These folks have no shame. Trump campaign spokeswoman argues Trump better equipped than Biden to fight virus because he has first hand experience and Biden doesn't. I guess he's also better equipped to handle sexual abuse since he's a serial abuser.

We are at about 210k deaths from this virus in the US.

This means we will pass the combat death level from the Civil War this week.

We are on pace to reach WW2 combat deaths near the end of this year.

And we may be at the Arlington National Cemetary level in early Q2 of next year.

Expand full comment

Fuji > Granny Smith

Expand full comment

Once upon a time I had a Granny Smith with lunch almost every day. Now I prefer Fuji. There is a cidery in Virginia that makes an alcoholic cider with Granny Smiths that is very good though.

Expand full comment

Galas are the best all-arounders in my opinion. I am not a fan of Honeycrisps at all.

Expand full comment

My old-growth legacy Gravenstein in the front yard produced some awfully good eating apples the last few years. The neighborhood deer will vouch for that.

Agreed.

Expand full comment

Also not all honeycrisps are the same. The best, in my opinion, are the squat ones that are not shiny. We had them in Kentucky but the only place I've seen them in the Bay Area is Berkeley Bowl. Maybe it's a regional Honeycrisp.

Also, Berkeley Bowl has Taylor Gold pears, which are similar in taste to Comice Pears. Didn't see them in other markets around here other than Berkeley Bowl. Berkeley Bowl has the best, most diverse produce.

Expand full comment

I always preferred Monterey Market for the down-home, no frills experience: Like a produce stand on steroids.

Expand full comment

I haven't been there in probably 20 years. I may have to go check it out. Is it like Berkeley bowl without the crowds? Although due to the pandemic it isn't as crowded as it used to be.

Expand full comment

Plus you can get pizza nearby https://www.gioiapizzeria.com/

Expand full comment

I haven't been in about 13 years, since I moved from Berkeley. It was crowded back then. But, with a limited offering of other grocery products outside of produce, it was quite easy to get in and out quickly as it isn't anywhere near the size of Berkeley Bowl.

Police evicted the SMU student section for not following mask or distancing protocols. Not sure showering Memphis players with beer wasn't a factor as well. But then copious quantities of beer in the student section has led to issues before, so probably shouldn't read too much into it this time.

I know that some schools have students in some large pods...IF those students are all from the same dorm, maybe it was okay. But that was more likely just the school being rather cavalier about the COVID protocols.

I'm a little surprised the police kicked the students out. I know it's the rules but It's Texas so I'm surprised. I wonder if they'll try to allow students into the next game because you know there will be students that try to do the same thing.
