I was just thinking...without USC/UCLA, Cal's winning percentage is about to skyrocket. I wouldn't mind that. Play these fools in a Hate Bowl non-conference game each year.
On one hand, I'd say two: for two TVs (used to have an AppleTV box, but are using the built-in ATV on Samsung TVs. Less useful/elegant, but saved having two more boxes).
On the other hand, I'd say like maybe a dozen, but they're all apps for HomeKit appliances. If you count the phone/Siri as one remote, then the answer is three.
2. We purged most of our unused electronics during our house move and only retained our TV remotes. All other music and media players do not have remotes.
4. TV, cable box, sound bar, and a 2nd TV that the kids have below the main TV so they can both play PS4 and XBox/Switch at the same time. Games they play together like COD or Rocket League.
My 5 (now) 6-yo likes the concept, so she'll pick two words and then we try to make the portmanteau. Some are successful. I should keep track of those...
Wrote a memo to colleagues in January 2000 after the TW and AOL merger stating that this represented the apex of deal making at the time, but also stating that the next few years would see an implosion of Internet stocks. Will crypto recover?
The case of the Ohio rape/abortion of/by a 10 year old has gotten worse because it is such a prominent example of the morality of the issue. Indiana's governor doxxed the doctor and started building a legal case against him. However, the issue has hurt the GOP's polling. This is horrible, but I endorse bringing this to the forefront. No matter which side you're on, one has to live with the consequences of your political views and you should own up to it.
The Office of Inspector General asked for text content from Secret Service officers related to January 5 and 6th events. The Secret Service has turned over roughly 786,176 emails and 7,678 internal messages. However, some texts have been deleted to which some are concerned about some Secret Service officers trying to cover-up. The Secret Services spokesperson denies anything nefarious about the deleted texts.
The subtext is that there was a coordinated effort to have Jim Jordan take over for Mike Pence in order not accept the electoral college as coordinated by Jordan, Babin, Biggs, Gaetz, Gohmert, Gosar, Harris, Hice, Perry, MTG, and Brooks.
[CNN] DC Police office corroborates Cassidy Hutchison's testimony that Trump had a major conflict about wanting to go to the Capitol rather than back to the White House.
This contradicts what Tony Ornato said. Ornato was also Trump's assistant Chief of Staff before returning to the Secret Service. Tony Ornato was NOT there when Trump reportedly got violent trying to go to the Capitol. There are also completely unfounded rumors that Ornato was one of those who deleted his texts.
Seriously. The 3 month time frame in mid-March was way off...it's now mid-July, and he still hasn't even been cleared to swing a bat. He's still 4-6 weeks away.
Not convincing him to get surgery towards the end of last season when the Pads were in freefall shows the kind of leadership the Pads have. Getting Bob Melvin is better and the on-field results showed his leadership for the first few months. The question of if the team has bought in will be revealed in the first couple of weeks after the ASB.
@ Mets, @ Twins, Tigers, and 5 consecutive with the Rox. I imagine they need to win 10 or 11 of the 14. Because after they they got the Dodgers and the Giants.
Tiger Woods spent months thinking about The Open at St. Andrews. He did everything he could to make sure he made it to the Old Course for the 150th playing of golf's oldest major championship.
And once he got to Scotland, he did everything he could to make a solid run. He put in more on-site practice than he did for the other two majors he played - the Masters and the PGA Championship. He then skipped the U.S. Open just to be sure he was ready for The Open.
His game, though, never responded when it counted. Woods followed his opening-round 78 with a ** to miss the cut.
There are two ways to look at the San Francisco Giants 3-2, extra-innings loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night. The cynic’s viewpoint is that the Giants had numerous opportunities to win the game, and failed to take advantage of any of them. The flowery viewpoint is that it’s a testament to the Giants that they were even in such a position at all, given that it clearly was not their game to win.
At the risk of “both sidesing” a baseball game, you’re right either way you look at it.
The Giants did, indeed, botch their opportunities.
In the 10th inning they failed to score the Manfred Man, even though it was the speedy Mike Yastrzemski. And even though Yastrzemski, after watching Brandon Crawford fail to move him to third, took the initiative to steal third while there was still just one out.
This year (for whatever reason) we have been watching parts of various Giants games, and I have to say I find the voice of the play by play guy to sound soooooo phony it's hella of annoying.
When I first started listening to Jon Miller, I found his style a bit off-putting. After a while, I realized this is just his style and learned to roll with it.
Tyler Anderson did not start the season in the Dodgers starting rotation, but he’ll head into the All-Star break leading the team with the best record and best pitching staff in the National League in innings pitched. Another steady performance from the veteran left-hander guided the Dodgers to their smoothest win of the last few weeks.
Thursday’s 4-0 win over the Cardinals was the Dodgers’ ninth win in their last 10 games, so they haven’t been struggling by any means. They’ve just fallen behind early a lot, including eight of the previous nine games. But after trailing 5-0, 3-0, and 6-0 to start the last three games, the Dodgers never trailed in this one, thanks in large part to Anderson.
Anderson allowed only three hits and two walks in six scoreless innings, striking out four. It’s the 10th time in the last 12 starts that Anderson has lasted at least six innings. He lowered his ERA to 2.96 on the season.
I don't know exact temps but I spent a few days years ago at a naval communications base at Canarvon, Australia. It was generally warm enough that the navy guys there had a uniform that included short pants.
5 years in Phoenix were dreadful, punctuated by meeting the future ex-Mrs. Chitwood, as was visiting Newellbany one summer in DC when he was doing a summer internship.
However, the first real heatwave in Saratoga Springs end of July, '05 was probably the roughest. No AC in the house...the track actually canceled racing because of dangerous conditions...
Las Vegas and Scottsdale in August, both times it was 118 degrees. While it was the hottest, it was nothing compared to Vietnam in summer - about 100 degrees with humidity that felt like it laid on you like a hot blanket.
Now this is the kind of political pressure I thought might lead to Cal (and Furd) getting a B1G invite. They want to keep the L.A. schools, don't want to deal with this hassle, and figure the Bay Area schools aren't a bad fit for the conference and deliver a big TV market anyway.
Imagine if some how UCLA's move is checked. Pac11 is the result. Maybe add SDSU as a replacement for USC. They probably have had a better record than SC in recent years. SC is orphaned in the Big 10 and has to endure long flights, etc.
Had a dream last night that I was walking around Memorial stadium before the start of a Cal football game. I found myself in the bowels of Memorial Stadium where members of Rally Comm and the band were hanging out. When I entered the room someone said to me, "would you like to be Oski today? The regular guy didn't show." And so I was. At the end of the game, having, not surprisingly, had a great time , I realized my horror -- that I hadn't been wearing Oski's distinctive white gloves. I returned to the room where my adventure started and nervously asked if my services would be required the rest of the season. Damn if I didn't wake up before I got an answer.
This actually would work for me.

I kinda like that. Though I wonder if Oregon and Washington think too much of themselves to want to stay in the Pac-12 without USC and UCLA.
I was just thinking...without USC/UCLA, Cal's winning percentage is about to skyrocket. I wouldn't mind that. Play these fools in a Hate Bowl non-conference game each year.
How many remotes do you have?
On one hand, I'd say two: for two TVs (used to have an AppleTV box, but are using the built-in ATV on Samsung TVs. Less useful/elegant, but saved having two more boxes).
On the other hand, I'd say like maybe a dozen, but they're all apps for HomeKit appliances. If you count the phone/Siri as one remote, then the answer is three.

Wrote a memo to colleagues in January 2000 after the TW and AOL merger stating that this represented the apex of deal making at the time, but also stating that the next few years would see an implosion of Internet stocks. Will crypto recover?
I hope not.
Crypto is inherently corrupt, being a ponzi scheme. Also, not a fan of "currency" attempting to disrupt established government-backed currencies.
Actual currency doesn't have to advertise.
I agree. The 'blockchain' has some utility, and may make some of this crypto crap worthwhile, but not as straight up currency.

And the Rockies are our Arizona
Yes this! They have been the thorn in our side since the 07 play in game that we lost.
The lockout cost the Pads Tatis for pretty much the season, unfortunately. They maybe get him back for, what, September?
At this point, make him get shoulder surgery, especially if the Pads keep up their mid-season swoon.

I saw him getting a magazine at a bookstore at SFO once and his voice was pretty similar
I do like Jon Miller. He was good when doing the ESPN Sun night games.
This team is awful at situational hitting...just dreadful. It's to be expected though with a roster of .220 hitting mid-30-somethings and AAA guys.

Hottest place
I've been at 118 between Vegas and the Hoover Dam in a car
And 113 in Bangkok that was like at 85% humidity and I was walking around. That was peak miserable.
Eh, I've been in Sacramento County when the temp has been near 110 deg. F.
Sonoma County around 105.
Berkeley around 104.
Hunterdon County NJ around 100 and 50% humidity, which is not pleasant. Fortunately, we had an in-ground pool to cool off in.
I don't know exact temps but I spent a few days years ago at a naval communications base at Canarvon, Australia. It was generally warm enough that the navy guys there had a uniform that included short pants.

I'm surprised the future ex-Mrs. Chitwood's frozen heart didn't cool things off for you in Phoenix.
And DC wasn't hot at all - you're just soft.
Ouch. Double ouch.
Both true.
Hottest in degrees was Phoenix, but the worst feeling was DC late August.
Both are absolutely miserable...
116 driving north on Hwy 101 north of Santa Rosa I think in August 2006.
Las Vegas and Scottsdale in August, both times it was 118 degrees. While it was the hottest, it was nothing compared to Vietnam in summer - about 100 degrees with humidity that felt like it laid on you like a hot blanket.
"It's gonna be hot and wet! That's nice if you're with a lady, but it ain't no good if you're in the jungle."
Along the same lines. Hottest place I’ve ever been was Manila. 42C with 95% humidity. I was miserable.
Not as hot as what is in the photo, but while driving to LA last July, it was 47C (117F) in the Bakersfield area. Was pretty fooking unbearable.
For me 50 C at Siwa Oasis. Was visiting the Oracle of Ammon there. Didn't reveal much, unfortunately.
