An activist describes her experience at a royal British event that isn't that much different than what minorities deal with every single day/week/month (depending on where you live).
A right-wing British commentator tries to stand up for Lady Hussey with mixed results:
"I‘ve known Lady (Susan) Hussey since I was 18. She is a decent woman and certainly not a racist. She often asked my mother where she was from because she had a Central European accent. I am sometimes mistaken for non British because of my colouring. I’m never offended."
I've had sinus congestion and a sore throat for four days, tested negative for Covid 3x and my wife, who started feeling sick yesterday, tested negative with her work's PCR test, so it may just be a cold.
internally - high cholesterol (150 LDL) and might need to go on meds since there is some family history also.
the current plan-of-action is to be hyper-careful about diet for 2-3 months and see if i can get LDL < 100.
also, there is the high carb part of my diet, pasta and alcohol that could be tweaked. it was a lot easier to overlook that stuff when i was riding my bike ~100 mi/wk.
right there with you, though I went ahead on the meds. and have added biking 40-ish miles a week, and have been a bit better about diet lately (and lost 15 lbs in 2 months.)
Finally feeling near normal. Thanksgiving night I was up virtually all night coughing and sneezing. Two days earlier I got the bivalent booster and I don't know if it was a reaction to that or just a really bad cold. I spent the entire weekend around the house and had some aches, chills, loss of appetite, but no fever. Am now slowly feeling close to normal.

The idea that I'll hobble around in pain for the rest of my life is a gut-punch, something that I'm not willing to accept yet.

BERKELEY – California will open Pac-12 Conference play on Wednesday night when it hosts USC at Haas Pavilion. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT and the conference contest will be televised on the Pac-12 Network with Roxy Bernstein and Bill Walton on the call.
The Golden Bears (0-7) are back home after two games played at the Emerald Coast Classic in Niceville, Florida, where they fell short against TCU and Clemson. Wednesday's clash with the Trojans (4-3) is the first of two early Pac-12 games for Cal this week, including a road contest at No. 4 Arizona on Sunday, Dec. 4.
It was third and a long 2 for USC at the Cal 42-yard line in the season finale last December at FTX Field At California Memorial Stadium. The Bears were leading 10-7 with 4:06 to go in the second quarter when Trojan quarterback Jaxson Dart handed the ball off to running back Darwin Barlow.
Barlow hit a hole in the line, but was soon met by a form tackle and a helmet on the ball from Cal safety Elijah Hicks. The ball popped out of Barlow's grasp and bounced along the turf toward linebacker Trey Paster, who scooped it up and scampered 55 yards down the sideline for a touchdown. That gave the Bears a 10-point lead on the way to a 24-14 win over their rivals to the south.
BERKELEY - This weekend shapes up to be a fun two days of women's college basketball as Cal will be hosting the 2nd Annual Raising The B.A.R. Invitational. What was previously known as the Cal Classic, an annual tournament that started in 1978, was re-branded by Cal head coach Charmin Smith to the Raising The B.A.R. Invitational in order to is to elevate the voices, stories and people in the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging space. The purpose of the event is to shine a light on the fact that Black female coaches are a highly underrepresented group among women's DI college basketball programs (Black student-athletes made up 40.7 percent of the total playing population yet Black women coaches made up only 18.5 percent of women's DI basketball coaches in the 2020-21 season*) and put on an event that highlights them. The goal is to make this the marquee annual event that teams want to participate in and that celebrates the achievement of Black female coaches in the sport. The three other teams that are invited to participate every year are all led by Black female head coaches.
BERKELEY – The No. 2 California men's swimming & diving team returns to the pool this week when the Bears travel to the Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center for the annual Minnesota Invite, hosted by the University of Minnesota Recreation and Wellness, Nov. 30-Dec. 3.
Traditionally one of the top events in the season, the Bears will face stiff competition. Also competing are No. 1 Texas, No. 21 Wisconsin, No. 24 Minnesota, No. 25 Arizona. Rounding out the competition is Harvard, receiving votes in the latest CSCAA poll, Pitt, and UNLV.
The No. 14 Cal women's swimming & diving team will face some fast competition this week at the Minnesota Invitational at the Jean K Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
Always one of the top events of the college season, this year's field includes three nationally ranked teams with the Bears, No. 1 Texas and No. 13 Wisconsin. Minnesota is the second team listed as "also receiving votes" in the latest CSCAA poll.
Three Cal student-athletes earned All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday. Sophomore Ayo Oke was named to the All-Pacific Region First Team while fifth-year Sydney Collins and senior Keely Roy were named to the All-Pacific Region Second Team.
Oke, a defender from Lawrencevile, Ga., earned her first All-Region honor. Oke was also named to the 2022 All-Pac-12 Second Team, the second conference postseason honor of her career after being named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team in 2021. Oke wrote herself into the Cal record books this season, tying for second place on the single-season assists leaderboard with nine. She led the conference in assists and ranked 22nd nationally.
BERKELEY – Two-time California women's tennis All-American Haley Giavara and head coach Amanda Augustus were named to the U.S. team that will play in the 15th edition of the Master'U BNP Paribas Championships – an international university competition – in Honfleur, France, the ITA announced Tuesday. The eight-team tournament – including the defending champion United States – runs Friday through Sunday at the Normandie Tennis League's Centre de Tennis.
This marks Giavara's first foray into the event, previously an annual tournament that didn't take place the previous two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cal senior hopes to join Golden Bear alumna Maegan Manasse – who was on the U.S. team in 2015 – among the ranks of Master'U BNP Paribas champions.
