The last two days at work I've been unable to access WFC. I can go to seemingly any other website in the world but when I try to visit the DBD I'm told the server is not secure. I tried rebooting and downloading Chrome to go along with Safari. Nothing helps. It's unimaginable torture not being able to check in while my students are taking a test. Any thoughts?
I thought it was resolved since you sent messages during work hours. Usually when a browser says a website isn't secure, it's because the SSL certificate is invalid, usually because it has expired. Looking at the WFC certificate, it was renewed on August 24th, so that probably isn't the issue. But if you're only seeing it at work, maybe something with the work network is screwing with the certificates.
If you click on Not Secure to the left of the writeforcalifornia.com URL (if you're using Chrome), it might say Certificate not Valid. Click on that and it should show up the certificate.
Patch and crash Tuesday this week was rather rocky on some systems for reasons yet to be understood. Possibly your work site dumped/invalidated some/all the existing certificates. The suggestion above *should* remedy that, although I had one install where Chrome had to be explicitly rebooted as well as the operating system this week.
This is why I insist, for myself, to use 12:00 Noon or 12:00 Mid(night) and not 12:00 AM or 12:00 PM. Does 12:00 AM mean Noon or Midnight? There is ambiguity here, and it can be not pretty. I think it is why insurance policies typically have expiry dates that includes 12:01 AM. 12:01 AM is undeniably 1 minute past midnight.
I think the problem is that you haven't given me your birthday, social security number, your mother's maiden name, the street your grew up on, and your first pet's name.
First off, this is Bleacher Report, a practitioner of spaghetti journalism.
Second, as SGBear points out, this sotry is about geography and not finances or financial realities. It would require the ACC implode for Cal and Stanfurd to be free of the financial constraints due to ACC membership, before they could even think of becoming a Pac-12 (6? 8?) school again.
No. Why would demote ourselves before needing to do it? This is just a story line that makes geographic sense, but not financial sense. And money talks.
My hope is still that ACC implodes and Big Ten and SEC become the two giant conferences, with Cal going to Big Ten and then forming a western division with the former Pac10 schools.
Exactly. I am still rooting for an ACC "Western Division" by adding Wazzou and OSU. Should reduce some of our jet lag issues and any griping by the Eastern schools about too many visits out West.
Nice idea, but I doubt there'd be the votes needed to make it happen.
I consider it more likely that the ACC implodes as consequence of FSU and Clemson eventually bailing out, and following that, Cal and Stanf*rd return to the Pac-6 or whatever number it is. Even implosion of the ACC seems unlikely. FSU and Clemson made a lot of noise this summer in the hopes it would knock something loose; it didn't.
I think adding Wazzu and OSU probably won't happen. Sounds like one main reason CalFurd was added was Notre Dame. I don't see Notre Dame going to bat for WazOSU.
Previously winless South Alabama beats Northwestern State 87-10 after building a 80-10 lead after the third quarter. They teams agreed to play a six minute fourth quarter. SA set a Sunbelt scoring record.
ASU traveled to San Marcos Texas where the Bobcats were a 2.5 point favorite. They kicked a fourth quarter field goal in a chaotic 4th quarter to win 31-28. The Sun Devils had a preseason over-under of 4.5 wins and are already 3-0.
In unrelated news, I've notice that there are stat black-outs on ESPN apps, which is kind of one of the few reasons I used it in the past. It happened for the Cal/UC Davis game and this game. I guess ESPN is cutting costs.
I noticed the stat problem as well last night, but its not universal; they have worked in some games. They worked most of the OSU-SD St game, but had a temporary outage late in the game. I was thinking this MIGHT be related to the sites. Most of the times I've observed problems have been in games involving G5 or FCS schools. It will be interesting to monitor.

I've been watching a bunch of Auburn youtube talking heads over the past two weeks. It's tough to be informed on a national level - there is too much knowledge to gather about all relevant sources - so you have to generalize through inference and generalization. Before the game, everyone was like "Cal sucks because they always suck and hippy nerds are not serious about fuhbawl." The post-game content has been amazing. The pure uncut blacktar cognitive dissonance that Auburn fans have been consuming this week has driven them crazy. Nearly all of them are "Hugh Freeze is an idiot for not benching Peyton Thorne" and "Cal still sucks, this is a highly unlikely upset, and they'll struggle to have a winning season". I've only heard two voices of reason, which makes me thankful that Cal fan/analyst sphere is generally introspective and relatively even keeled.
There are victories and there are victories that destabilize a program. This is one of the latter and it is delicious.
Newellbany & I noticed this after the game at the Auburn bar Southeastern, and also when we had a nightcap at the Laurel hotel: the level of dejection on the faces of so many Auburn fans was sizable, and unfortunately hit a little too close to home, as I had a similar look after Wilcox’s brutal losses at U of A ‘(21), and Colorado (‘22). It’s the look you have when you know YOUR team is cooked. A home loss to Cal on national TV as double-digit favorites in week 2 is simply a devastating turn of events for that program and its fans, and puts a real ceiling on the win total.
Much like Ole Miss in ‘19, I expect the Tigers to largely fall apart this season, and scuffle to another 6-6 year…it may very well cost Freeze his job. Thorne is not an SEC caliber QB, and it doesn’t sound like they have anyone better.
It's a story as old as time. Do poorly and the homers start calling for QB2 and QB3, us included. Hey, you never know. Maybe Auburn has a Mendoza on their depth chart.
We’ll see…definitely a game they should get right in v the Lobos…but the diehards apparently saw the wizard behind the curtain, and it’s probably gonna take a couple of huge W’s to get them back.
Gawd help those folks should Cal beat either FSU or Miami. or both. Beating both would put Cal in the driver's seat in the ACC. In that case, I would imagine those same folks would absolutely lose their shit. They would become unglued.
SAN FRANCISCO – The California men's tennis team won seven of eight matches to start the season Thursday in the Battle in the Bay Classic, an annual tournament co-hosted for the first time by the Golden Bears at the California Tennis Club. In related news, Chump has also demonized ABC, and said he would only consider doing a debate moderated by Hannity and another hand picked Fox stooge. I find it interesting that while Disney Corp. I am starting to wonder if if AT&T is making some of its moves based on political affinity rather than simple business interests (though they’re blaming my sudden inability to get ESPN/ACCN/ABC on the Disney Corp.). https://blog.credo.com/att-supports-right-wing-causes-here-are-10-reasons-to-drop-them-right-now/
The proof is in the pudding. If the Disney Corp channels don't come back to AT&T U-verse/DirecTV, that speaks way louder than if the two sides come to an agreement.

One thing you can’t say about this year’s San Francisco Giants team is that they lose in uncreative ways. Blowing enormous leads, routine lazy fly balls drop between outfielders, bizarre obstruction calls, giving up seven runs in one 11th inning, the team has done it all. But dropping a game thanks to a walk and three straight wild pitches is incredible even by 2024 Giants standards.

I didn't know that Tua was concussed so badly that he went into fencer's pose. That's got to be something bad enough that it's career threatening, no? He has got to be firmly into a situation where he is literally swapping brain cells for dollars and the exchange rate is bad.
Stephen A. Smith is an S-Tier asshole. I was watching him say that Tua has zero chance of retiring because he just signed a generational wealth contract and he has a family to take care of and the Dolphins need him. What jackass. He has zero insight into what Tua is thinking and saying that something is a done deal about a man's personal choice is maddening. It's okay to say "I don't know, but he's got a difficult decision to make", Stephen.
DIscussing how good it would be if Cal and Furd came crawling back to the Pac12, even though both schools contribute nothing but academics. I'm starting to lose my sympathy for the Beavs plight.

Yeah, happened to catch it live - not good. Step-Dad and I discussed how much longer Tua will actually play tackle football. Shouldn’t be much longer.
To all young athletes:
Choose Baseball. Choose life.
(Trainspotting ref intended!)
Career suicide is one thing. Actual suicide in bits and pieces is something else, entirely.
Can we take up a collection to pension off Tua? Please?
Bills looked very good last night running all over Miami. win 31-10.
it was 24-10 at halftime, so i guess i didnt miss much since that is when i went to sleep.

Listening to Beaver Dam podcast.
DIscussing how good it would be if Cal and Furd came crawling back to the Pac12, even though both schools contribute nothing but academics. I'm starting to lose my sympathy for the Beavs plight.
S2 of The Old Man dropped yesterday…watching with Ma Chitwood tonight.
I had mixed feelings about S1, but will keep an open mind.
I've been binge-watching ACC network content, especially ACC PM and ACC Huddle. I recommend it and encourage all of us'n Bares to call in an leave a message.

Yesterday, Jim McGill from BI was interviewed.
Thanks for the ACC network recommendation. Here is a link to the Jim McGill episode:

Teddye Buchanan…coming up from *Cal Davis*…
If you listen to the final minutes of the 9/11 episode of ACC PM, there's a Cal Fan, me, who called in. ;)
Yes, on ACC PM, Packer and Hale were very fair and interesting in their discussion of Cal. I found it a refreshing show.
I agree.
Although, prior to last weekend, I could feel the eye rolls and low expectations about our chances against Auburn.
But, we, too, were probably the most surprised by Saturday's result.
