This is the 70th anniversary of the last of Pappy Waldorf’s six straight winning seasons. And this it the 100th anniversary of the third of Andy Smith’s Wonder Teams. The ’22 squad outscored opponents 398-34 while going unbeaten.

It’s just a pre-seasoned, brined and fully cooked turkey with their Cajun seasoning. It taste great and isn’t dry at all. I used the leftover to basically make a turkey Cajun soup.
Turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, either sweet potatoes or preferably yams candied with marshmallows, hot rolls with butter, celery sticks with cream cheese, Green beans are optional, but there needs to be some green veggie, and the family recipe for green beans is pretty hard to beat. And 2 pies, one pumpkin, and one for those who aren't big fans of pumpkin.
There once was a recipe, but now I just mostly wing it.
I make it in my KitchenAid mixer, so I don't defrost the ice cream at all. If you have a less powerful mixer, you probably want to let the ice cream sit out for 20 minutes or so before starting. Beat 1 qt vanilla (not vanilla bean, you need a French vanilla type) ice cream until it's soft. Add most of a can of defrosted Minute Maid lemonade concentrate, until you like the lemony-ness and sweetness. I recommend adding half, tasting, and then adding more bit by bit until you're happy. Beat in a small container of mostly defrosted Cool Whip. Dump it all in a graham cracker crust, swirl the top to make it pretty and put it in the freezer for a few hours. Cut and serve!
Graham cracker crust: ~8 sheets of graham cracker, half a stick of melted butter, 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar. If you have a food processor, throw in the graham crackers and pulse until they're finely ground. Add the melted butter and sugar and pulse until it's all thoroughly mixed and a bit wet. Dump into a pie dish (or a springform pan is great for this) and pack down with the bottom of a drinking glass or measuring cup. Bake at 375 for about 15 minutes until it smells great and is a little bit brown. Let cool before putting the filling in.
If you don't have a food processor, put the graham crackers in a gallon ziploc bag, seal it and roll over them with a rolling pin (or wine bottle or other heavy, cylindrical object) until they're crumbs. Add butter and sugar, reseal and shake the mix until it's all combined and damp. Proceed as above.

I would have played it conservatively and kicked the extra point. Assuming Carlson makes it, you're tied. The Raiders got a defensive stop and the ball back with about 2 minutes to play. All you have to do is get in position for a game-winning FG. If not, you go to OT.

Sorry to see the Raiders having so much trouble winning games but Davante Adams cannot be allowed to commit assault and battery because of it. Why was this guy not immediately apprehended? I think it's pretty unlikely, at least for a while more. It was easy to fire the guys before Harbaugh because they had no connection to the university and they were spectacularly bad. Shaw is an alum who took them to the Rose Bowl. That will earn you almost a lifetime contract at a lot of places. If Stanfurd cares about football (that's a big if), they can't afford to replace a proven success that everyone seems to like for an unknown guy.
It will be interesting to see what happens with a lot of sports things on the farm. John Arrillaga died earlier this year, and he funded a huge amount of their program. As far as I'm aware, he only had one kid, a daughter who is married to Marc Andreesen, who focuses almost all of her philanthropy on an organization that educates and encourages people to be more strategic and impactful with their philanthropy. She is however an alum who teaches at the GSB so maybe she will continue to give to athletics at the same level her father did -- remains to be seen.
John Arrillaga's importance to Stanf*rd Athletics cannot be overstated. He was the prime mover and shaker behind the rebuild of Stanf*rd Stadium. It was his construction company that executed the demolition and rebuild and did so while working 16 hours a day during the run of the project from just after the Notre Dame game in 2005 until opening day in 2006. That's right, Arrillaga's construction team pulled off that project in *1 off-season*. Basically within a 9-month window. Arrillaga also funded more than $100 million of that project.
I remember checking in with the stadium webcams from time to time on the internet. It was fascinating how quickly everything moved.

Speaking of landscaping. I need some advice because my wife and I have a minor disagreement on backyard landscaping. We live in San Diego and the drought it terrible so I want to remove our grass in our backyard and install fake grass. She is against it and wants to keep the real grass, her reasoning being that fake grass is just as bad for the environmental as real grass.
She has also recommended just going with a desert or xeriscape and putting in DG.
I wouldn’t mind a DG/xeriscape but we have two small kids (4 and 2) and they play in the backyard a lot because it is a backyard and we have a kids swing set, hence why I want the fake grass.
What say you DBD? What would you do if you had two small kids and lived in San Diego and dealing with climate change.
I have a similar conundrum and was thinking of possibly going with pavers. Little cobblestone-style courtyard thing.
Downside of fake grass is it gets hot in the sun and you have to wear shoes to be on it, so if your yard is really sunny like mine it is not ideal. If you have good shade though, the fake grass works well. Agree with you on the desert landscape stuff - is fine for DINKs but if you have kids it renders your yard useless.
I am not a fan of fake grass. Even the stuff that uses rubber pellets to help simulate the way blades appear and provide some cushioning like sod does.
Sand may be one possible substitute for grass in the swingset area. Unfortunately, sand gets *everywhere* and will get tracked indoors. I doubt that you or your wife would like that.
Maybe limit the grass to the area around the swingset (3 or 4 foot border)?
I have DG around the swing set. I am against sand and DG because I also have a pool in my backyard so that means between kids feet and wind, a lot of that will end up in my pool.

Ferguson was really struggling last couple of weeks of the season. Will be interesting ot see what Treinen and May can give.
Hanser's biggest role was as a dugout guy (and I'm not minimizing it - he was amazing) but he wasn't hitting very well. I'm definitely ok with no Kimbrel. He was even less reliable than Kenley down the stretch.
Lost in the post game shove was the disastrous decision by Josh McDaniels to go for 2 rather kick the extra point and tie the game with 4:30 left in play. I thought that was the second dumbest decision by a NFL coach this week, with the dumbest being Staley decision to go it on 4th and 1 against the Browns.

Sorry to see the Raiders having so much trouble winning games but Davante Adams cannot be allowed to commit assault and battery because of it. Why was this guy not immediately apprehended? When I get frustrated at work it might not even be okay for me to throw my hat, but if I literally push someone down who gets in my way, I would be fired on the spot.

I think it's pretty unlikely, at least for a while more. It was easy to fire the guys before Harbaugh because they had no connection to the university and they were spectacularly bad. Shaw is an alum who took them to the Rose Bowl. That will earn you almost a lifetime contract at a lot of places. If Stanfurd cares about football (that's a big if), they can't afford to replace a proven success that everyone seems to like for an unknown guy.
It will be interesting to see what happens with a lot of sports things on the farm. John Arrillaga died earlier this year, and he funded a huge amount of their program. As far as I'm aware, he only had one kid, a daughter who is married to Marc Andreesen, who focuses almost all of her philanthropy on an organization that educates and encourages people to be more strategic and impactful with their philanthropy. She is however an alum who teaches at the GSB so maybe she will continue to give to athletics at the same level her father did -- remains to be seen.
John Arrillaga's importance to Stanf*rd Athletics cannot be overstated. He was the prime mover and shaker behind the rebuild of Stanf*rd Stadium. It was his construction company that executed the demolition and rebuild and did so while working 16 hours a day during the run of the project from just after the Notre Dame game in 2005 until opening day in 2006. That's right, Arrillaga's construction team pulled off that project in *1 off-season*. Basically within a 9-month window. Arrillaga also funded more than $100 million of that project.
I remember checking in with the stadium webcams from time to time on the internet. It was fascinating how quickly everything moved.
Despite the stadium being rather boring and basic, that is still an insane accomplishment.

Speaking of landscaping. I need some advice because my wife and I have a minor disagreement on backyard landscaping. We live in San Diego and the drought it terrible so I want to remove our grass in our backyard and install fake grass. She is against it and wants to keep the real grass, her reasoning being that fake grass is just as bad for the environmental as real grass.
She has also recommended just going with a desert or xeriscape and putting in DG.
I wouldn’t mind a DG/xeriscape but we have two small kids (4 and 2) and they play in the backyard a lot because it is a backyard and we have a kids swing set, hence why I want the fake grass.
What say you DBD? What would you do if you had two small kids and lived in San Diego and dealing with climate change.
I have a similar conundrum and was thinking of possibly going with pavers. Little cobblestone-style courtyard thing.
Downside of fake grass is it gets hot in the sun and you have to wear shoes to be on it, so if your yard is really sunny like mine it is not ideal. If you have good shade though, the fake grass works well. Agree with you on the desert landscape stuff - is fine for DINKs but if you have kids it renders your yard useless.
Yeah, I would love a DG and xeriscape lawn when the kids are older and the swing set is gone but that is still 12 years away.

I am not a fan of fake grass. Even the stuff that uses rubber pellets to help simulate the way blades appear and provide some cushioning like sod does.
Sand may be one possible substitute for grass in the swingset area. Unfortunately, sand gets *everywhere* and will get tracked indoors. I doubt that you or your wife would like that.
Maybe limit the grass to the area around the swingset (3 or 4 foot border)?
I have DG around the swing set. I am against sand and DG because I also have a pool in my backyard so that means between kids feet and wind, a lot of that will end up in my pool.
I read an article on a fantastic drought friendly (beautiful) front garden in LA recently, that had a patch of green that looked like grass but was actually something else that needs hardly any water. Let me see if I can find it.
IMO, you just can't have a lawn anymore. This water situation is never fixing itself, and we have to find other solutions.

Been enjoying "welcome to Wrexham" although the pacing could be described as deliberate - like they had a deal for X episodes but really only had like 0.75X worth of content.
I was watching the latest House of Dragons episode on Sunday evening and about 1/3 of the way through decided that was enough and turned it off. Not sure if / when I'll bother returning to it, as it stands, I just lost interest.
Started watch The Affair - got to episode 3 last night; I think it is a very powerful serious show.
Also finished episode 10 of session 2 of Reservation Dogs, I have loved this season so much, one of my faves.
I saw Hassan Minhaj’s new comedy special on Netflix - pretty funny! He should get a show again somehow; his delivery and timing are quite good, and he does not rely on grossness or nastiness for laughs, so has quite broad appeal.
Saw him at UCSD while he was still workshopping the new act. I'll be curious to see what's changed since then.
No 3 and I went to his show in SJ. It was really good. Both he and Trevor Noah (at Chase Center) were great.
I think he, Aziz, and Chappelle are probably the funniest stand ups at the moment.
