The 49ers looked like a team missing its starting offensive tackles, cornerbacks, three defensive linemen, safety, running back, and linebacker. We know this team was banged up coming into today, but it looked like a preseason game at times.
Atlanta scored on its opening drive after marching 11 plays for 74 yards. They went up two scores after Jeff Wilson fumbled trying to reach the ball for a first down. That’s a no-no, and he paid for it.
San Francisco ended up punting the ball, and they did on their following possession. The Falcons didn’t struggle to move the ball as they scored on nine plays in just over five minutes to take a two-possession lead.
Jaylinn Hawkins had a pick and a fumble recovery TD in the endzone.

SAN FRANCISCO – Cal's Yuta Kikuchi capped an excellent run in the annual KPSF Open with an appearance in the final on Sunday at the Goldman Tennis Center, with the Golden Bear falling to pro player Govind Nanda. The Golden Bears had a strong showing overall in the outdoor 40K tournament, with six current Cal men's tennis players – Kikuchi, Alex Chang, John Kim, Lucas Magnaudet, Carl Emil Overbeck and Mikey Wright – along with alumnus Sean Hill competing in Golden Gate Park.
Chang, Kikuchi and Magnaudet along with Hill won in the opening round of 32 on Oct. 12, and then Hill and Kikuchi – who defeated Chang, 6-4, 6-3 – advanced out of the round of 16 on Oct. 13.

Just like many other Golden Bear matches of late, however, this particular one was characterized by a rough first set and two subsequent highly competitive sets that only just fell outside of Cal's reach. With the help of Wildcat senior Zyonna Fellows' career-high 12 blocks, Arizona was able to stop their skid and defeat the Bears, 3-0.

BERKELEY – Sophomore Max Casabella scored four goals – including a pivotal score on a penalty shot with less than two minutes to play – and the No. 2 Cal men's water polo team held off No. 5 USC 14-10 on Saturday afternoon in its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener at a raucous Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Casabella's final goal gave the Bears (14-1, 1-0) a 12-10 lead with 1:40 to go after the Trojans had cut a three-goal deficit to one. Cal goalie Adrian Weinberg then came up with a key save on USC's ensuing possession, and a goal by senior Marko Valecic put the game out of reach for the Bears.
Fifth-year senior Jack Deely registered three goals and three assists while sophomore Roberto Valera had three goals and two assists.

BERKELEY - The California men's soccer team held a 1-1 tie with visiting San Francisco at halftime of their Saturday game at Edwards Stadium, but the Dons added four more in the second half, and the Golden Bears fell, 5-1.
Cal's record stands at 3-5-4. USF has a 7-3-2 record.
"It's embarrassing to lose that way at home," said Cal head coach Leonard Griffin, coaching against USF for the first time since leaving his head coaching post with the Dons in 2021. "We have to take a hard look at ourselves in the mirror and try to figure out what are the next steps moving forward. There are still a lot of games to be played and a lot of games in conference. We have to pick the group back up and try to make progress."

PULLMAN, Wash. – Junior Isabelle Stadden set a pool record in the 100-yard backstroke and senior Eloise Riley was a four-time winner as the Cal women's swimming & diving team defeated Washington State 167-94 in a Pac-12 dual meet at Gibb Pool on Saturday morning.
Stadden, who won the bronze medal in the 100 back at the Phillips 66 National Championships last summer, finished the race in 53.90 – eclipsing the previous Gibb Pool record of 54.37 set last year by Utah's Ema Broome. She also helped the Bears set another pool record in the 400 freestyle relay as she teamed up with Riley, McKenna Stone and Ayla Spitz for a time of 3:21.92. That mark shattered the previous record 3:24.33 set by Utah last season.
Not only did Riley also swim the anchor leg on Cal's winning 200 medley relay team that finished in a time of 1:41.59, she claimed victories in the 50 free (23.55) and 100 free (50.53). Riley also won the 100 free during the Bears' dual meet victory over Utah on Wednesday.

Cal's three pairs swept through the doubles round of 32. The two Golden Bears then advanced to Monday with an 8-3 victory over Washington's eighth-seeded Sarah-Maude Fortin and Astrid Olsen in the quarterfinals.
The Bears' second-seeded Jessica Alsola and Katja Wiersholm defeated Orgon's Jo-Yee Chan and Lillian Mould, 8-3, in the round of 16, before beating the Cardinal's Valencia Xu and Sara Choy, 8-4, in the quarters.

SUNNYVALE – California cross country returned to competition on Saturday morning at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara. The women's squad took home 13th place overall, while the men's team took 15th.
Claire Yerby headlined the Bears' showing with her stellar performance in the women's 6,000-meter race. Yerby took 33rd place overall with her personal best time of 20:58, the mark being her fastest run by nearly two minutes.
"I felt great today, and knowing my teammates were out there with me really helped me keep pushing when it got tough," Yerby said.
On the men's side, Garrett MacQuiddy was the top Cal-finisher for the second-straight meet. MacQuiddy took 53rd place overall and crossed the line in 24:34.1

BBQ chicken, green salad, snow peas/mushrooms and a giant serving of bitter defeat.
One of the faves that my wife makes (generally only when it's fall etc...) a Black bean and chorizo soup - last night, but had to make the chorizo on Saturday to make it super tasty. definitely more spicy than usual, 'cause of different red peppers this time, you have it with some avocados cubes and graded cotija cheese for the top, some corn chips as snacks to deal with the heat, and some great red wine (for other people, sniff) to have with it.
one of our favorite seafood restaurants, Row 34 in Portsmouth NH.
we usually have lobster rolls for lunch there but this time it was a pleasant surprise to have a nice dinner and a larger menu.
it is a a bit far from home but were up there for a very short weekend
