A Spider Tailed Horned Viper (Pseudocerastes urarachnoides) has a bump on its tail plus specialized scales that look very much like a juicy spider. It uses its tail to lure in insectivorous birds within striking distance. It is endemic to western Iran.

Have you ever heard the saying that a lime is an unripe lemon? While unripe lemons are green and ripe limes are usually yellow, that's false. Lemons are a different species than limes. And there are different species of limes with all commercial version being hybrids - usually hybrids of hybrids of hybrids. The limes that you buy at the grocery store are almost certainly under-ripe "Persian limes". Persian lime is a grafted hybrid of a lemon and a key lime. The Key lime is itself a hybrid of the Phillipino Biasong fruit and Citron, a predecessor to a lemon. Key limes are named after the Florida keys, but they're weren't the first place they were planted. Limes are historically from Southeast Asia, but when a frost killed all the "Mexican lime" crop in Florida one year, they were replanted with the specific hybrid - so became named "Key Lime" in the US. The Calamansi, which tastes a bit like a key lime, is not closely related. It is actually a hybrid of a kumquat and a mandarin orange hybrid.
I've been buying them from Berkeley Bowl and seasoning them similar to the Din Tai Fung dish. peel, slice/cut, salt for maybe 30-60 min. drain the water. Rice vinegar, sesame oil, soy sauce, and some hot sauce.

There are 435 US House Seats, 218 to control. WaPo has called races such that 211 to GOP and 192 to DEM. GOP needs 7 of the remaining too-close-to-call races. GOP is ahead in eight of the too close to call races.
AZ-6: WaPo says GOP favored to win
OR-5: DEM slightly favored
OR-6: DEM slightly favored
AK-1: Toss-up because of ranked choice voting. Peltola needs 2.7 points in last 20% of votes to reach minimum 50%, otherwise she is likely to lose in ranked-choice second-pick.

NV-1: DEM leading, but no pick by WaPo
NV-2: DEM leading, but no pick
NV-3: DEM leading, but no pick
CO-8: DEM leading, but no pick
NM-2: DEM leading, DEM slightly favored to win
NY-22: GOP leading, no pick with 97% counted. This is a crushing result for DEM's, where Biden was +18
I think you're wrong about AK. The top three are the same from the primary. In the primary it was Peltola 40%, Palin 31%, Begich 29% after the first round. The latter two are Repubs. But Peltola got more than a third of Begich's vote in the final ranking. In the general it's Peltola 47%, Palin 26%, Begich 24% so far. Peltola would have to get far fewer now from Begich to win.
There is a decent chance that DEMs will control House, Senate, and President. And if DEMs retain the House because of absentee votes overcoming the election day voters, the cries of "rigged" will be loud and long.
With about 91% of votes counted, incumbent US Senator Cortez Masto (D-NV) is 9k votes behind challenger Adam Laxalt - which is narrower than 1 percentage point.
A day ago, Adam Laxalt was a bit cocky about his chances. While Cortez Masto is still down, she is a slight favorite to win due to remaining tallies being mail-ins.

Agreed. I couldn't have told you it was a del Toro film until this morning when I looked it up on IMDB...Sorvino plays an entomologist that drew acclaim for her work with disease spreading cockroaches in NYC and gets roped into helping with a new problem...that problem turns out to be 8 ft tall killer bugs that mimic people...
Definitely not a threat for the top-10 of the AFI list, but again, not the worst film ever...and a kind of interesting premise. It might have done better had they set it in a rural Swedish village and cast Florence Pugh in the lead....

LOS ANGELES – California volleyball (7-18, 0-15 Pac-12) posted another five-set thriller on Thursday night, taking on UCLA (14-10, 8-7) in a rematch at Pauley Pavilion that quickly proved an entirely different narrative than that of the last matchup between the Bears and the Bruins two weeks ago.
Junior Lydia Grote finished the evening with a career-high 28 kills - the best offensive performance by a Golden Bear in recent history - while sophomore Annalea Maeder posted her own career high in service aces (4) and added 51 assists and 10 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Senior Sydney Lilomaiava tied her career best of 6 blocks, just one less than match leader Sophie Scott's 7, as junior Tara DeSa totaled a match-leading 20 digs.

Cal (0-1) is coming off a season-opening loss to UC Davis on Monday while K-State (1-0) defeated UTRGV for its first win under first-year head coach Jerome Tang.
BERKELEY – The California women's basketball team faces a tough test right out the gate as it gets ready to take on No. 9 Notre Dame this Saturday in the Inaugural Citi Shamrock Classic on NBC in St. Louis. The game marks the first ever live broadcast of a college women's basketball game for the network and will be a homecoming for Cal head coach Charmin Smith who grew up in St. Louis and played high school ball at Ladue Horton Watkins High School.
Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT. In addition to being broadcast on NBC, the game will stream on Peacock.
BERKELEY – California's men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the NCAA West Regional Championships on Friday.

BERKELEY – The Cal women's and men's diving teams take the stage this weekend when two Golden Bears will travel to Southern California for the annual Trojan Diving Invitational hosted by USC Friday through Sunday at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
From the women's side, the Bears will send sophomore Danielle Killeen. Representing the men will be freshman Joshua Thai.
Fans can follow live results by clicking here. All three days begin at 11:00 a.m.
Killeen is making her second appearance this season after competing in the 1-meter and 3-meter championship against Utah on Oct. 12. In that event she placed fifth in both events with a score of 192.90 in the 1-meter dive and 217.70 in the 3-meter dive.
Cal has eight former players that finished their collegiate careers with the Golden Bears who are currently on active rosters of NFL teams that are in playoff positions just past the halfway mark of the 2022 campaign. It's bad when Cal's MBB team can't even get on the Sicko Committee's top 25 after a loss to UC Davis. I guess it is what it is when everyone expects you to suck. 🔥🦊
I listened to ESPN's E60 "The Band is on the Field". It's not worth your time. It is a piece of Stanfurd propaganda. They also got one part wrong. They talk about Coach Kapp playing "grab-ass". I went to Cal football camps for years under Kapp and I can confirm that he called it "grab-AHZ"
The Lobsterbacks have some sort of in at ESPN as they have a lot of coverage of their team even when they totally suck, which would be understandable if they were a team like Texas or ND with a huge fan base, but obviously they are not that…
