Oh Dagger!! That’s the horror story - my Nana Chitwood tossed Pa Chitwood’s in the furnace when he went away to Cal in the late 60’s….pains me to this day.
As someone that recently went through and thinned out my old baseball card collection from the ‘80’s, I just wonder how lucrative the trading card market figures to be as all things print seem to be on the way out.
Topps leaned into doing virtual cards, NFTs, and whatnot and it seems to be paying off. The industry seems to be having a resurgence after a lull. I haven't collected since the '90s because the market just got too saturated and overrun by speculators. But that's a feature instead of a bug now.
I'd at least go through them if you haven't already...I found a Rickey and a Reggie card from the early '80's that are actually worth something.
But my hopes of a big payday were dashed when I found that I had like 19 Tom Glavine Donruss rookie cards and they were worth about a dollar apiece...I mean, if a 300 game-winning, Hall of Famer's rookie card was worth about a buck, than what's the point in holding on to thousands of Luis Polonia and Pat Sheridan-type cards.
You could also try selling them for whatever you can get...but I'd make sure there's no smoking gun in there first....
Ok. Thanks. These things just take up space. I thought about a having a bonfire just to be done with the stuff, but I would still have the ashes to contend with.
more maintenance than improvement, but I was up on our 2nd floor roof cleaning a blocked gutter down drain a couple weeks ago. ended up needing to use the toilet snake to clear it.
Just had my downstairs bathroom renovated with new granite walls in the shower. It turns out the guys installing the granite let it sit on the edge of the shower floor for too long so the weight of the stuff snapped an old pipe underneath the floor. I found out because water was leaking through the wall into the adjacent room. When the emergency plumber guy came out he pointed out the problem, then when he tried to replaced the drain pipe he found out it is a 1" pipe diameter which has to be special ordered. So it was ordered but because of the supply chain problem there is no ETA. Downstairs shower is out of commission. Aaargghhh.
I feel MUCH better now - the current dishwasher was in the house when we purchased in 2007. It's just decided to start leaving more crap on items on the top shelf no matter what parts we clean etc., and I'm getting tired of doing remedial cleaning by hand
First one: Fisher Paykel - two drawers - remains my wife's favorite, but it died.
Second one: LG that never worked right according to my wife. Didn't toss it, some tenant with be re-gifted with it.
Third one: Did some research, highly rated KitchenAid, which worked great until it started leaking, and ruined the kitchen floor. Got it repaired, replaced the floor, but then it started leaking again! ARRRRGGGG!
Recently installed a smart thermostat and electronic deadbolt. Also replaced a shower cartridge in one the bathrooms. Nothing too difficult but things I don't do very often, so it's nice when everything works like it is supposed to when finished.
We had marble countertop installed in our kitchen. I knew marble stained easily but I had no idea how easily. A grain of rice fell on the countertop. I immediately wiped it off. The next morning, a dark, grain-sized oil stain was present.
Given how easily it stains (there are other stains on it now as well), I'm pretty sure it was not sealed. Is it even possible to remove stains, then seal it?
In three days, I am closing on the my new house. That afternoon, I am building a 4x8' pegboard for my tools, framed by 1x8x8 for shelving. So I'm prepping now. I used the leftover exterior latex trim paint from my current house to paint the shelves. Cheap, cheerful, and functional. I wanted the pegboard to match all my interior doors, which are being painted "storm cloud", so I went to go to the local Sherwin Williams to get a gallon. I'm thinking "I get interior paint sample all the time and they cost only like $10. Let's go exterior paint since it's gotta withstand tools being put on it. " They ring it up. $74. D'oh.
Paint is surprisingly expensive. We bought Benjamin Moore when doing interior painting back around 2005. Another of or friends had done a whole bunch of testing and research and found it to be the best in terms of look, coverage, etc. Could cover with just 1 coat of paint. At the time it was almost $50/gallon. But I didn't have to do 2 coats so I guess it was worth it. And it did look very nice. I imagine it's probably $100/can now.

Wife went to go double check that they built the fridge cove big enough. Height and width were good. But she blue taped off how deep it would be, just in case. The fridge jutted out about a foot toward the kitchen island. Add in the room needed to swing open the doors and to stand in front of the fridge, and there's not enough room.
Post-mortem lessons learned: I shouldn't have assumed that all standard fridges are just a few inches bigger than 25.5. New LG standard fridge is 36.25 inches deep. We have an LG fridge and LG washer and dryer. All are glitchy. The fridge at one time was spewing water from the dispenser. I unhooked it and a few days later it was working fine. I will definitely be looking for something other than LG in the future.
GE fridge here. Last summer it stopped working so the GE guy came out and pointed out that the fan was frozen in a block of ice, also the wall between the fridge and the freezer was frozen. Went out and bought a new top opening freezer from the appliance store and moved stuff into the garage where I put the new freezer. The fridge had to be thawed out for 72 hours before re-starting. Still working but it was a tough few days as the temperatures were in the mid-90's that week.
Sounds like an identical problem. I was too impatient to wait for a thaw so I pulled the interior casing, carefully chunked out as much ice as I could, then stood there with a blow dryer to melt the rest.

yup. twice just to confirm. last night and then this morning. Luckily no one else has. Though my mom has cold symptoms and is going to John Muir tomorrow to get a PCR test.
Probably got it from the Warriors game. Though No 1 and 2 didn't. Always had my mask on except when eating. So maybe then? Also gave blood but unless the person doing it had it it I was socially distant from anyone else.
the county school system has been saying that they would close individual schools based on positive test rates / teachers & staff being quarantined for the 'rona. First group of schools got announced today and they're all elementary and middle schools in the more conservative and more working class areas of the county, which intuitively makes sense for odds of exposure / reservations about getting younger kids vaccinated.
Had to cancel a face-to-face appointment with a designer who insisted she had recurring bronchitis. I didn't trust her because she's a bible-thumping, gun-totin' type, who has a big family. My instinct was correct. She has Covid, her second time with it.
Early indications in SF are that the Omicron wave may have already crested there, with minimal impact to hospitals. Not a sure thing yet, but I'd expect events to go on as expected.
I'd guess that still might happen. Stuff is nowhere near as shut down as I'd expect given the case numbers, which hopefully will have started to recede a little by then.
I too am surprised things haven't shutdown, or at least been reduced, like dine in capacity. I wonder if some of it is because most in the area are vaccinated so maybe there aren't as many ICU beds being taken up with Omicron.

Christian Erikson - Denmark's national captain who collapsed and needed to be defibrillated on the pitch in 2020 - gives his thanks. If you recall, this was an especially horrible situation because the video crew of the game did not break away. They actually zoomed in. They showed the trainers performing chest compressions on his limp body while his teammates are trying to form a human wall while clutching their mouths in horror. People in the stands cry and averting their eyes. A minute in, they show his wife freaking out.
Najee's oh by the way 38 yard td on 3rd and 2 with under a minute left won fantasy football titles for people across the country....unless they were playing against Ja'Marr Chase....
Ben's been done since the elbow injury in 2019...he's no longer an NFL caliber starting QB...hasn't been the past 2 years....but he's still a tiger in the nightclub bathroom...too soon???
I was thinking of getting tickets for Pistons/Warriors Tues Jan 18th (I think) for No 3's Christmas present (he couldn't go with us when I took No 1 and 2) and they were only $80 resale. I was thinking that might be Klay's return if he doesn't play on Sunday.
2 novels can change a 14 year old’s life: Lord of the Rings & Atlas Shrugged. One is a fantasy that engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adult, unable to deal with the real world. The other has orcs.
When they realize that he’s just a football player, nothing more.
While I may not agree with his politics & vaccination stance, at the end of the day, he’s just a helluva ballplayer that is responsible for some of my most enjoyable Cal football fan experiences, specifically the ‘03 SC & Insight bowl games & the 2004 season.
Personally, I love the guy and don’t give two schitts what book is on his shelf....Cal doesn’t have enough elite NFL ambassadors to vilify him over trivial, stupid schitt.
Plus he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the damn game, and if that helps make good players want to go to Cal, that’s great.
The only thing that bothers me about him is when he spouts anti-vax misinformation, which directly contributes to bad public health. I don't give a crap about the books on his shelf.
Again, he's just a football player... possibly the most physically gifted one to ever play the game at that...he's not who people should be turning to for their health advice.
Charles Darwin had a whole theory to describe those who do.
He did give us a new locker room and scholarship in 2019. Things seemed to be on the up and up at that time with Rodgers' approval of Wilcox.
But there could be a permanent rift now. You'd have to think that when he made his "woke mob" comments he did so knowing his former school in large part represents the kind of progressive and liberal thinking he was defensively railing against and wants nothing to do with.
But times change and people change all the time, so who knows..
Your typical person thinks about coaches doing the recruiting. Guys like Cherrington are the guys that keep in touch on a day-to-day basis, calling, relating with the recruits,... shooting the shit. Kids are funny. If you call less, they think they aren't wanted and they take it personally. While I feel bad that Cherrington doesn't get to stay at his alma mater, I'm glad to have him back.
I think we need to be clear that any Gen Z'er could do that job. Millennials are one generation older and they are not guaranteed to be social media wizards.

What did you do with the cards?
I kept the ones that may have some semblance of value, of varying degrees, and donated the rest.
A 16x16x16 box worth of mostly Donruss & Score cards went to Goodwill.
Yeah, I have several boxes of the things, I just don’t know what to do with them. Thanks.
I'd at least go through them if you haven't already...I found a Rickey and a Reggie card from the early '80's that are actually worth something.

that's a good question. Perhaps we should ask our resident slumlord how he removes stains from marble.
Don't take his expertise for granite!
When did you turn into a dad?
You think I put in marble? No fucking way, granite or quartz.
heh...is it price or maintainability? It seems like Quartz would be the way to go in terms of maintenence.

Probably depends which level Benjamin Moore paint you buy right? I'd imagine you don't get the best for your units.
I do!
we FINALLY got our Subzero fridge after waiting for 9 months.
i wouldnt quite call it home improvement because i didnt really do anything aside from opening the door for the installers.
also. we were just replacing a fridge of almost the identical specs so no kitchen work had to be done.
still, nice to have it after waiting thru many delays

A few years ago, I got an LG from Home Depot. It died a few years later. Found out that LG doesn't honor the warranty if the serial number isn't on the receipt, and Home Depot didn't put serial numbers on the receipt.
I did have an LG W/D for a couple of years until I moved and had no problems with it. I guess their W/D are much better than their fridges.
I know I'm never buying an LG fridge again.
I also had LG W/D, and those were fine. Also doing OK with LG TV.
I think the LG TVs are supposed to be good. I went with TCL because Costco had it on clearance a year or two ago. About 185 for a 55" TV. Went in intending to buy a Sony for 599 but when I saw this deal it was too good to pass up.
We ran into this also. And with many brands, counter depth holds a lot less than standard.
Counterdepth=pay a lot more money for a lot less fridge.
Yes. The manufacture's excuse is that they use more expensive and thinner insulation, to try to give you a little more space. In our case, with supply chain problems, we got what we were able to get, which was not our first choice.

36" DEEP? That's insane!!!
20-21 I built a 24X16 covered patio, replaced all my supply line plumbing, remodeled one bathroom, and landscaped a large area of my yard with a deck, pavers, fencing, and a hot tub. Now that we are on day 9 of no power at home, my wife is hoping we can have an earnest discussion about getting a wood burning stove, which of course, is work that I will be doing. UCLA is in the pack for Caleb Williams
https://247sports.com/Article/Caleb-Williams-transfer-destination-UCLA-a-school-to-watch-179783624/
And if Williams goes to USC, one can probably expect that Jaxson Dart and Miller Moss will be in the transfer portal.
Miller Moss to Cal?
I would take Dart over Moss in terms of preference but I would gladly take Moss
Wasn’t Moss thinking about Cal before committing to USC?
He was.
DTR still has eligibility?!? I thought he was 47 years old!
This is bad news for Chase Garbers’ already-slim draft prospects.
Maybe it's Chase's way of saying he's not playing anymore without saying he's not playing anymore.
i think DTR has more upside to him than Chase despite being wildly erratic, but i don't see either of them being drafted.
I agree, but Chase is much more likely to land a third string/practice squad place for a couple seasons before dropping football.
Los Angeles and Oklahoma haven't been this intertwined since the Dust Bowl (the worst of all bowls).

A minute in, they show his wife freaking out.

really one of the worst things I've seen on tv - and ESPN cut the feed before other broadcasters did, as I recall.

WFT will announce their new mascot in four weeks. Whatever it is, it's going to suck.
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/washington-football-team-announces-when-it-will-reveal-new-team-name-with-two-names-officially-out-of-running/
I guess I shouldn't be too surprised by the military references among the names under consideration -
Armada
Brigade
Commanders
Defenders
My guess is that one of those names will become the new nickname for WFT. None of them are inspiring, at all.
The other names are similarly lame -
Redhogs
Presidents
and simply, WFT. Which should be simply seen as a typo of WTF. The WTF. It's also a fan chant! "WTF!? WTF?!"
WTF is so fitting. I really don't see why they don't just go with it.
They could be the WFT WTF.
They could get a good stadium chant going where half the stadium chants WFT followed by the other half chanting WTF.
LOL!
Sad that Red Tails did not make the cut.
I think they should go with Defenders and then hire Sonny Dykes in the celebration of irony.
"Whatever it is, it's going to suck."
Of that there is no doubt. I am still holding our what little hope there is for a red potato. Then, they could keep their former moniker.
Steelers win thanks to Najee Harris and its defense and no thanks to Roethlisberger, who set this record.

Najee's oh by the way 38 yard td on 3rd and 2 with under a minute left won fantasy football titles for people across the country....unless they were playing against Ja'Marr Chase....
2 yards per completion, right?
Yeah. 2.7yds per completion. That’s bad.
Ben's been done since the elbow injury in 2019...he's no longer an NFL caliber starting QB...hasn't been the past 2 years....but he's still a tiger in the nightclub bathroom...too soon???

is that the game vs Durant/Nets? i was looking at that too since i was going to be in town ..

If he had been at Cal from the start he would have got this phase out of the way freshman year.
When will Aaron stop disappointing Cal fans?
I agree. He is fun to watch and gives me some pride as a Cal fan. I don’t agree with his stance on issues, but he is not a felon.
I do wish he would be more of a Cal ambassador.
Sure, no one should be listening to him. That doesn't mean I have to like him when he spouts off with that nonsense.
Reggie Robertson would like a word with you about '03 USC
Well, that's fair, g...Robertson was nails, esp in OT.
I will say that the Rodgers to Lyman hookup in Phoenix v Va Tech was such a joy to watch....
But I think he wants them to go to Butte
Why does Rodgers dislike Cal so much?
Tedford?
He did give us a new locker room and scholarship in 2019. Things seemed to be on the up and up at that time with Rodgers' approval of Wilcox.
But there could be a permanent rift now. You'd have to think that when he made his "woke mob" comments he did so knowing his former school in large part represents the kind of progressive and liberal thinking he was defensively railing against and wants nothing to do with.
But times change and people change all the time, so who knows..
By Tedford, you mean Cal's treatment of him?
Yeah
Maybe they should...it’s probably a better football program ;-)

LFG! Marshall Cherrington returns to Cal
https://twitter.com/brandonhuffman/status/1478160744764088322
Your typical person thinks about coaches doing the recruiting. Guys like Cherrington are the guys that keep in touch on a day-to-day basis, calling, relating with the recruits,... shooting the shit. Kids are funny. If you call less, they think they aren't wanted and they take it personally. While I feel bad that Cherrington doesn't get to stay at his alma mater, I'm glad to have him back.
Sounds like the easiest job on the planet. Just check in with HS kids via text, voicemail and social media?
Interacting with high school kids on social media does not sound like the easiest job on the planet to me...
Sounds like they just need to get a millenial to be the coordinator.
Seriously....pretty much ANY millenial could do that job.
I think we need to be clear that any Gen Z'er could do that job. Millennials are one generation older and they are not guaranteed to be social media wizards.
Big news.
