apparently this has been going on for a while, the issue is that Loudoun county theoretically provided an easement in 1871 there's no proper record of same; the owners of the farm on the VA side previously had some kind of lease agreement but now want to either get a lot more in lease payments (apparently based on gross revenues not net) or take over the entire operation. The current owners aren't having it.

Using a more "standard" definition for terrorism in reference to CONUS violence would mean doing things like admitting that the anti-abortion movement in the 80s & 90s suborned domestic terrorism, or accepting the possibility that self-appointed militias look an awful lot like aspiring versions of what we'd call paramilitaries in other countries.

As for Nashville, an announcement and then a badly damaged business area from a bomb rang more than a few bells from my childhood in the "golden era" of Euro terrorism.

This (I think) is maybe his last season with the Rams. The system where McVay calls the plays doesn't seem to be working. Goff may benefit from a change of scenery.

Expand full comment
sycasey's avatar

I'm not sure Goff is going to get a better situation than McVay's offense with a good defense backing them up.

Expand full comment
g.oso's avatar

from the very limited viewing of his career and current teammates, he needs better skill players around him.

Expand full comment
sycasey's avatar

Hmm? The Rams have had pretty good skill players for most of his time there.

Expand full comment
chowder's avatar

I disagree. When you can't run the ball in from the one on four attempts, your Oline isn't good enough. Henderson should never be able to be caught from behind by the weakside DE. Woods and Kupp are great route-runners, but they lack the top-end speed to push the DB's deeper. They miss a Cooks or Watkins that can go deep.

Expand full comment
sycasey's avatar

I would not include the OL as "skill players." Usually that term means backs & receivers. The OL has been an issue for them, especially last season with all the injuries.

Expand full comment
GoldenSD81's avatar

I agree with all this. The Rams have two great number two WRs but they don’t have a true number 1 WR or a deep threat.

Also, the Rams OL has been average to slightly above average when healthy.

The Rams needs to draft a WR and OL but they have traded away so many of their draft picks over the last few years.

Expand full comment
g.oso's avatar

Like I said, this was the first game ever that i watched. Was not impressed by the skill payers around him or maybe Goff is much worse than i thought

Expand full comment
sycasey's avatar

Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods are definitely a solid top 2 WRs. Tyler Higbee also a good TE.

If there's a problem with personnel it's more that the OL hasn't been great, especially when they get hit with injuries.

Expand full comment
g.oso's avatar

solid but not game breaking

Expand full comment
sycasey's avatar

True, but the very best QBs can easily make do with that kind of skill position talent. Aaron Rodgers does way more with less. This just shows that Goff is hovering around average for an NFL QB, not approaching elite.

Expand full comment
CruzinBears's avatar

Having one of the best LTs out has certainly been an issue

Expand full comment
CruzinBears's avatar

He looks a lot better when Cam Akers is ripping off 10-20yd runs. But it did look like his throwing hand was injured. Lots of balls were wobbly or throw low/behind. But that interception was just plain old bad, no idea what he was trying to do with that. He also seems to be super hesitant to run for a couple yards when the bootleg leads to no open receivers.

Expand full comment
chowder's avatar

Aikman was annoying the hell out of me, by constantly saying Goff should be picking up 10 yards off the scrambles, but everytime he said that, I'd look at the replay and there was a defender that would have leveled him a yard past the line of scrimmage. I have no idea what Aikman was seeing, but I saw something completely different.

Expand full comment
CruzinBears's avatar

Yeah I think he was adding 5+ yards to those imaginary scrambles. But getting 1-3yds instead of a pick or almost pick would have been preferred. Also I've never been hit by an NFL defender, so what do I know about self-preservation on the field.

Expand full comment
GoldenSD81's avatar

I don’t think they will cut or trade him after this season but next year will be his final chance to prove he is the future QB for the Rams.

I think the real puzzler was sliding down untouched, short of the first down in around their own 40 in the 4th Q...Jared has to have better situational awareness there, especially with no LB really putting heat on.
