotch single barrel.
Supposedly the rooftop scene was filmed there. But in the movie, it's pretty obvious everything was done on a sound stage, including the rooftop. Wonder how that rumor got started.
It's not really a "rumor" - it's much more of a "fuck with the freshmen" thing - sort of telling people that you can use the steam tunnels to get around campus.
Ah, well at least that is a fun story. I don't recall anyone telling me fun stories when I was a freshman. When I was a sophomore, a summer school art teacher told me she took chemistry in LeConte Hall the same time that the first cyclotron was built there. No one knew it was there, but she said her hair started falling out.
the iSchool (school of information) is HQ'ed in that building, so that is my home building these days when i end up on campus for any teaching related activities.
inside seems pretty normal, not too old, not too new. but the super high ceilings are nice.
Miles Taylor, a former chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security, said that Trump made lewd comments about Ivanka's breasts and butt and wondered out loud "what it might be like to have sex with her." John Kelly scolded Trump that he was speaking about his daughter.
Trump told ABC and Semafor that the documents he was waving around were not classified - that they were construction documents and he was pretending that they were classified plans as an act of bravado.
[New York Times] The DOJ did not feel it had probable cause to search Trump's Bedminster residence/wife-cemetery. The audio evidence of Trump showing top secret documents to civilians has given that to them. The DOJ has subpeened video surveillance tapes from Bedminster. Jack Smith is not messing around.
Caught Asteroid City - one of my favorite Wes Anderson movies, but deeply weird and dollhouse - even for him. I think right now it's number 4 on my list of his films.
oh man . . .what a way to jump into the deep end on Wes Anderson. The minatures, the dollhouse nature, intricate story-within-story storytelling was kind of the "most Wes Anderson it can be" for this movie - I recommend going back and watching Tennebaums and Grand Budapest Hotel if you liked the aesthetic. Most people have Rushmore at the top of their ratings (not me - it's in the middle for me) but it's probably the most accessible.
I have seen and enjoyed Moonrise Kingdom, Fantastic Mr Fox, and Isle of Dogs. I did not care at all for Darjeeling Express (or at least the 20 minutes I saw before I hauled my carcass off the couch and left my wife and daughter to watch the rest of it.
I find Darjeeling . .. if not actually racist, then a little bit naive considering it's location. I'm a big big fan of Tennebaums and Grand Budapest - if you really like the intricate Anderson style, Grand Budapest more - Tennebaums is a real force of nature and has a lot more character than the artificial nature of his later work.
I can’t actually say that I got to the point of finding Darjeeling express racist, I had a very strong reaction that I would not want to be trapped in close quarters with the main characters and peaced out

Brutal Heat-Wave in the South East? Affecting anyone here?
Feels like normal summer weather for me. Hot Soup outside. Unlike Texas, we have reliable electricity - so it feels nice inside.
i hear AQI in midwest is pretty bad too.

I haven't seen the Hudsucker Proxy in a long time. I need to watch that one again.

Shades of Malibu residents "accidentally" blocking off shoreline access points with hedges, fences, stairs, fake no parking signs, etc
Daniel Snyder once did something similar and basically got away with it.

maybe i should go to the Giants-Mets game in NYC that is coming up.

Yeah, but the A's won, 2-1! 😃
I would normally prefer to see the A's, but Shohei. In one sense it didn't matter because of late starts east coast time.

Tree Poetry
‘A Poison Tree’ - William Blake
.
And I watered it in fears.
Night and morning with my tears:
And I sunned it with smiles.
And with soft deceitful wiles.
.
And it grew both day and night.
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine.
And he knew that it was mine …
I don't think I shall ever see a poem as lovely as a tree...

that stuff is good! i didnt realize it was Irish
i use it for negroni's on a normal night. good for many other things too.
finishing up a bottle of it right now.
whiskey. maybe they spell it whisky.
there are plenty of good ones. i like Green Spot and Yellow Spot as good solid choices of the pot still variety (just the Yellow i think).
There's also Red Spot as well. Irish whiskey used to be hella popular, pre Prohibition Amendment - but afterwards, didn't recover. For me, it's too smooth, not enough "bite" and different flavors as Scotch single barrel.
single malt Scotch is definitely more refined and distinctive but also requires a bit of extra effort to keep track of it all, just like good wine.

Cockney.
