Whats the story behind the old WFC "articles" on the dead CFGB site that I recently noticed?

Expand full comment
heyalumnigo's avatar

I'm guessing they removed all the new articles that the new guys wrote. Not sure why though.

Stubhub question.

Has anyone sold tickets on stubhub? I'm getting No 3 tickets for this bday to the NLDS game 1 or 2 in case the Dodgers win the Wild Card game. But if they lose, I'll sell them on stub hub. I figure I should at least be able to break even. Are there seller fees or is it just the buyer that pays the fees?

Expand full comment
O.Overall's avatar

There are fees but it is super easy

Expand full comment
heyalumnigo's avatar

Yeah that's what I noticed. It seems even easier for Giants tickets because you can list directly from their ticket page. I figure it should be easy to get at least my money back on them.

Expand full comment
heyalumnigo's avatar

oh convenient. It looks like I can list them on stubhub directly from the Giants ticket page. At least I can break even. Got tickets on the upper deck in the last section on the left field like right in the corner. Got them for 140 each. They're listed on stubhub for 190. Not sure what the seller fees are right now. I figure if I list them for 160 on Thurs if the Dodgers lose I'll break even and can sell quickly.

I was discussing with some friends that MLB should stop playing exhibition games in London as it is kind of a mindless imitation of NFL that makes no sense in light of market saturation and time zones. MLB should focus to the south instead. Games in Mexico City, Guadalajara, etc. with an eye toward four new teams in next 20ish years - two in Mexico and two in Caribbean

Expand full comment
heyalumnigo's avatar

I had forgotten that the MLB played in London. I do remember when they played in Australia. I think that trip is what caused Kershaw to start having back problems. He never had them until after that trip. I think it's kinda cool to go around the world as a 1 off series.

4 Latin American teams would be pretty cool but only if they add 2 US teams. The uneven teams in each league thing is annoying. I think either you do 2 US + 4 Latin American teams or just 2 Latin American teams.

O.Overall's avatar

That’s a good point, should get to even numbers. Or maybe just realign in some different way

Expand full comment
heyalumnigo's avatar

I guess if NL adds the DH (which they shouldn't) then there is no reason for the NL/AL separation. MLB umpires are no longer separate by league.

I still would prefer the NL not having the DH.

Expand full comment
Newellbany's avatar

Does anybody know why lightening caused a delay in a dome? Real question - not a set-up for a joke.

Expand full comment
GoldenSD81's avatar

It isn’t a fully enclosed dome. It has open air sides to the stadium so I believe that was the main concern and reason for the delay.

Expand full comment
Newellbany's avatar

could lightening really come down and turn, like, 90 degrees to get under the roof and zap somebody?

Cugel's avatar

YES! It happened in our home in Alabama, hit the TV, and turned it on permanently!

Expand full comment
Cugel's avatar

It wasn't that... but dang, I used to remember, but seem to have forgotten.

Expand full comment
GoldenSD81's avatar

I don’t know. The unclosed areas aren’t under the roof directly but more where they fans sit. I believe the outdoor areas have walkways that would expose people to potential lightning strikes. In San Diego, we had a ton of lightning strikes yesterday all over the city and county. It was very impressive.

I think robot umpires is a legit possibility.

Expand full comment
Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Yeah...you’re starting to see strike zone interpretation, and inconsistencies, really impact the game so that the HP ump is way too noticeable. As the game becomes more & more analytics-based & technological, and as the traditional un-written rules fall by the wayside except when Curmudgeon LaRussa is involved, it’s just a matter of time. The Cyclops machine in tennis is just the tip of the iceberg & can easily be adapted to the strike zone.
