Bob Dylan's 115th Dream - one of my all time favorites

I was riding on the Mayflower

When I thought I spied some land

I yelled for Captain Arab, I have you understand

Who came a-running to the deck

Said, "Boys, forget the whale

Where goin' over yonder, cut the engines, change the sails"

"Haul on the bowline", we sang that melody

Like all tough sailors do

When they are far away at sea

I have a generic #1 yellow Cal FB jersey I found at TJ Maxx for $29. I have a Cheechoo alt black Sharks jersey I got off ebay. I should've gotten one of the special Kershaw WS jerseys in 2021. I used to have a Kidd jersey but I gave it to No 1 since it got to be too small.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i have a Cal jersey that HAG got me for some bday occasion. it is personalized and says Amit on the back. #20.

i always wear it for any games we attend in person and during the Big Game, etc.

I've hooked up with an inordinate number of women from the state of New Jersey...for a West Coast kid, that seems a strange outlier.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

there is a turnpike rest stop gas station at the halfway point of the Garden State Parkway dedicated to Bon Jovi. there is a sign saying you are "halfway there"!!

Wow! I did not see that coming...

Side note: I want him to have a kid who marries Rick Santorum's kid so their kids' last names would be Santos-Santorum

Fire Starkey's avatar

is that sarcasm? This has been coming for months

Matt's avatar

No, I'm genuinely surprised! GOP leadership has been signaling that they would support him and I didn't see more than half of R's (including leadership) pick this time to grow a spine and put their razor-thin majority at risk.

Peetyjay's avatar

I guess even members of the GOP are smart enough to realize the stench is bad enough that you can assume a rotten corpse without needing to see the damn body.

Fire Starkey's avatar

ah, that was the case a while ago but the official congressional report was published and was even more damning than expected. Georgie is going to jail for a very very long time

Peetyjay's avatar

Waiting for the report was the most prudent action to take for such a serious act such as expelling a member. I don't fault the holdout GOP members, but now that the report has arrived, waiting for an actual conviction would have been indefensible.

Matt's avatar

I feel like even after the congressional report came out GOP leadership was clinging to the "due process" talking point like a drunk to a lamppost (simile stolen from George F. Will).

Dallas and Seattle have a back and forth game. Cowboys turned the last three Seahawks possessions -which were all failed 4th down conversions near midfield - into 10 points to come from behind and win 41-35

https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/gameId/401547566

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Dallas is such a clear cut below Philly and the Niners.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

I can't believe it, but I found myself rooting for Geno Smith and team.

The refs made some ridiculous calls that felt like J.R. Ewing was influencing the outcome.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Clete Blakeman and his crew are by far one of the worst group of officials in the NFL. They throw flags, and then discuss the infraction in an official's circle-jerk - it's as if they don't even know the F-ing rules. Every week this crew is picking up multiple flags, even though they usually WERE legit penalties. What a joke.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

I saw two flags down that ended up being "no fouls." Yes, like it was an officiating clinic.

FiatSlug's avatar

Dallas was putting good pressure on Smith. So, going for it on 4th down didn't make much sense in that context. Punting would have been the better choice. It's likely Seattle would have won the game had they punted on 4th down in the 2nd half.

DJ Uiagalelei in the portal. I can only imagine that there may be a subset of college QBs who are really good at the college level, but not locks to be drafted high enough let alone stick with a team - and so will play college as long as possible now that NIL is a thing.

Now that we are in December, does anyone else get depressed during the holidays? I'm not sure what I have is just seasonal depression. I specifically get down over feeling as though I accomplished only a small percentage of what I wanted to accomplish at work during the year, and I also get a bit of sadness of knowing that break we get during the holidays will be over before I want it to be.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i get ups and downs of motivation and sadness but on different time scales that are not connected to Mondays or the New Year, but i am always curious about it.

i guess it is somewhat prevalent because enough people have the same reaction and maybe that makes a difference?

i also think that there is a huge weight of expectations placed on the holidays in particular ..

Wiata78's avatar

For things like that, I have found that there are therapists who are well worth their fees. YMMV. Good luck.

Peetyjay's avatar

Definitely feel it after the New Year. That long stretch where the hype of holidays, family, friends, and cheer, is all but dissipated. I propose that Christmas be rescheduled to January 25th each year to shorten that long period of post-holiday winter.
