I received an email from my dad last night that he had captured a rattlesnake near where he lives. He said this was the 6th such capture this year. Usually, he captures only 1 or 2 a year. Said rattlesnake was probably older. I received a video of the capture. The rattler looked to be about 6 feet long and he was relatively fat.
Anyhow, Dad relocates rattlers to a spot 4 miles away so that they can't easily return and are away from other humans and lets them go.
Follow-up. He says that he caught another rattler within the last hour. All of this makes me think there's a den not far from where he is. What little I've read about rattlers indicate they don't range very far from where they are born. Usually within a mile, or even closer to their den.
Cal fans? Memorial was half empty, this for the best and most entertaining Cal team in a while, in good weather, against an upwardly mobile in state FBS opponent. I can't believe they all just stayed in the southeast after the Auburn game, and before heading to Tallahassee.
Did coolant flush on the Ms.'s Outback in anticipation of replacing water pump and thermostat next weekend. Will be saving approximately $550 over shop quote by spending about 3 hours doing the repair myself.
I just found out that the bearing in my power steering pump may be going out. There is a startup squeak that goes for about 1 min right around the pump. A couple of years ago I rebuilt the pump to replace all the gaskets and the bearing when it had a leak. My son needs it this weekend and I probably don't have time to redo it so I may just take it to the local guy. I rebuilt it because I had heard from many people that acuras do best with the OEM pump and fluid. I don't think it's the tensioner which I also replaced at the same time.
On Sun I spent most of the day putting new HID headlights in No 3's car. I had replaced his headlight assembly with projector headlights and a HID system, but every so often the right one would go out. Turning the headlights off and on fixed it, so I think the problem was the voltage sometimes would drop below what the HID ballast required (the old headlights were a halogen bulb) so it would shut off. When I bought the new HID system, I also bought a relay system with I think capacitors that will hold the voltage. that was a pain to figure out where to mount it and how to get the wires to the right place. The wires needed to be about another 6 inches. (Twist's wedding night)
Chores, errands, & homework. I did some weeding and found out the hard way that fire ants come in different size. I found that they also come in itty bitty versions that are barely visible but their sting is just as powerful as full sized ones.
Auburn buries New Mexico 45-19 and new QB Hank Brown goes 17/25 235 yard 4 TD 0 INT to pretty much bury Peyton Thorne 0 at least until they get to the teeth of their SEC schedule
Mississippi State is crushed 41-17 by [checks notes] Toledo
I have admitted here before to rooting for UW last year. It was really bizarre to flip on the Apple Cup and see just completely new coaches and players.
I guess every sports team is a Ship of Theseus at some level, but “rooting for laundry” never felt more apt.
for some reason my high school alma mater started taking students to a UCLA game every fall (maybe for the overseas boarding students?) and they have yet to see a UCLA win
#5 Ole Miss beats down Wake Forest 40-6 in Winston Salem. Wake also has to pay Ole Miss because they cancelled the return game in Oxford.

Memphis beats FSU in Tallahassee 20-12. FSU becomes the third team to be a pre-season top 10 team to start 0-3. Another one of those teams was also a Norvell FSU team.

Caleb Williams continues to suck in the NFL. He had 0 TD and 2 INTs vs Texans last night. ESPN stats page projects him to finish the year with 2270 yards, 0 TD and 17 INTs.
The Las Vegas Raiders’offense looked absolutely dead for three quarters, but Gardner Minshew, Davante Adams and Brock Bowers all took over to give them a stunning 26-23 victory over the Baltimore Ravens who were a 8.5-point home favorite.
As Major League Baseball collectively celebrates Roberto Clemente Day, the Oakland Athletics hoped to take the rubber match from the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. JP Sears took the mound today for Oakland. Sears faced off against 24-year-old rookie Sean Burke who made his major league debut on September 10, 2024.
Walker Buehler had his best start in months, in a week the Dodgers needed something, anything from their starting pitchers. Shohei Ohtani had two run-scoring doubles. The Braves wanted no part of Ohtani in the ninth inning, then Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman made them pay, opening the floodgates in a seven-run ninth in the Dodgers’ 9-2 win on Sunday night at Truist Park in Atlanta.
Everton became the first team in the Premiere League era (so 32 years) to play successive games in which they took a 2-0 league and then lost 2-3. Always innovating? Always innovating!

BERKELEY– The California field hockey team defeated UC Davis 2-0 on Sunday at Underhill Field, to extend its winning streak to four games to begin the 2024 season on Sunday at Underhill Field.
SAN FRANCISCO – California men's tennis senior Carl Emil Overbeck completed a trifecta of titles as the 2024 Battle in the Bay Classic came to an end Sunday at the California Tennis Club, with the Dane capturing the doubles crown with Theo Dean in the morning and then winning the singles championship in the afternoon. The singles title earned Overbeck wild-card entry into the singles main draw of the Tiburon Challenger professional tournament, slated for Sept. 29-Oct. 6.
DAVIS – The No. 5 California men's water polo team finished 4-0 at the Aggie Roundup, closing the second season of the tournament with Sunday wins over American River, 19-6 and West Valley, 21-12.
The freshmen led the way for the Golden Bears (7-1) in the win against American River, with Alex Oprea pouring in a game-high four goals and Maddox Arlett scoring three. Dante Ianora, Ryder Hagan, Piero Arienti and Will Kelly all registered hat tricks in the win over West Valley.
BOULDER, Colo. – California volleyball bounced back from its Saturday night loss with a four-set win (25-16, 24-26, 25-16, 25-19) against UC Irvine on Sunday to close out the Buffs Invitational, heading back to the Bay Area with a record of 7-3 on the season and high hopes heading into its final two matches of nonconference play.
DAVIS – The No. 5 California men's water polo team opened the Aggie Roundup with a pair of ranked wins Saturday, defeating No. 8 UC Davis 16-7 and No. 12 San Jose State 10-8.
Maddox Arlett led the Golden Bears (5-1) with five goals in the day, all of which came in the win over the Aggies (4-3). The freshman got Cal out to a fast start with a first-quarter hat trick, eventually extending the lead to 7-1 early in the second quarter.
BERKELEY – Freshman forward Malcolm Zalayet scored his first collegiate goal for the California men's soccer team at Edwards Stadium on Friday, but the Golden Bears wound up on the wrong end of a 2-1 result in in their first ACC home match.

Others are not moving into the sun, and not moving where there is not easy access to facilities. It would simply empty the east side of the stadium of people.
The middle aged and older folks who would be buying these tickets are not going to be fans of walking all the way up to the top to use the restroom. I rarely don't sit on the west, but the climb is getting old (as am I).
I thought he maintained his composure pretty well given 2 completely unnecessary person fouls penalties had just been called. Had a 3rd one then ensued, that would have not been pretty. Interesting, but definitely not pretty.
If the card throwing had continued, at what point do the refs call a forfeit or at least warn of one? I'm only mildly surprised that the officials allowed for two warnings without explaining the reason for the warnings.

Well, I hope he was able to read all the nice things we said about him. I must have mixed up my information from Big C.
I'll leave this here for a day or two then take it off, I guess.
So he's not dead or missing. Good.
He only posted 7 times?

The Cal OOC curse is still intact.
UCLA is cratering ahead of them playing us 2026-2029. Minnesota is 2-1, but they haven't beat anyone of consequence. We play them next season.

Wisconsin is fine, but they too should think about having a downturn before we play them in 2029

I have a similar skepticism.
Law enforcement confirms it's real, though it looks like he also never got close enough to fire at Trump. The shots fired were from Secret Service.
You know what else makes me skeptical? Roger Stone. I would never put it past him to concoct some crazy ass scheme to drum up sympathy for Trump.
I had skepticism right when I heard about the first one.

Cal literally invented card stunts and now it's toast. Perhaps we can get the alumni to do it. We don't have the arm strength to chuck them on the field either. Or perhaps the student section gets moved, which would improve revenues too.
How embarrassing to get yelled at by head coach - lol
Moving the students would not improve revenue, unless you charge the people who already sit on that side a large premium to be in the center. Others are not moving into the sun, and not moving where there is not easy access to facilities. It would simply empty the east side of the stadium of people.

I thought he maintained his composure pretty well given 2 completely unnecessary person fouls penalties had just been called. Had a 3rd one then ensued, that would have not been pretty. Interesting, but definitely not pretty.
