The San Francisco Giants failed in their quest to Beat LA on Thursday night, losing 2-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a game that was fascinating, bizarre, and as frustrating as any game in recent memory. It was the sort of game where, if it had transpired in May against the Minnesota Twins, you would have cackled at the outrageousness of it, and perhaps even looked back on it fondly a few weeks later. But in September against the Dodgers, it was the sort of game that caused you to cackle to distract others from the tears streaming down your eyes, and to distract yourself from growing your fingernails out just to evict your eyeballs from their sockets in the most painful fashion imaginable.
LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers walked a tightrope act on Thursday night, walking 10 batters and living to tell about it, surviving a 2-1 win over the San Francisco Giants in the opener of a four-game series at Dodger Stadium.
With the win, the Dodgers now lead the Padres by three games with nine games left to play. Their magic number to clinch the National League West is down to six.
Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, a three-time Cy Young Award winner and former National League MVP, will retire at the end of the 2025 season, the team announced on Thursday.
Friday will be Kershaw’s final career regular season start at Dodger Stadium, facing the Giants, the longtime rival he’s faced more than any team during his career.

The California women's tennis team announced a fall schedule of seven tournaments including the season-opening ITA All-American Championships, which begin Saturday in Cary, North Carolina. The Golden Bears will make their home debut Sept. 26-28 at the Cal Fall Invitational.
After opening up its ACC schedule with four points on the road last week, the California women's soccer team is taking a quick break from conference play to host San Francisco Bay Area rival Santa Clara on Saturday at Edwards Stadium. The 4 p.m. PT matinee with the Broncos is the Golden Bears' final nonconference match of the regular season.
The Bears come into the week riding a five-match unbeaten streak that features two 2-1 wins and two shutouts. Most recently Cal defeated Pitt 2-1 on the road last Thursday in its conference opener before earning a 2-2 draw Sunday with a Clemson team that is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The Broncos, who are also receiving votes, suffered three straight losses to ranked opponents in August but are a perfect 3-0 in their last three contests.
The No. 3 California men's water polo team will head to Southern California to participate in the highly competitive Overnght MPSF Invitational, hosted on the campuses of UCLA and USC.

Cal – seeded third – will begin tournament play on Friday against 14th-seeded and 17th-ranked UC Santa Barbara at USC's Uytengsu Aquatics Center. Coverage will start at 3 p.m. PT on Overnght.

The ACC & SEC have the issue where some teams have established P4 non conference rivalries, and some don't (actually exists in the B1G & Big XII/XVI as well, but to a lesser degree). That has been allowed to be a stumbling block that shouldn't exist. The 10 game minimum in a format of choice is an overdue step.
Isn't the broader issue pay-games effectiveness to reaching revenues/Bowl/CFP games - with the latest data showing that pay-games are better net-net from a strategy perspective but less fun for fans.
It's the unspoken issue that body bag games with FCS opponents are glorified practices for ACC and SEC teams. Many SEC teams (not all) have long had their FCS opponents scheduled in October and November as a tune up for the archrivalry and, if they're fortunate or good enough, the conference championship games.

I think they're still going to have local broadcasts if you're in the Bay or LA.
Not for Apple TV. I checked last night. Apple TV is the only broadcast available, similar to the Fox Sat game and ESPN Sun night games.
Huh. My Hulu schedule shows it coming up on NBC Sports Bay Area.
Hmm...let me check again. Maybe I had the wrong night on the guide.
It doesn't show up on the Xfinity schedule. Weird.
