In a pre-season game between Jacksonville and Kansas City, Jacksonville was kicking off after a TD late in the 1st half. The kickoff landed in the end zone and then bounced into the field of play and settled at the one-yard line. A KC return team player, intending to create a touchback, positioned himself in the end zone and picked up the ball. He created a safety.
Critical difference in the rules between last year and this year: the ball remains live until the play is blown dead. Which means that if you pull the ball into your own end zone from the field of play and down it in your own end zone, you've created a safety.
He pretty much solidified his standing as a Top 10 player of all time with that performance.
All of those other superstars on the USA team were basically passing the ball back to Steph because they knew the shots were going in. That's major respect.
My hope is that John Williams will still be around and able to participate in the Opening. Going to his Hollywood Bowl concerts every year, where his Olympic Fanfare NBC Theme is almost always played, is a staple LA experience.
Given that he will be 96 if he is still around, I won't begrudge him if he opts out.
Oh that is a good idea. Also I like the Chili Peppers, Snoop and Dre (all featured in the handoff last night), but for the popular music type stuff it would be nice to include some more current folks too. Olivia Rodrigo maybe, is t she from SoCal?
Since it’s a domestic Olympics with baseball back in, it would be cool if MLB did an extended all star break and let real players play, but I know it’s incredibly unlikely. I know they have WBC, but since no pitchers are stretched out yet it’s not really the same as a midseason tourney would be
NBC/Peacock did a great job with the coverage, and Paris was the ultimate setting. They provided so many ways to dice it up the way you would want to consume it. Adding Snoop and Flav pushed the fun factor and made the Games feel a little more accessible than in the past. Lots of very positive takeaways to build on for the LA Games.
I did enjoy being able to dip into stuff live, and they did a great job putting highlights out on Peacock and YouTube. I'm not the audience for the non-sports content so I appreciated being able to zip on past it
Solid. I think we match up pretty evenly and have some payback due, but it will be a tough environment and probably will be like 90 degrees with high humidity in the late summer Alabama sun. I like our chances, but we may need some things to roll our way to get out of there with a W.

Is that the new kickoff formation? It will take me a while to get used to that.
