The in-house Caesar dressing from Gus's Community Markets. Super tangy, just the right consistency. I've always liked the caesar dressing I make but this is way better.
Love the Korean BBQ kettle chips. They used to have Spicy Thai that I think has been discontinued. There also was a New York Cheddar that may have been replaced with Parmesean or something like that. But I love Kettle Chips.
My bro-in-law is starting to get into adult legos...only a matter of time, as my niece and nephews have literally every set ever offered on the market in the last decade.
The things that they build on that show are sometimes mindboggling. It's great to see a reality competition show that doesn't include drama that is bottom-of-the-barrel drivel. It's just fun.
On a side note...going to Legoland this weekend in SD as a makeup for not being able to do anything for my son's birthday last year because of the pandemic. Can't wait!
Just went to Legoland NY last weekend. It was very well done. Amazing Lego constructions, everywhere, and it was the perfect size park where it takes the whole day to do it all but it's not so big as to totally swamp you.
I grew up a Lego mania and when I heard that they built a Legoland in Carlsbad, I dreamed of going to California one day. Few years later I moved to Orange County from NY where I grew up, and now living so close to the dream Legoland, and I have never been to Legoland in 20 years that I've lived in California.
It's perfect for the 6-and-under (maybe 7) crowd. Took my then-5YO nephew on his first roller coaster at the one outside of London. One of my favorite days out with him -- he's 21 now. :-)

That's high praise for their porter, which I don't think I've tried. I've only had their lager and their Hershey's chocolate porter, both of which were okay.
Drinkability is important to me. Or, sessionability, as the euros would say. You know, beer that you can have a couple dozen of. For a dark beer, the Yuengling porter is super sessionable.

Booster left a sore spot for a couple days, but the flu shot, at least in combination with a cool, fall-like turn of the weather, has resulted in a bit of mild symptoms. I saw that NYT article comparing government spending here on childcare with other OECD countries. I shared it with my friends who have kids and we were discussing whether the USA is the best country to live in still. What do you guys think?
i think it is the best country for some things that fall into 2 camps
1 - opportunity to innovate and monetize it
2 - a constant pressure that pushes for more equality across the board
on the other hand i think that the system is by-definition unsustainable and the increase in income inequality which is due to #1 is going to crash the system one way ot another.
personally i would love to see some more care given to "the people" the expense of unlimited potential to make unlimited $$$ but then pair that with the steady progress in equality which is admittedly got a long way to go.
Can you share the article? Childcare is way too high. My monthly mortgage payment in $3k and my monthly childcare bill for two kids aged 1 and 3 is $2,700 a month. The sad thing is, the staff at my childcare center, while decently paid by industry standards, are by no means well paid or paid nearly enough to live comfortably in a HCOL city like San Diego.

Oh my lord, yes. Also there is a lot of research about it being a good investment even if a long term one, in terms of creating more productive, taxpaying citizens as the kids reach adulthood. That I think is how you convince people in our society to expand those benefits, not so much on values alone because if that were enough we would have already done it
It seems like the biggest obstacles would be Republicans fearmongering about taxpayer funds going to hordes of imaginary welfare queens and people who only have kids to reap the monetary benefits.
For myself, I would say it’s a personal decision obviously - no baseball in most other countries is a legit issue for me. But still, Australia, NZ, Canada, and several countries in Central and Western Europe are all up in the same band as USA. I also personally like Japan/Korea, but I have three school age daughters and would rather they grow up in a culture that was a bit better for women.

I went to the Carlsbad location maybe a decade ago. Definitely a good experience for the kids.

Santa Barbara is in the LA market so I get Angels games on Cox, and like most PbP guys employed by a franchise, he's a dreadful homer.

I imagine so. I jumped off the (band)wagon after the 2015 season when I decided not to renew my season tickets. Mrs Slug never misses an opportunity to remind me we flushed thousands on season tickets over nearly 30 years.
Does Mrs Slug think all spending on entertainment is flushing money? Buying Cal tickets doesn't seem much different from buying tickets to a concert or a play, from a budgetary perspective.

On the flip side, how often do you leave one of those events nauseous? Going to see Jason Isbell at the Ryman isn't gonna feel like someone punched me in the stomach. A visit to the Curran to see Les Mis isn't going to ruin my whole f-ing weekend!!!

In terms of Cal fandom 8 years feels like a lifetime ago. In 2013, Sonny Dykes was leading football to a 1-11 season, Mike Montgomery and the men's team upset 5-seed UNLV in the first round of the tourney, and Lindsay Gottlieb led the women's team to a Final Four appearance
Well football might be going full circle and finishing up another 1-11 season so time is indeed a flat circle for Cal fans.
Yeah between sports, politics, and my personal life (married in 14, kids in 17 and 20 and bought a house in 21) 2013 does feel like a lifetime ago.

Could have applied to me 8 weeks ago. That's pretty recent.
The difference for me is that i cannot watch when the game is over after three series. The Wash game was a gut punch, but we were in the game the whole way. The WSU game was over after the missed PAT, and it was obvious.
I would argue that the game was over 5 minutes later, after the blocked punt that somehow extended their drive.
But I agree - the kids played pretty quiet after that.
