Trevor Noah is nearing his last laugh on “The Daily Show.”
The comedian, who came out of near anonymity to take over the program from Jon Stewart in 2015, plans to exit the flagship Comedy Central series after a seven-year tenure that saw him transform it for a new generation of viewers who are more at home on social media than they are cable outlets and broadcast networks.
Noah revealed his plans to an audience at Thursday evening’s taping of the program in New York, saying that “I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days.”
To be 100% honest - I lived in England from 9-13 at a RAF institution - and if I'm honest, I liked England a lot. And unlike most of the other kids on that base, we went around the nearby parts of England quite a bit; mostly for fun, or sometimes pissing us if our parents were just buying antiques and we were just waiting in the cars.
I didn't in anyway love QE2, but I also didn't hate her either - and her image was on all the English stamps I was collecting has a kid.
The Bank of England is in the process of converting "paper" currency to another material (polymer, I think), which is expected to take about two years in total. Bank of England will stop issuing paper currency September 30 (today), as I recall, and beginning in October will start issuing polymer notes. Holders of old currency in 20 pound and 50 pound notes will be able to deposit those to bank accounts, but they will not be legal tender for any other kind of transactions after September 30.
That Charles has recently become King looks serendipitous for the Bank of England as it means that his portrait can now appear on the notes at the same time that the conversion to polymer currency is ongoing.
I assume that they will just leave everything in circulation until it reaches whatever natural end of life - I know that's what they did in the Netherlands when I was a kid and Queen Juliana stepped down to allow Beatrix to take the throne. I know Queen Elizabeth was on the throne forever (hee hee toilet joke) but another reason you don't see any coins in circulation that preceded her was decimalization in 1971 - some older coins remained valid for a long time after that, but they've all long since been demonetized.
Jenna Ellis, who was on Trump's advisory team and was the one who got farted on by Rudy, got triggered that Lizzo used James Madison's crystal flute. Never mind that Lizzo is a classically trained flautist via University of Houston.
I wonder how widespread the shit-losing actually is. I'm guessing most people either think what Lizzo got to do is awesome or they're indifferent because they have better things to worry about.
My guess is that there's like three MAGA chuckleheads losing their shit, but they're on TV, and then all of us on the other team amplified those idiots with our outrage about their outrage, giving them the attention they crave.
[MBB] Wazzu RS-Fr guard Myles Rice has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Understandably, he is out for the upcoming season. Our thoughts are prayers to the the Rice family and the Wazzu basketball program. Some things are much more important than sports.
school just started this week, so the students have not really had a chance to go to many games. our older one went to the game vs Stanford but still was orientation week.
How is this even possible. OSU has enough of an advantage over their opponents and CFB already. I am really starting to dislike CFB and this is part of it.
It's mostly just timing. They have 9 conference games. Some years it's 4 at home, some years it's 5. This year it's 5. Then they have 2 "buy" games against weaker opponents, just like most of the blue bloods do. Then (unlike us) they have a home and home against Notre Dame with the return trip to South Bend being next year.
I'm actually very interested in seeing how this game goes. I read earlier this week that because both teams have relatively easy schedules, this game could determine a frontrunner for one of the conference title game spots.
Yup. They gave up a 40 spot to Chip & Company via the tight end who transferred from Duke. They clawed back but it was too late. The interceptions by Penix threw dirt on the casket.
Watch, knowing how thin the margins are for Wilcox and how we can’t catch a break, they’ll have things figured out by the end of the year when they come to Cal. DTR & Charbonnet will make some plays on the ground, the Bruin D will blitz the piss out of Plummer, and a 5-6 Bears team will drop a heartbreaker and miss out on bowl eligibility. I’d feel so much better about winning this game if the Bears already had 6 wins, for some reason.
Only Ott can save us!! Get him the damn ball 25x a game, control the clock!!
The stress level is high and one is a hero one week and a goat the next. Reading forums like this also would be a bit unsettling as the pendulum swings from praise and adulation to excoriation.
Christopher Brown had a good game. He seems to be having a fairly good season at BYU. I wish he would’ve stayed at Cal as I think him and Ott would make a great 1-2 RB tandem.
Judge Cannon sides with Trump as she overturns Special Master Dearie's requirement that Trump certifies the seized material list. Trump essentially gets off the hook for his "FBI planted evidence" BS. She also extends the timeline so that documents aren't broken into a series of sets of documents so that it all comes after the midterm elections. Shocking, I know.
Ginni Thomas testified to the J6C that she thought the 2020 election was stolen. J6C is investigating whether she pushed the idea to overturn the election, an accusation that she denies. She claims she "played no role in any events after the 2020 election results" despite Mark Meadows texts show that she tried to push the idea of voter fraud during the election.
I despise the new normal of all these shitheads saying something that is completely the opposite to their normal stance on a Friday night so that they can later point to their statements as defense to their undemocratic behavior.
President Trump tried to get the FBI to seize NYT Nancy Haberman's phone to find the leakers in his White House. This was corroborated by then WH Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham
I would like to thank the San Francisco Giants. It hasn’t been a good season for them. It’s been a bad enough season that we should all be circling Wednesday on our calendars, for that is when it all mercilessly comes to an end.
But we’re not. We’re still watching, because the Giants have managed to remind us that baseball is pretty freaking cool, and it’s awful darned fun, and really, despite what we say behind its back (and sometimes to its face), we love it dearly.
The Giants have reminded us of that through playing well, such as Thursday night, when they beat the Colorado Rockies 6-4 to win for the ninth time in their last 10 games, and draw to .500 for the first time since August 23.
Miguel Vargas capitalized on a sudden start, driving in three runs to lead the Dodgers over the Padres 5-2 on Thursday night at Petco Park in San Diego.
With first base manned almost literally every day by Freddie Freeman, and with Justin Turner and Max Muncy having third base covered, Vargas’ two primary defensive positions are well accounted for, limiting him to near Maytag repairman status. He’s had to take starts where he can get them, which on Thursday meant left field, where he’s made four of his eight starts since getting called back up for September.
Trayce Thompson was originally in the Dodgers lineup in left field on Thursday, but was a pregame scratch. Manager Dave Roberts before the game told reporters Thompson was away from the team on a personal matter, and is expected to be back with the team on Friday once they are back home in Los Angeles.
Remember that poor guy who barely missed catching Aaron Judge's 61st home run. His name is... [checks notes]... Frankie Lasagna and he... [checks notes]... owns an Italian restaurant in Toronto.
The Athletic is reporting that the ref identified by Roxy wasn't the guy who threw the flags...but that's the only part of the story that they debunk. Story does nothing to make us believe the game wasn't fixed and, further, it includes this juicy quote from the ACC:
“The ACC did not issue any public statements following the Week 3 games, but that does not mean an official or officials from the Cal-Notre Dame game have not been disciplined.”
Last week, I saw that Tua hit the back of his head against the Bills. He gets up, shakes his head like he's trying to clear the double vision. He then tries to walk it off but stumbles because of the vertigo/double vision. Having been concussed myself, I knew right away that he was concussed. The Dolphins staff come in right away.
Tua gets cleared for action. Then this happened last night. He fingers curl up in "posturing" pattern as his brain sends uncontrolled signals to his extremities due to brain injury. Warning: some people may find the video disturbing as he is clearly badly hurt.
also, it was interesting listening to the halftime commentary. it was all about "injuries are an unfortunate part of the game and the players take these risks to entertain you".
while i am a big football fan, i imagine that it is somewhat unsustainable ..
aside from the injury, i am surprised that there wasnt a penalty on the play. it looked like they spun him around and threw him pretty forcefully to the ground. seems like there have been penalties for much lighter tackles than that.
I thought I heard the Dolphins were being investigated for letting Tua go back in last week. I imagine the NFL is going to double down on that investigation. Heads must roll.
I was scared we were also going with the white helmets for the true all white look.
I would prefer we wear blue pants or even yellow pants with the white jerseys than white pants.
I also wish Cal would roll out a gold helmet with blue Cal script. Or even wear the block C gold helmets with our current uniforms. I think that would look great
Yup, Let's see more national recognition for Ott. Cal was also recognized as the best running team of the week on 24/7 sports, due to Jaydn Ott. Hope he gets more national attention. If was in the SEC he'd be a household name by now. More Ott-fense, please/

I think the Huskies will crush the Bruins and everyone will say "see, I knew UCLA wasn't that good" on Monday.
See, I knew Washington wasn't that good.
Yep, you totally called that one.
Yup. They gave up a 40 spot to Chip & Company via the tight end who transferred from Duke. They clawed back but it was too late. The interceptions by Penix threw dirt on the casket.
Well I think most people don’t believe ucla is very good because despite being 4-0 and a name brand with a known HC they aren’t ranked.

I think that would look great
I also thought it meant the polar bear look with the white helmet, but was assured when I saw the blue helmet.
I like white on white or white on blue, but I don't like white top on gold pants.
Gold helmets, white top, gold pants would be a great look.

Yup, Let's see more national recognition for Ott. Cal was also recognized as the best running team of the week on 24/7 sports, due to Jaydn Ott. Hope he gets more national attention. If was in the SEC he'd be a household name by now. More Ott-fense, please/
