hiked up to the Camp Muir Base Camp on Mt Rainier. they were not kidding about this being a hard hike. the last 2+ miles are mostly continuously covered in snow year round. the camp does not seem far, but it takes FOREVER to hike up the steep snow field.
the fun thing is that you make pretty good time on the way down especially if you glissade -
Glissading is the act of descending a steep snow-covered slope via a controlled slide on one's buttocks
the weather was near perfect. with 90 deg temps in Seattle, we had 60-70 deg weather on the mountain. maybe a touch warm, since we were all stripping layers as we trudged up the snow. however you are supposed to stay covered because of risk of sunburn, especially off the reflection from the snow.
Late Kick's Josh Pate had a little fun at the expense of the ACC's new member when he said, "Cal will travel a combined 24,000 miles for their 5 road games this season. The Earth's circumference is 24,900 miles."
The Colorado chapter of the Libertarian party went rogue and nominated RFK Jr instead of their own candidate. RFK Jr generally draws more voters from Trump than Biden
Six motorcyclists try to cross Death Valley when it reached 128F. Four treated by paramedics, but one unfortunately keeps the place appropriately named
Yes I sleep fairly easily on planes. I will wake up every hour or two, but I generally just fall back asleep. I think I slept maybe 6+ hours of my 10+ hour flight back from Seoul. Since I landed around 11, the jetlag wasn't that bad.
yes, this is a nice "skill" to have. not sure how it got this way.
sometimes is wake up because i hear a noise or jolt and ask my wife if we just took off. she says, "no a$$hole, we just landed and you have been sleeping the whole time!"
generally i can sleep in in seat, middle, aisle, leg room or not, coach or first class.

it was a LONG day out on the mountain. leave Seattle 530a, start hiking by 930a, almost 9 hours on the mountain, back to Seattle by midnight.

Weather
It was brutal being outdoors in the East Bay last week. Today it's a cool 81. Going to heat back up this week.
Hoping Tahoe will be relatively cool beginning of next week. HSB and I will be at a friend's cabin. Bringing No 3 and trying to convince No 2 to go.

Seattle, we are here for another week and it is in the 90s next few days.
the weekend was hot too but it was very pleasant weather for our hike @ Rainier. more on that shortly
Raleigh hit a record: 106 degrees. And the humidity was high too.
Vegas hit a record: 120 degrees
Beryl hit Texas hard enough that it may have sent Ted Cruz to Cancun

No doubt Ted Cruz left before Beryl hit.

not even a little bit. 14+ hour flight to Shanghai last month sucked
You probably get to go lie-flat business when you fly that long though.
sure, if you fly biz class. I did not
I would've thought your company had that policy for long flights
long flights gets us Premium Economy which is better than a sharp stick in the eye but you got to be VP and above to get the fancy seats
those lay flat seats are SO EXPENSIVE that very few companies pay for things like that just for long flights and normal people.
