Gavin goes Beast Mode

Marshawn and Gavin Newsom launch a new podcast called "Politickin'"

"Retired football pro and Oakland native Marshawn Lynch has teamed up with Gov. Gavin Newsom and longtime NFL agent Doug Hendrickson for a new podcast titled “Politickin’.”

The weekly podcast, scheduled to premiere July 15, will explore the hosts’ respective fields with conversations about football, leadership and the current state of affairs. It promises “Gavin Newsom like you’ve never heard him and Marshawn Lynch exactly how you’d expect him,” according to iHeartPodcasts, which announced the new show Wednesday, July 3."

...

"“So what does ‘Politickin’ ’ even mean?” Newsom asks in the podcast trailer. So far, the hosts don’t seem to fully know.

“We bring each side, all walks of life, like how we doin’ right now, and we figure out what we got goin’ on,” Lynch responds. “What I’m gonna call that is politickin,’ not because he's a politician, but because that’s just what we do.”

“With no politics,” Newsom adds."

I was listening to Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson's old anti-hero hit "Momma's don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys". It's a song warning women about loving cowboys because they're emotionally distant, but they're actually misunderstood souls who do like good things like clear mountain mornings, puppies, children, oh... and hookers.

I don’t understand this firing. What has he done wrong?

I was going to ask that. I mean we didn't have as many top level players like Max Homa, Collin, etc, but I thought we were still doing well.

I read an article that Klay felt disrespected over the last year the way the Warriors handled his contract negotiations. I'm sorry, the same team that signed you to a full max (or maybe close to it) contract after you tore your ACL knowing they'd be paying you 35+ million a year to rehab your knee. And then ended up having to eat another year after tearing your achilles. And knowing full well the next few years won't be close to his peak.

I just remember people asking Tony Gwynn why he didn't ask to renegotiate his long term contract and he basically said, I signed it so I have to live with it. Or the Celtics president asking if Larry Bird wanted to wait a few days before retiring knowing full well his contract would be official for one more year if he waited and larry said he wouldn't do that just to get paid for another year and not play.

A’s snap losing streak, beat Angels 7-5

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2024/7/2/24191155/as-snap-losing-streak-beat-angels-7-5

Oakland stopped their losing streak at five games on Tuesday night, beating the division rival Los Angeles Angels by a final of 7-5 in the friendly confines of the Coliseum.

Right-handed rookie Mitch Spence got the ball for tonight’s game. Making just his eighth start of the season, Spence got some revenge against the Los Angeles Angels after getting knocked around by them last week. Over 5 1⁄3 innings Spence held Los Angeles to just one run on six hits and a walk, a massive improvement over his last outing when he allowed six runs against these same Angels.

Giants continue cosplaying as good baseball team

It’s rarely a good sign to watch the schedule before the All-Star break. That’s especially true in the National League Wild Card race, where the teams that entered the competition have gotten off to about as smooth and successful of a start as the non-leading role contestants in the go kart derby in The Little Rascals.

But you can’t help yourself. These games do still mean as much as any others, even if a brutal stretch in the schedule will be negated by a light stretch further down the road. And for those of us actually interested in the aesthetics of following baseball, rather than just toodling on a standings abacus, it’s nice to watch a baseball team that you think deserves to be in the postseason race, and not just the equivalent of the sprinter who qualified for the Olympics because they grew up in a country where nobody likes to run.

Diamondbacks used an opener, but Teoscar Hernández was the Dodgers closer

https://www.truebluela.com/2024/7/2/24190556/teoscar-hernandez-dodgers-diamondbacks-opener-strategy

LOS ANGELES — Tuesday night’s series opener at Dodger Stadium was sloppy, full of missed opportunities, and at times infuriating for both teams, but it was close throughout. There were four blown leads in the final three innings, the last of which by Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald in a 6-5 Dodgers win.

Down a run with two outs and nobody on in the ninth, Will Smith and Freddie Freeman doubled to tie it, then Teoscar Hernández singled to left for the game-winner and his third RBI of the night, scoring Freeman.

The Supreme Court Assumes Joe Biden Won’t Abuse Its Horrific Immunity Ruling

It’s as if the Supreme Court cannot imagine that Joe Biden would—for example—instruct the Justice Department to arrest members of the Supreme Court for corruption and then crow triumphantly about it on social media. Or that Joe Biden would announce that he was sending a detachment of armored cavalry to supervise the elections in the red counties of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Arizona in November. Or that he would declare a “state of emergency” in the nation’s capital to prevent a quorum of the Congress from meeting to certify the electoral votes.

That is the obvious assumption. And yet...

Were I in Biden's position, I would deliberately abuse the ruling by doing everything in my power to prevent Trump from winning the general election through "official acts".

I would also step aside from seeking the Democratic nomination so that someone else could lead the Democratic party as the presidential nominee. Truly, that would result in fulfillment of the 2020 campaign promise to be the transitional president. The party and the nation could then move on.

That is an interesting and viable strategy. Doubt that well see it though.
