My boss just asked if I would like to go back into the office more often, and I said: Hmm yes. But I don’t want to take slots from people whose work can’t easily be done from bed, like my work.
They had the best program back when his offense was innovative...now that O is trendy, with everyone and their mother running it. Well, everyone but Wilcox, of course.
Kinda like some SC douchebag who just tweeted that John Robinson’s 2nd SC go-round was an “unmitigated disaster”.... they won a Rose, Cotton & Freedom bowl...ya, what a disappointment.
While it is possible to build tall buildings in the bay margin muds, it is not easy or cheap to do in such a way that they don't have these sorts of settlement problems.
I wonder what the markdown is, now. At some point, especially given the ridiculousness of the SF real estate market, I can imagine people saying sure, I'll assume that risk to live in a luxury condo that I couldn't otherwise afford.
Unit 10H, a 666 square foot 1bd/1ba, originally sold in 2011 for $560K and is currently pending sale for $675K, with a $1502/month HOA.
Unit 303, a 1bd/2ba 1295 square foot unit, originally sold for $1.295MM in 2011 and is now pending at $1.395MM. Its HOA is an eye watering $2,725/month.
Unit 42D is currently listed for $3.0MM (3/3, 1952 sf) and has been on the market for over year with just a single $100K price drop. Let's keep an eye on that one.
Doorman, concierge, valet parking, wine storage room, 20,000 sf gym, pool, screening room, residents cocktail lounge, a pretty great outdoor party terrace -- it was an exceptional building when it was built. The whole tilting thing kinds of kills the buzz though.
The PR disaster caused by COVID the past 2 years has made a tough job even tougher. Plus, Knowlton's albeit limited track record in revenue sports hires at Cal leaves a lot to be desired.
Well, his coaching wins football games. He was 58-3 with a state championship coaching high school, then he went to FCS and broke records as the passing game coordinator for Eastern Washington, then he took over Sac State and is 15-1 in the Big Sky.
I recognize that winning at the high school and FCS level is not the same thing as winning at a P5 FBS program...but still, he's got a pretty darn good record. It's not like it'd be a Ted Lasso outside of the box hire.
thank you. And for reference, we can point to Notre Dame's internal promotion of Freeman. No HC experience and only has one year at the P5 level. and that's Notre Dame, one of the bluest of blue bloods in CFB. Sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle like USC did with Pete. Maybe this is the hire for ND. Maybe Troy is that for Cal. One never knows.
Yeah, the fact that just about Kelly's whole staff decided to stay at ND with Freeman says quite a bit about both those dudes. I think Kelly's departure might end up being the best thing to happen to ND.
After the PR nightmare of the latest COVID schitt-show surrounding the program, the CoB and the University administration, pretty sure the entire football coaching community is well aware of the challenges at Berkeley.
But the Chancellor's email she just sent to all donors had our glorious victory over USC mentioned as the the first item. Wilcox getting some love from the administration.
It’s easy to throw a quick mention into a mass f-ing email. Let me know when the Athletic Program starts getting tangible support from the City or University.
Don't really know much about Mr. Anderson, so not commenting about him.
But the observation about school ties is dead on. Don James didn't have school ties to UW and yet he is revered by the Huskies fans as the Dawg Father.
BTW, I looked it up - Don James played his college ball at Miami (FL) as a QB and DB; he came to UW (1975) from Kent State (1971-1974). Prior to Kent State, he coached at -
Florida State (DBs, '59-'61; DC, from '62 to '65),
Michigan (DBs, '66-'67), and
Colorado (DC, '68-'70)
Bruce Snyder came to Cal from the LA Rams, Snyder played his college ball at Oregon and he was a head coach at Utah State for 7 years before Dave Maggard hired him in December '86.
The timing isn't right, and probably won't be for at least a couple years, but he's talked positively about it being the job that could convince him to jump down to the college ranks.
U of Florida faculty issued a report that alleged that DeSantis' office pressured them to delete Covid data that was not supportive of DeSantis. They were also told to not talk ill of him.
For some reason, Biden administration nominated GOP's Meg Whitman to be ambassador to Kenya. Perhaps it's a reward for anti-Trump stance. Perhaps it's punishment by having to live in Nairobi. Perhaps it was the $500k donation, which is how these types of things work.
Liz Cheney says Jan. 6 investigation has won a victory in the courts requiring Trump documents to be released relating to the event. Meanwhile Trump is doing his best to hide his activities, delay, and obfuscate. Apparently he will be subpoenaed and forced to appear. Doubt he will show up, though.
GOP candidate for GA lt. governorship wants to eliminate state income taxes by either changing sales tax to be 17% (gee, I wonder where people would shop) or eliminate K-12 public education.

I used to marvel at folks who announced a huge gift of money to a charity of some sort, where someone who was not well off was granted some sort of gift or sudden ability to see what their life or the life of others could be with a "transformational" gift. Not anymore.
I have a decidedly jaundiced view of such gifts now, especially when the benefactor's name is plastered all over the news or at the top of a press release. Really, *why* is it important that Mr. Jones makes damn sure that readers know that *he*, Mr. Jones, gave some freakish sum of money for a cause or an effort that few people have heard of or know exists?
Billionaires now make the argument that their charity gifts should forever more exempt them from paying income taxes. Why? Because there's no glory in doing your civic duty by doing what a commoner does every April 15th!
It isn't money that's filthy, folks. It's our relationship to money that's filthy.
It's a funny little indicator of the socio-economic diversity among the CGB/WFC communities of past and present, which is probably equivalent to the diversity at Cal. Being a 1st generation college student and not coming from wealth, and being the stereotypical broke college kid, one of my memorable experiences was consoling a new Cal friend over the fact that her Chevron exec dad has decided that her brother will inherit the family share of a large sacred land trust that can only be bequeathed to one descendant. (This horrific news coming maybe a day after I pawned my guitar to buy food.. different story though).
haha I never did get it back. it was a Washburn acoustic i'd spent ~$300 a year or two before and pawned it for $20. and to provide context, this was 20 years ago, ha. even looking back now im ashamed i didnt just sell it on craigslist for more, but a brotha was hungry. I remember walking to the Jack in the Box next to the pawn shop and ravaging a jumbo jack immediately after the dirty deal. This was after I'd expended my funds buying white rice from Walgreens. I wasnt a very bright kid. (spending most of my dough at the bars)
i think he has done pretty well for himself in IT consulting world. he never finished his Cal degree in the early-90s, went off to work for many years, and then came back a couple years ago to finish.
It's not necessarily money that exists yet (though it very well may be). It looks to be a gift that will come from his will. Could be from money he already has, but could be from planned growth, an insurance policy or any number of other ways.
He may actually make it in the league do his size and speed. I thought he was just a possession receiver but on those long TD catches he showed some wheels.

Based on a majority of the tweets, neither UC coach would be a popular hire.....
What's wrong with Kelly? They had the best program under him.
They had the best program back when his offense was innovative...now that O is trendy, with everyone and their mother running it. Well, everyone but Wilcox, of course.

"Rain" twice in one week in LA and an actual storm on the horizon for next week.
I got snow outside my window. If I wasn't quarantined, I'd be skiing again this weekend.
how are you feeling?
Cold in W4C Mid-Atlantic. 40s and 30s for much of the month so far, but we're hitting 70s on Saturday and 50s/60s next week.
It hasn't been too bad. Haven't had to wear tights on a run yet so far. That's my threshold, though I'm good to the mid 30s in shorts.

It may be ridiculous, but there is not a chance I'd go in that building. I'm sure it's within tolerances, but NO.
I wonder what the markdown is, now. At some point, especially given the ridiculousness of the SF real estate market, I can imagine people saying sure, I'll assume that risk to live in a luxury condo that I couldn't otherwise afford.
Not a whole lot.
Unit 10H, a 666 square foot 1bd/1ba, originally sold in 2011 for $560K and is currently pending sale for $675K, with a $1502/month HOA.

Which one are we crowdfunding for DBD Party Condo?
I betcha those HOA fees are at least partially, if not mostly, funding the engineering fix. Holy forkballs.
$2,725 monthly HOA?!?! What amenities does that building have? Do you get a parking space in the building with that?
Doorman, concierge, valet parking, wine storage room, 20,000 sf gym, pool, screening room, residents cocktail lounge, a pretty great outdoor party terrace -- it was an exceptional building when it was built. The whole tilting thing kinds of kills the buzz though.
A $2725 monthly HOA better come with either some sort of snow removal or happy ending. That’s patently absurd.
It's more than my monthly mortgage payment. I'm trying not to say anything crass about what amenities ought to come at that price.
Iron Man suit and suite or GTFO
It would be wise to put a small portion of the savings into a decent life insurance plan
I think Joe Montana already moved out.
This seems suboptimal
Well stated understatement.
Who do you want as Cal's coach if/when Oregon hires Justin Wilcox?
Make a case for Wilcox to Oregon that doesn’t include his ties to Oregon.
There is no case.
pltm
Kellen Moore
Gary Patterson, not that he'd ever leave the state of Texas.
Mike Houston, not that he'd ever leave Best Carolina
The PR disaster caused by COVID the past 2 years has made a tough job even tougher. Plus, Knowlton's albeit limited track record in revenue sports hires at Cal leaves a lot to be desired.
It may actually be Troy Taylor time.....
make a case for Troy that doesn't include his ties to Cal.
Well, his coaching wins football games. He was 58-3 with a state championship coaching high school, then he went to FCS and broke records as the passing game coordinator for Eastern Washington, then he took over Sac State and is 15-1 in the Big Sky.

That's a pretty good case, tho I do hope Wilcox stays, too. Continuity, booby!!!

Yeah, the fact that just about Kelly's whole staff decided to stay at ND with Freeman says quite a bit about both those dudes. I think Kelly's departure might end up being the best thing to happen to ND.
He won't be poached by a big name program?
Those big name programs don't have GB49 pushing for TT.
They might have their version of GB49 in the fanbase
GB49 probably has Troy Taylor's wiki page framed on his bedroom wall.
Bob loves him
Gerald Alexander. Beast Mode as OC
Blake Anderson. I don't understand the obsession with Cal fans needing it to be someone who has school ties.
My only thought with that is hoping the incoming coach recognizes the administrative…challenges…that come along with the Cal job
I think so. It's the concern that someone without Cal ties may just not be able to fully understand the problem.
I just don't know many coaches to begin with, and don't have any favorite, so i can only come up with guys who has ties to Cal
Good choice. I loved him in Workaholics

Ron Rivera
Seems unlikely as he already has a big time head coaching job.
oh, has he left the Washington Football Team?
Nope, and like last year they have a losing record but seem they may be headed for the playoffs.
The timing isn't right, and probably won't be for at least a couple years, but he's talked positively about it being the job that could convince him to jump down to the college ranks.
