My mother dips peanut butter spoons into the mayonnaise jar, is weird. So like if you are at my parents’ house you can’t really use the mayonnaise bc it has streaks of peanut butter in it
Something I just learned yesterday: buffalo chicken on a burger
We had a bbq/potluck at the office yesterday. Someone grilled up some burgers but forgot to bring any toppings (not even condiments). Someone else had brought in a crock pot of buffalo chicken. A brave soul dumped a bunch of buffalo chicken on a burger, said it tasted quite good, and voila--a bunch of us enjoyed buffalo chicken burgers.
We learned at a tailgate several years back that putting macaroni and cheese on a pulled pork sandwich is absolutely delicious (H/T G.Oso and Dr. Mrs CALumbus Bear)
I was out reading the other day and had my Cal ball cap on the bench next to me. A guy walked by wearing a Cal polo shirt and noticed the cap. He stopped and we chatted briefly. He didn't go to Cal but said he had worked there. No Go Bears were exchanged.
On this day in 1935 in Memorial Stadium the Golden Bears defeated St. Mary’s 10-0. The contest was a defensive slog with the teams combining for 30 punts and only 150 yards of total offense. Ken Cotton’s nine yard run in the first quarter provided the game’s only touchdown. This was the third consecutive victory for Cal head coach Stub Allison in his first of ten years as head coach. In his first four seasons in charge the Bears would go a combined 35-7-1 and win the 1938 Rose Bowl. Alas, Stub would not having any winning seasons in any of his last six years at the helm.

No doubt, 30 punts is way beyond the norm in today's game. 30 punts, though, is a small amount compared to the NCAA record for most punts in one game. That record is 77 punts on November 11, 1939, Texas Tech vs Centenary in Shreveport, LA. The final score of the game was a 0-0 tie.
There was bad blood between the two teams from the 1937 contest in which four Centenary players were injured, two requiring hospitalization. The Texas Tech captain was ejected for "seeking to use his fist," as the Shreveport Times reported.
Days of rain prior to the game had made the field a soggy mess. To make matters worse, the rain didn't let up on that Saturday. Trying to move the ball forward in such conditions risked losing yardage and ultimately field position.
So, the teams traded punt after punt, opting to attempt to gain yardage only 33 times in 85 possessions.
Man, I was so happy at that game, but a small % sad too since we watched the whole game with a friend of my son's (who is a nice guy), and it made it kinda insane.
What does it mean that they are headquartered in Oakland but play at Chase? Weird concept, who cares where the admin stuff is done, not sure fans care about anything other than where the games are
I think it means that the team practices at the former GSW practice facility in downtown Oakland at the Marriott. Which is probably where, as you note, the admin offices are also located.
D-backs win series by coming from behind to beat the Brewers 5-2. Arizona only had 6 hits and the Brewers only issued 3 walks, but six (4 hits, 2 walks) came in crucial 6th inning.
Rays going down so fast in particular is wild, as they seemed unbeatable in the first half. Of course, it didn’t help that their franchise cornerstone became a pederast
LSU's team captain and former starting safety is recovering from brain surgery. Doctors removed a tumor, which has now been identified as medulloblastoma. LSU launched a fan-funded trust to help pay for his medical bills.
Ole Miss fined $75k by the SEC for fans throwing trash onto the field during the game vs. LSU. This was on top of a $100k fine for fans rushing the field after the victory. Ole Miss may also review their alcohol sales policy, but I suspect that won't get touched.
A candidate for worst movie of the year….Reptile. Decent cast with Benicio and Timberlake. Focking horrid. Slow, boring and lots of poor performances, like Newellbany’s sex life.
Only Murders in the Building (S3 E10) - Hulu 18/19 WB. What a strong ending to the season. The final three episodes were superb. On a related note: the series has been renewed for Season 4
ESPN purged a bunch of their personalities. My gym shows ESPN and the NFL Network. Both have resorted to playing hot-take BS shows during off-hours in order to fill the 24-hour cycle and it's terrible. Pat McAfee - who got promoted after the purge - is unbearable.

I stopped because 1) I was watching Euro soccer in the same time window, and 2) SC wasn't interesting enough to get any coverage, and I'm sad the network has wrecked it, but at least I didn't see it going downhill.
Yep. It's fun to watch the first few minutes to see the signs. But once they start talking and getting into the human-interest segments it's a hard pass
I know this unmasks me as an oldie but I hate it when a news article is only on video or worse, when video starts auto playing on a website (like sfgate). Just give me the text so I can scan quickly for relevant info and cut all the bullshit
yeah, their pregame show is better so I fear eventually I’ll have to patronize the network that holds the B1G purse strings for my college football pregame fix.
Flavor combination that just works
Dad used to sprinkle sugar on tomatoes and eat them out of hand (like an apple). No one else in the family found this appetizing.
My Cal roommate seasoned her cottage cheese with soy sauce and shredded carrots. Worked for her.
Walnuts and port.
A surfer on acid: equal parts Malibu Rum, pineapple juice, and Jaeger. Yum!
That sounds like something from a horrendous frat party.
figs and goat cheese
My mother dips peanut butter spoons into the mayonnaise jar, is weird. So like if you are at my parents’ house you can’t really use the mayonnaise bc it has streaks of peanut butter in it
I... ma... pean... gah. Dafuq?
Cottage cheese and tortilla chips, ideally Tostitos.

Come this weekend for the meatball sammies and Caesar salad
Sweet(ish) coleslaw on a pulled pork sandwich is standard in Carolina
I've had a pretty good buffalo chicken salad. I think I asked for bleu cheese dressing. It was really good.
Maybe next time try buffalo chicken on a buffalo/bison burger
a thick slice of mozzarella cheese w/ ketchup
everyone in my family thinks i am nuts for having this as a pre-dinner or while-cooking snack.
while i dont love ketchup usually, i like this ...
That’s pretty odd!
I'd substitute Dijon mustard for the ketchup, but that's just me. I prefer ketchup on my roasted potato spears.
nice, will try that next time
A little bit of Dijon goes a long way with cheese.
similar to this: a real slice of cheddar cheese on regular or lime tortilla chips. sort of like a homemade Doritos nacho cheese chip.
Not sorta like a nacho cheese chip. That is literally a nacho, homie.

30 punts is a LOT
Punting is winning
No doubt, 30 punts is way beyond the norm in today's game. 30 punts, though, is a small amount compared to the NCAA record for most punts in one game. That record is 77 punts on November 11, 1939, Texas Tech vs Centenary in Shreveport, LA. The final score of the game was a 0-0 tie.

All of the foregoing is but a mere summary. For a better description, see this article from The Athletic here - https://theathletic.com/2917111/2021/10/28/the-worst-college-football-game-ever-77-punts-33-plays-and-the-growing-legend-of-a-record-setting-0-0-tie/
A lot is relative.

That might be my favorite game of the Dykes era. Such a fun, wacky game.
Man, I was so happy at that game, but a small % sad too since we watched the whole game with a friend of my son's (who is a nice guy), and it made it kinda insane.
But of course, a win is better!
Great game!!!

ESPN purged a bunch of their personalities. My gym shows ESPN and the NFL Network. Both have resorted to playing hot-take BS shows during off-hours in order to fill the 24-hour cycle and it's terrible. Pat McAfee - who got promoted after the purge - is unbearable.
makes me glad i'm too cheap to pay for cable.

Thank goodness for W4C. 😉
McAfee was as close as ESPN could get to Barstool without actually being associated with Barstool. He’s a complete douche.
I used to live for College Gameday -- it was the best pregame show in the business. It's completely unwatchable now.
I was more of a ESPN CFB Final guy myself because I never really cared for the human interest stories and I like watching highlights of all the games.
I stopped because 1) I was watching Euro soccer in the same time window, and 2) SC wasn't interesting enough to get any coverage, and I'm sad the network has wrecked it, but at least I didn't see it going downhill.
Yea - To us it's that one new guy who sorta ruins it.
Yep. It's fun to watch the first few minutes to see the signs. But once they start talking and getting into the human-interest segments it's a hard pass
Agree, though I will watch it again if they come here! 😀
the website is nearly unreadable as well focusing mostly on video clips and retweets.

Now it all makes sense. ESPN has decided to go with the Fox News model in their programming.
Fuck you Rupert Murdoch. Fuck you ESPN honchos, whoever you are.
Which is ironic because Fox’s pregame football show is actually decent and better than ESPN.
yeah, their pregame show is better so I fear eventually I’ll have to patronize the network that holds the B1G purse strings for my college football pregame fix.
Oy.
Long ago I quit watching ESPN except for live game coverage. From snippets I've seen online, McAfee is indeed terrible.
McAfee is terrible and A Rodgers is partially to blame for his rise.
McAfee is basically the CFB version of Joe Rogan.
Yeah my office has espn on in the break room and that dumb motherfucker is on seemingly half the day, barf
Same. Likewise, I never use their site except for live scores and boxscores.
