Pro-tip: On the front page if you hit the "Archive" tab at the top center, you can get all stories in chronological order. So if there's anything that seems to be missing (like a DBD that wasn't pinned to the front page), you can usually find it there.
Went out to an Opera we had never seen before last night, and quite enjoyed it, even though it was so short it didn't even have an intermission! Only a total of 90 minutes - which is generally not an Opera at all.
Orpheus and Eurydice (Greek myth) had the simplest, and fewest characters in a performance we had ever seen - but it was quite compelling - and beautiful.
I wasn't expecting to be so underwhelmed. So much of what makes Indiana Jones fun is the tactile look of the practical effects; while this one doesn't look quite as bad as the Forbidden Fourth, it still looks rather overproduced.
Man, I thought Crystal Skull was the action movie equivalent of the Cal offense under Wilcox…when I read your post, buddy, I immediately thought Cowboys and Aliens II..but that preview looks pretty cool…cautiously optimistic.
I usually bump it to the front page in the morning, but I was spending 90 minutes commuting to our main office outside DC the last two mornings so I was unable to do the needful. This morning my commute consisted of going downstairs, just how I like it.
Yeah, I really didn’t realize how badly I needed to get out of the house for my mentals until I started going in 3x a week. That said commuting into SF blows, am considering maybe starting to work out of our SV office as my house is basically equidistant between the two but for SV it is a straight shot on the highway. Downside is you are in a rando office park instead of in a fun city.
On the rare occasion that I go to the office (the local one, not the DC one where I've been maybe 3 times in the last 5 years), I'm usually on site for a few hours mid-morning or early afternoon. It's already an easy commute, but it's made so much better when I'm not driving in the morning/evening rush.
That said, I'm perfectly fine working from home indefinitely.
I'm slowly extracting myself from the dreary project that I've been on for 5 years (!) but the new project is remote only, even the feds, so it's actually a step backward - the FDA office is a 15 minute drive from the house, so I could have at least gone in there occasionally for a change of pace
Korea! So cool. When I was teaching there it was right after the WC in 02 and soccer had kind of recently supplanted baseball as the favorite sport. I imagine soccer must be far and away the number one sport there by now
If they had played for the entire group stage the way that they played for the last 30 minutes against Croatia, they might have done better. Also I have never seen a one-game run of atrocious luck like Lukaku had yesterday (not even when he was playing for Everton)
I've seen too many photos from the angle floating around. Why do they keep showing that? To make it a controversy? The only angle you should look at is from the above, yet all the media outlets showing the angled photos.
Kevin McCarthy continues to be written off as the next Speaker of the House. If McCarthy is elected, he will have a tenure not unlike John Boehner and Pual Ryan: inhibited by a fractious GOP caucus.
There have been hints from some GOP reps that a non-member of the House will be elected Speaker. Just yesterday, US Rep Ralph Norman (R-SC) hinted that there would be a candidate who is not a current House member. Norman said that the candidate would become apparent in the next few weeks.
Usually, people automatically think of TFG as the likely candidate. I think that there's someone who would probably be more effective but may be enjoying retirement a bit too much to take up the mantle of leadership - Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich could actually do some damage. The question in my mind, is would he want the challenge? He's been Speaker before. He might not want to try his hand again. Or maybe he might. He does have a website and he appears in televised interviews from time to time.
11th US Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously (two of three are Trump appointees) reserve Judge Cannon's order for a Special Master to slow down evidence to the DOJ. The matter can still be brought to SCOTUS within 7 days, otherwise the DOJ will get the 900 or so documents being held up.
Newellbany and I do baseball trips…even hit up Globe Life Field on the TCU trip with hag, HSB, and our stunningly underwhelming friend from high school, Jockface.
We’re all caught up on the 30 current ball fields, so really not sure what the next one will be…probably the A’s, somewhere…
I have started crossing US National Parks off the list, actually. I may also start doing iconic sports venues…like I’ve been to Churchill Downs, Madison Square Garden…Lambeau is on the bucket list…maybe that’s what I do…not sure.
Idea for a WFC poll: Name the next pyramid scheme disguised as an actual business that Cal will sign a field naming (or merchandising) deal with that will collapse before the last of the checks bounce.
Question: does tonight’s Pac 12 Championship game have any bearing on Mark Fox’s employment status? SC win = CFP = millions of $’s for each member school…
Probably the Sally Tessio move….get in the portal ASAP and get first crack at some possibilities. Maybe he already has an idea.
Wasn’t that impressed with him v Cal….Rees’ play calling was actually more impressive, the tongue-lashing on national tv notwithstanding. But Rees ran f-ing circles around idiot Musgrave, though Newellbany’s precocious 12-year old would, too.
Dillingham will still have his hands all over that ASU O, unlike in Berkeley, where Baldwin had free reign, within the conservative constraints of Wilcox’s style …
Early I know, but with the transfer portal and 8 (f-ing 8!!!) home games, I look for ASU to make a run at 6-6 and a berth in the…Sun Bowl.
I fear that El Paso over the new year holiday will remain as elusive as Pasadena ever was, at least so long as Wilcox is around.
In a bit of a surprise, Chance Nolan enters the portal as a RS Junior. IMHO, this is positive for the Bears as I thought Nolan was better than Gulbranson
Oregon St was 6-1 with Gulbranson, though he was more of a game manager, and the 4 worst teams in the P12 (Colorado, Stanford, ASU and Cal) were amongst those wins. Smith wins in the trenches and with Martinez, though, so the QB didn’t have to do much.
Here is a list of players who have completed their fifth year of football. Their redshirt plus 2020 mulligan year means that they theoretically have one more year of automatic eligibility left:

I can now stop re-reading about second TV's.

New Indiana Jones trailer. So aliens (as far as I can tell) so I'm excited. I thought the 4th movie was really good for the first half.

Not to mention the abundance of nostalgiabait.
4th movie? I thought was terrible!
Like I said, I thought the first half was good. Good action. Then the aliens showed up and it all went downhill.
Man, I thought Crystal Skull was the action movie equivalent of the Cal offense under Wilcox…when I read your post, buddy, I immediately thought Cowboys and Aliens II..but that preview looks pretty cool…cautiously optimistic.

The war on Christmas will continue until morale on W4C improves.
As it should be.
I usually bump it to the front page in the morning, but I was spending 90 minutes commuting to our main office outside DC the last two mornings so I was unable to do the needful. This morning my commute consisted of going downstairs, just how I like it.
I'm torn between not having any interest in commuting and my increasing concern that I am going to lose my mind if I keep working in the guest room.
Yeah, I really didn’t realize how badly I needed to get out of the house for my mentals until I started going in 3x a week. That said commuting into SF blows, am considering maybe starting to work out of our SV office as my house is basically equidistant between the two but for SV it is a straight shot on the highway. Same! I went in three times this week and felt a big (positive) psychological impact.
Thankfully my commute is not that long: 30-40 minutes on public transit.
I commuted into SF for seven-and-half-years. Now I teach at a school that is a fifteen minute walk from home. Bliss.

WORLD CUP
Serbia vs Switzerland
I thought perhaps this might be the ruffians stealing milk money from the posh boys, but well done Switzerland for winning it.
Cameroon vs Brazil
Glorious late goal for Cameroon to beat Brazil, even if they didn't make it to the next round.
Korea vs Portugal
Portugal up 1-0 early. Korea's slim hopes of advancing to the knockout stage are looking grim.
Tied 1-1!
Gooooooooool!!!!
Korea! So cool. When I was teaching there it was right after the WC in 02 and soccer had kind of recently supplanted baseball as the favorite sport. I imagine soccer must be far and away the number one sport there by now

I doubt it is Gingrich. Maybe Meadows?
Gingrich? I really doubt that.

Must be transferring to get away from his verbally abusive OC Tommy Rees.
